Chapter 33
Alissia's Pov
A jolt of energy passed through my veins like a lightning bolt— spreading to every part of my body that blood flowed to, leaving a trail of tingling sensations.
I closed my eyes as I didnt know what to expect. This woman, who was she? Why did I feel like she saw me even when every other person didn’t?
“She did saw you,” the time keeper murmured, heightening my fears as I opened my eyes.
“But how? How is that possible?” I queried, staring at his face— waiting for an answer. My thoughts had become like a pile of tangled threads, each tied together in a web of confusion.
It could be compared to a puzzle with missing pieces, all lying bare— refusing to form a meaningful picture no matter how much I arranged them.
The air thickened with tension as a deafening silence pierced through my mind like a siren in the middle of the night.
Since I was from the present and she was from the past? Who then did she see during her time in the real world?
What if she wasn’t looking at me? There was probably someone behind me, I guessed.
“There is no one behind you Alissia, it’s just us,” the time keeper stated with a straight face. “Since you doubt she had seen you which I believe she has, we might have altered something in the web of time, disrupting something in the present world.”
“And what might that be timekeeper?” I queried, my voice, a barely audible whisper as if the sudden turn out of events had stolen my vocal chords and left me mute.
He shifted his gaze from the crowd to me and registered a weird smirk on his face for a few seconds before wiping it away.
“Oh,” I whispered as it dawned on me.
In the real world, during her time, the period this scene happened, she didn’t see anything as there was no one there.
Which meant that she seeing me now had altered something in the present, but what?
I turned swiftly towards the time keeper and attempted to ask him another question when a sudden wind, one similar to that which brought us here, blew.
The next second, we were back in the restroom and he left my hands alone.
“Why did we come back?” I protested. “We should have stayed longer to know what it is that will happen to the children.”
“That is all you are permitted to know Alissia. My only wish is that you have not made this mission even more difficult,” the timekeeper sighed.
He dissapeared into thin air, leaving behind only a whisper of his presence just after he spoke those words.
The atmosphere was heavy with unease and for a while, It felt like something sucked the breath from my lungs, leaving me gasping for air.
I walked into the bedroom, hoping to find Jenna but I didn’t see her anywhere around. A quick glance at the clock showed that the time was far spent as the hour hand rested in between eleven and twelve while the minute hand sat comfortably on seven, but not for long.
It soon moved to the next minute and I gasped, realizing that it was almost midnight which meant that I had very little time to spend if I decided to enter Jenna’s body again according to the time keeper’s warning.
Where was she? My mind raced with the question. She should be sleeping— lying on her bed which lay bare, devoid of her presence.
A list of places she could be in the house popped up in my mind and I headed out to search for her. Getting to the door, I touched the knob to open it but my hands passed through it instead.
“Oh no, how do I get out now?” I questioned the heavens, looking up to the roof— my hands resting on my waist.
An idea suddenly dropped in my head. Since I tried to open the door and my hands passed through it, how about I walk through the door then, there was a ninety nine point nine percent chance that I would walk right through it.
I took three step back, panting heavily. I had never walked through a solid object so it was okay to feel nervous, right?
Summoning courage, which took its time before it heeded my call, I ran towards the door with full force. My eyes was closed and my heart was thumping harder than the foot of an athlete on a race track during a highly competitive race.
It came as a huge shock when I slammed into the door and fell down. If I were to be alive, blood would have began to rush out of my nose as it hit the door first.
A voice inside my head, soft and gentle told me that I was bleeding from my nose but since I was a spirit, I saw nothing even though it felt like it. Which meant that wherever my body was, my nose was bleeding there.
Why didn’t I pass trough the door? What could have been the problem?
I wanted to call the timekeeper again but decided against it. He was already fed up with my constant disturbance. Calling him again might just make him hate me.
Only God knows what will happen if the spirit guide assigned to me hated me, that could be the beginning of my hell on earth.
A chilly wind blew and to my greatest surprise, he was right there, is hands behind his back as before. “I know you wanted to call for me but didn’t know how to. Well I’m here now, what seems to be the problem? He asked.
I stood up from the floor and went to the door without saying a word. First, I tried to touch the door knob and my hand passed through it.
“Okay…” he nodded, observing my actions with keen eyes.
Next, I moved backwards a little and ran towards the door, gently this time. The look on his face when I couldn’t go through was a rare sight to behold.
He had his mouth wide open and his eyes were widened.
“I hope it isn’t what I think it is,” he murmured, his gaze fixed in the door.
“What is it?” I demanded.
“The consequences of interrupting with a past event, Alissia.” He declared.
