Chapter 30- Meeting King Dorian
Clay POV
“King Dorian?” I heard Gracie as she stepped up in front of me. At first, I was not sure if it was her or not. Her voice oozed confidence and authority. I felt as if Lilliana had taken control of the situation of hand.
I did not love how we came to see not a human form king dragon but the dragon himself. He was the largest dragon I could ever imagine. I had not thought them to be small but this one was at least 7 stories if next to a building. He was bright red with a blue stripe down his back. I was thankful that he did not breathe out fire as he spoke as some of the legends, we read said they did.
“I am.” Was all the king said. Gracie and I both bowed to be respectful to the king.
“King Dorian, I am here simply to speak with you about the dark witches. There is something we need from you in order to defeat them.”
“So that is what brings you here my little wolf.” Dorian said, his whole being made the room shake as he spoke. I was unsure if this was some scare tactic for us to see his size or if he just always hung around in his home as a dragon.
“Yes, King Dorian. We need something from you. The legend speaks of a,” as Gracie spoke the king seemed to begin sniffing the air. He seemed to be alerted of something. “We need a dragon scale.”
“A dragon scale you say?” The king seemed to be distracted by this bit of information.
“Yes, a dragon scale.” Gracie said more aggressively this time.
“My little wolf,” Oh how I hated that he called her that, but I could not say anything right now. I was remembering how I was not even supposed to be here, the last thing I needed to do was act the jealous mate and ruin our entire mission. “What kind of scale do you need?”
“Yours, my king.” Gracie answered. There was no need to beat around the bush. We needed to scale to finish, let alone begin, our mission. We would hopefully be able to obtain it by kindness, but we would use force if it came to that.
“Ahh, so you need the kings dragon scale?” Again the king was sniffing the air. “I will give you my scale but you must do one thing for me.”
“What is that my king?” Gracie answered rather in an annoyed tone and I knew then it was Lilliana taking the reins on this.
“You must fight in my gladiator tournament. If you are the golden wolf you will have no problems conquering my little pets, and you will receive the scale you so desire.”
“If I lose?” Gracie asked suspiciously. The fact that she was even thinking this nonsense was insane. We would just have to take it by force. The animals we read about that participate in the gladiator competition were too much for Gracie.
“If you lose little wolf, then you must stay here until you die.” The king was again sniffing the air. He seemed a bit annoyed this time. He bellowed, “I told them you could only bring one. I see you have one, but I smell that you have more.” The entire castle shook with the sound of his command.
“My king, it is only us.” Gracie said in a clutched jaw.
King Dorian still seemed to be sniffing the air. As he sniffed, he walked around, which was not easy for a seven-story dragon. Slowly, he turned into a human form.
I watched him closely. He had long blue hair that was pulled into a ponytail that trailed behind his back. He was very tan and looked like he was made of pure muscle. I was not one to gawk at men, but someone had to acknowledge that the man looked like a carving of a magnificent statue.
“Darling Wolf, who are you hiding those smells like heaven herself? There is no way you have all wolves with you.” He walked up to Gracie and circled around her.
“My king, I am unsure of what you are speaking of.” Gracie replied. She was buying time for our group to back out of the doors. We had taken a risk that he wouldn’t smell our invisible group.
The king took one more sniff and another.
“Alright little wolf. I do not know what tricks you are playing but hopefully they will save you in these games. Take her away.” Two guards grabbed Gracie and I yelled for her holding onto her hand. The king dragon easily picked me up and swung me to the ground. My head hit the ground with a force I felt my world go black around me.
When I finally came to, I was in a dark room and strapped to a chair.
“He’s awake master.” I hear a nasal voice come from the corner of the dark room.
“Ah the mate awakes, does he?” It was the kings voice once more.
“King Dorian, what do you want with me?” I asked, suddenly his fist hit my jaw.
“I am the one questioning here.” In that moment I knew the king had quite a temper and I was not on the good end of it.
“Why do you need one of my scales?” King Dorian was holding a knife over my left top rib. Just the point was sticking me so that it felt like a paper cut.
“We are not sure. We were sent on a journey to find a bunch of different items, but we are not sure what each piece does. Almost as if putting together a puzzle without a picture.” I answered, not because he had a knife to me thought that is what he thought, but because it did not matter. The king was supposed to be on our side and his attitude was very confusing.
“What are you and the golden wolf going to do?” He questioned again digging the point of the knife deeper into me. I was unsure what to think of this guy. Either he was an asshole or he was very protective of his people.
“We are going to destroy the dark witches so that the supernatural world can live in harmony again.” He finally pushed his dagger in a bit further, I felt the hot liquid start to run down my chest.
“You do not need to torture me to get the answers you need Dorian.” I told him, “What we are doing is no secret.”
