Chapter 25

The door slammed into its frames, with dust particles falling from its side as I closed it.

If my heart had legs, it would have gone a thousand miles due to the way it raced in my chest.

My eyes scanned the lenght and breadth of the room, searching for a place to hide. There was no telling what Bryan would do if he came in and found me.

Dissapointed, I dived under the bed and held my breath, waiting for my judgement to come.

The door opened and he walked in, closing it back gently. From where I was under the bed, all I saw were his legs.

He walked toward the bed but stopped a few inches from it. The silence in the room was deafening, I was sure He was searching for me with his eyes.

“You should come out Jenna, I won’t hurt you,” he spoke, breaking the tension which stood like a wall in the room.

Was he really not going to hurt me? I wondered. Either he would or not, I wasn’t willing to find out. So I stayed hidden, waiting for him to either find me or leave the room in frustration.

My heart was in my mouth the moment he came closer and sat on the bed. He was so close to me yet but didn’t know or probably he knew but was enjoying the little game we were both playing.

“I know you are here Jenna, just come out and let’s talk,” he offered but I wasn’t willing to take the risk.

“It was my fault okay,” he began, leaving me startled. “I should have left the mask or put it back on your face before I left the room. You were no robot, of cause you can’t stay put. I’m not angry at you I just want you to come out so that I can give you the mask and take my leave.”

I wanted to come out, to trust him but a part of me didn’t believe his words. “It is just a trick,” I told myself. “Stay put.”

He must have been exhausted from waiting so he stood up from the bed, about to leave the room when the silicon mask feel from his pocket again, directly in front of me.

I froze, knowing the game I was playing was up, he would definitely see me once he bent to pick up the mask.

The air in my lungs seemed to have left and I couldn’t breathe. Shivers not only ran down my spine, it traveled around my body— around my bones.

It all felt like a scene in a movie where a bomb was about to explode and there was a count down timer.

In my case, there was no bomb, it was just my earring suddenly being enhanced, so much so, it picked up the ticking of the clock. My eyes also viewed things in slow motion as Bryan bent down to pick the mask.

Surprisingly, it was over so soon and he didn’t see me. He simply picked the mask up and threw it on the bed.

“Whenever you decide to come out, the mask is on the bed,” he sighed, walking toward the door.

My lungs were filled with air again and I no longer heard the ticking of the clock. I suddenly felt relieved and distracted from reality for a bit till I felt a strong hand grab my legs and pull me out from under the bed.

“You can run, but you can’t hide,” he growled, laughing hysterically.

“Oh no!” I exclaimed. There was no tuning away now.

He left my legs and swooped me in his arms, dropping me on the bed.

“I’m sorry Bryan, I should have just stayed in the room and not come out,” I apologized, avoiding his eyes at all possible cost.

I waited for him to scold me or do something nasty but nothing happened. Rather, he leaned in closer, trapping me in between his legs.

His eyes peered into mine and for a minute, I felt something I couldn’t explain— an abstract feeling, pass through me. I began to admire his features, from his bright pink and juicy lips to his smoothly shaped face and short beard.

I just wanted to touch it, to feel it in my hands.

“I already told you Jenna, I am not angry at you,” he whispered into my ear. His soft and gentle words danced through to my brain, making my body tremble.

I began to imagine things, crazy nasty things which he fueled by coming closer, fanning the side of my neck with his hot breath.

The scent of his cologne, strong yet thrilling hit my nostrils so hard, I could literally taste it on my tounge.

He brought his face closer to mine and my eyelids suddenly began heavy and could hardly stay open so I closed them and pouted my lips, waiting for his to land on them.

“There!” He suddenly announced, jolting me out of my fantasy. “Now you can go out without me worrying,” he spoke, standing up from the bed.

My face suddenly felt different and It made me wonder, “ what had just happened”. I had been so immersed in my imaginations that I didn’t realize his true intentions.

He only wanted to put the mask in my face. But, did he have to be so dramatic about it?

I could see a certain satisfaction in his eyes, like he derived pleasure in what he just did to me.

“I’ll be out for a while, don’t go about searching for me,” he whispered, turning towards the door.

“You can go to wherever you like, it wasn’t like I care anyway, I folded my hands on my chest and grumbled under my breath, loud enough for him to hear.

He looked back and shot me a knowing smile, one that made me angry. I suddenly remembered the man that came in earlier and decided to ask him.

“Who was that man? Is he someone I need to know? I asked, as he stopped on his tracks just when he got to the door.

“Oh,” he gasped. “The old man? He’s Alissia’s lawyer,” he replied me, frowning. I was sure it’s because he remembered what had happened earlier.

“Why was he here?” I demanded curiously. Since he was my lawyer, I wonder what he was around to do.

“Oh about that,” he began with a sly look on his face.“He came to drop some legal documents, the very ones that will transfer all of Alissia’s assets to me,” he announced, dropping the bomb.
