Chapter 8
“Jenna Hills, 24 years old,Light, short and slender. Grew up without a father and worked as a delivery girl at wine and dine restaurant.Currently in a contract marriage with Bryan Finn..”
The Timekeeper read from the cellphone in his hands while Alessia kept nodding, trying to master the information. They left the church already and were presently under the tree outside the church. “Done mastering it but how does her information concern me?” Alessia asked and the Timekeeper sighed. “I was just about to say that” he glared and she frowned, rolling her eyes as usual. “You’ll be using her body throughout the thirty one days journey on earth” he said and she screamed in shock. “What?!!”
“You know what? I wish I wasn't in charge of your case. You are a headache” The Timekeeper said, rubbing his temples. “How is that even possible?” she said and he sighed again. “I’m definitely going to explain that!” he yelled and she flinched, staggering backwards and surprised to see the change in his expression. “There are rules in this task” he said, heaving a deep sigh and when she tried asking a question, he held her lips tight, shutting her up.
“ Rule one: You have no right to let anyone know about the soul transmigration. Your spirit mustn't be in public, roaming around the city, outside her body by midnight and when you're inside her, you must be out of her by midnight,.Never engage in a fight with anyone with her body. Never tell any of your relatives about your death, like I said, your body is in the hands of a fisherman in a distant town…” he began, the rules were about fifteen in number and Alessia couldn't help sighing. “And if I break a rule?” she asked and once again, he held her lips. “Stop asking things I'm about to say” he warned. “If you break a rule, you'll get an additional task” he said and she voiced a ' Huh' but couldn't talk since her lips were being held.
At that instant, people began walking out from the church alongside the newly wedded couples and their eyes caught them. Alessia immediately turned to the Timekeeper, and slowly removed his hands from her lips. “Why does the bride have my face?” she wanted to ask but the Timekeeper's words didn't let her, he spoke before she could. “She's the one, the lady which you'll be using her body” His words made her gasp for the numberless time today. “What?!!” she exclaimed.
“That isn't possible. You mentioned Jenna Hills but the priest referred to her as Alessia Dion, the name you told me is mine!” she said all at once. “You have a very confusing fate. No one except this couple knows about your death and that's why you must keep it a secret from your relatives” he said.
“I don't understand, why is she with my face?” she asked again. “Because of your confusing and interwoven fate!” he replied sharply and she shook her head sideways, still so confused. “I can't even remember anything from my past life” she groaned. “That's because the heavens wiped out your memory” he said. “Your death is a mystery and should remain a secret to others, that's why you are given a second chance at life” he said further but his words didn't help in giving her answer to her questions. “If you are still confused, you'll have to find an answer to your question during your journey" he said. “This brings us to the most important rule. Just as none of your father's relatives should know about your death, the couples must be aware of your presence in their lives. Else, you'll get additional tasks and maybe lose your second chance to life” he said. “Is there an alternative solution? The soul transmigration is really hard and confusing” she said and he shook his head sideways. “No,” he said.
“Your journey begins tonight by 12PM” he said and before she could say something else, he disappeared immediately. This time, he didn't return even when she looked around and she heaved a deep sigh. She was still confused though. How could she be dead and still have someone who has the same name and characteristics as her? Her eyes suddenly caught Jenna entering the luxurious car parked amongst many others and since she has no friend nor knows anywhere, she stood up immediately and rushed to the car. After all, she'll be using her body to complete her task, she has to be around her right? Bryan moved in a different car so there was still space for Alessia to sit and without hesitation, Alessia sauntered into the car before the door was closed. She smiled satisfactorily. “Free rides are nice” she grinned, resting her back as the car began moving. Jenna suddenly turned to her and their eyes met like she had noticed her presence. Anyone who could see them both at a time will definitely conclude it's a strange scene, seeing two similar females beside each other. Alessia's eyes widened, wondering if Jenna noticed her presence.
“Can you see me?” She asked and immediately, Jenna turned back to face the front. She wasn't actually looking at Alessia as she had thought but was actually staring out of the tinted windows, watching the activities going on. The phone in Jenna's silver purse suddenly beeped, attracting Alessia's attention. Jenna took out the phone and unlocked it immediately, it was a message from ‘My prince’. Alessia had actually saved Bryan's number as ‘My prince' when she was alive but of course, she couldn't remember anything. “It's definitely her groom” Alessia soliloquised and with that, she peeped into the phone, intending to read the message.
‘Thanks for doing a good job’ Alessia read aloud but since no one could hear her, she was safe. She heard Jenna heave a deep breath and began typing a message. “Impersonating her is scary, hearing people refer to me as her makes me more scared. She's dead, what if her spirit haunts me?” Jenna typed and Alessia gasped, reading the message. “I’m being impersonated?” her eyes widened and that alone gave most of her questions an answer but though, she was still confused on how she managed to look exactly like her. She began understanding things. Only the couple knows about her death and she was being impersonated. “But, is Bryan my supposed fiance?” she asked, raising a brow. She shook her head immediately. “He's not even familiar at all,” she scoffed. She breathed heavily and looked into the phone again, intending to read more of the messages. “That only happens in movies, duh. You're safe okay? It's just for a year” Bryan's message read. Alessia's confusion increased again, she suddenly remembered that the Timekeeper had told her Jenna is in a contract marriage with Bryan. “I have to find out, if I'm his supposed bride”
