Chapter 23
Bryan's Pov
How was I supposed to get her memory back? I asked myself, sitting in my car.
First, I had killed my fiancée and now the imposter had an accident and didn’t remember anything.
Why was everything bad happening to me?
I brought out my phone and called Stephen again. His line rang repeatedly without getting any response. I was beginning to get pissed with the whole setup, what if Jenna was just toying with my mind?
My phone rang after and I saw Stephen’s name displayed on the top side of the screen.
“Why didn’t you pick the call? I demanded angrily.
“I work in a bar Bryan to earn a living, I ain’t feasting on someone’s money like you,” he replied.
I rolled my eyes, knowing he was right.
“So what’s up?” He asked. “does she not still remember anything?”
“She doesn’t, I wonder how hard she hit her head. I just hope this isn’t a prank else it will affect my plans a lot,” I mumbled. “She seemed quite serious tho.”
“What do we do now Bryan?” He asked, his voice trailing off on the line.
“I have no idea which is why I called you, probably you can speak to your uncle, he might have a solution,” I suggested.
He laughed, a short wry laugh which left me puzzled.
“Why did you laugh Stephen? Did I say something funny?” I demanded, my face twitching in annoyance.
“Are you c*azy? Since when did my uncle become a magician who made portions for restoring memory loss? Think before you speak man,” he spoke, anger dancing at the depth of his tone.
His words suddenly made sense and I regretted ever suggesting to see his uncle for such a stupid request. He only helped with making the silicon mask, why do I think he would have a solution to a memory loss problem?
“I’m sorry,” I apologized, feeling stupid.
“It’s fine,” he declared. “Just let her be, we could use this to our advantage you know?”
“And how are we to use her memory loss to our advantage?” I asked him, confused by his statement.
“She remembered nothing, does she?” He asked.
“She doesn’t, go on,” I replied, eager to listen to what he had to say.
“Since she remembered nothing about her self or her past life, it would be easy to make her do what we want. It’s not like she knows her family or anyone else now, you are now her family— the only one she knows,” he declared with a hint of joy visible in his voice.
His words made sense in my ears and I was inclined to flow with it. But there was a problem, I had told her about the contract already.
“It wouldn’t work Stephen,” I replied, nodding my head.
“And why wouldn’t it?” He asked.
“I’ve told her about the contract and who she was,” I announced, regretting my decision earlier.
There was silence from the other side of the line for almost a minute. He was probably thinking of what to say, or so I thought. Suddenly, he cleared his throat.
“Have you told her anything else?” He asked.
“No I haven’t. I just told her her name and why she was in my house,” I replied back.
I heard him sigh and gulp, as if he was taking a drink or something.
“It’s fine then, it can still work out. Just keep an eye on her for now, people who experience memory loss are always inquisitive and would stop at nothing to find out who they were,” he advised.
Remembering how she almost left the room earlier without her mask made me agree with him. There’s no telling what would happen if she begins to snoop around and expose herself to the world.
Suddenly, the gate opened and her lawyer drove into the compound.
“Thank you Stephen, gotta go,” I bid him goodbye before hurriedly cutting the call.
The speed with which I came down from my car was intense. He was definitely here to see his Alissia and she wasn’t prepared for it.
Something dropped from my pocket the moment I closed the door and my eyes widened at the sight of it, it was Alissia’s silicon mask, which meant that Jenna’s face was visible.
The lawyer, a man in his sixties waved to me and proceeded to go into the building which alarmed me the most. If he got in and saw Jenna, he would know what I have been up to and my plans will be exposed.
In the space of a second, I was by his side, sweating like someone who just finished a marathon race.
“You can’t go in there!” I screamed, Holding his hands just as he put it on the knob to turn it, making him stare at me in wonder.
“Mr Bryan, what’s happening and why are you sweating this much?” He asked, staring at me from my head to my toes.
“Uh… uh,” I stammered, trying to cook up a suitable lie in my head. “Alissia is… uh, she is…” I cracked my head but the more I did, the more difficult it was to come up with something.
“Speak to me boy, I don’t have all day,” he spoke, getting impatient.
I opened my mouth to say something when a loud scream from within the mansion, filled the air.
In haste, we rushed in and who I saw made my knees week. Standing some distance away from us was a maid and Jenna, outside her room with her real face all visible.
The lawyer widened his eyes in disbelief as he stared at her. “Ms Alissia, what happens to your face?”
I suddenly wished the ground would swallow me or that I would disappear to a place where no one knew me. But all of that was impossible and I had to face my predicament.
“That’s what I was trying to tell you outside sir,” she had an accident and wouldn’t be able to see anyone for now due to a few changes on her physical appearance,” I chipped in, gulping a huge amount of spit down my throat.
The old man wasn’t satisfied and wanted to walk up the stairs to see for himself. This was my chance to do something, but what?
