Chapter 39
Maybe because Alessia was used to wealth and classiness, for a while, she had to wonder why Jenna could have anything to do with a man like that , a mere security guard. She needed no further confirmation, he was obviously her boyfriend and she had muttered those words without realization. But… Was there a significant difference? After all, she had fallen in love with a mere chef and intended on marrying him in her past life.
“Is that really a question?” the man asked and she sighed. “I'm sorry okay, I was just out of my mind” she said and without waiting for his response, she walked into the restaurant while the man watched her backside in surprise till she was out of sight. At first, Alessia was oblivious of where to go since she was a worker and not a customer but a lady whom she had seen a few seconds ago serving a couple approached her.
“Jenna?” The lady, Rosy, chuckled , staring at her. Alessia sighed inwardly. How the hell was she going to pretend to be familiar with everyone when she doesn't even know a thing about Jenna and her colleagues?!!
“Hey..” Alessia said, itching the back of her hair nervously. “And why are you so different? You even cut your hair short” Rosy said and she pressed her lips together, racking her brain for an answer that sounds convincing enough. “Let's say I got motivated by someone's lifestyle and mode of dressing so I decided to start dressing like her too,” she said with a shrug and Rosy chuckled. “Crazy..” she mouthed… “Trust Rosy for her good compliments, I really like you this way” Rosy said, giving Alessia a clue of what name she bore and Alessia flashed a smile, muttering a simple ‘Thank you' in appreciation. “Girl, you have lots of deliveries to make today” Rosy said, pulling her towards the kitchen and Alessia almost missed a step. In sincerest speaking, she really wasn't interested in working, all she felt like focusing on was her main priority – finding her soulmate as the Timekeeper had said. All other things meant nothing but time wastage to her especially when she has limited time on earth. "Charlotte took your bike out so you have to make use of another” Rose said as they got into a room where lots of dished food were being packaged and sealed. “Who goes by the name Charlotte?” Alessia thought silently, maintaining a calm look though.
“Go change into your uniform and stop staring” One of the women in the room said. Judging from her looks and commanding tone, she was obviously a senior worker. “Oh. Okay..” Alessia stammered, itching the back of her hair. She really had no idea of where the changing room was located but she found her legs moving on their own and heading out of the room. “Where are you going? Aren't you changing here anymore?” Rosy said and Alessia's mind winced in frustration.
“I.. I want to–” she stopped talking as her eyes landed on the direction Rosy was pointing at. It was a door that obviously led to the changing room. Her eyes brightened up and immediately, she walked over to the door, entering immediately.
“Jenna Hills” she suddenly heard a familiar voice say beside her and she turned immediately. Her eyes landed on the timekeeper who was leaning on the wall with his arms folded. This time, he wasn't in a suit but in a simple black trousers and T-shirt, causing Alessia to wonder if Timekeepers could change anyhow and dress casually. “Hey, how did you get in here?” Alessia asked and he shrugged. “I can go anywhere, besides, I have a new client here” he said and Alessia's eyes widened.
“Someone is dying soon?” she asked and he shrugged, causing her to let out a loud gasp. “Keep your voice low, you can be heard remember.?” he said and she nodded slowly, taking her lower lip in.
“Could you please help me locate Jenna's uniform?” she asked, itching the side of her neck and he smirked. ”Like I was employed to do so" he smirked and she rolled her eyes and began scanning her eyes around the numerous lockers, searching for Jenna's. 'JH’ she read out a bold inscription after her search and immediately realized it was the acronym for Jenna's name. Her locker required a finger print and since it's Jenna's body she's using, she opened the locker with her thumbprint. She grabbed the uniform hung in it and turned towards the direction where the Timekeeper was earlier, intending to demand privacy but surprisingly, he wasn't there anymore. “Creepy” she whispered and quickly changed into the black uniform; a shirt and trousers.
Alessia let out a sigh, checking herself out in the mirror hung on the wall. This was her life now, from being a billionaire's daughter to being impersonated by a mere server who works with a simple black uniform. “Do you realize that it's a workplace and you need to be fast and diligent?” the Timekeeper suddenly said behind her and she turned quickly. “How did you–” she wanted to ask her usual silly question but was shocked to the core when his clothes suddenly changed into the attire she had seen him in yesterday – A white shirt on black suit and shoes.
“Oh my..” she exclaimed silently and watched his wristwatch beep loudly. “Five minutes remaining..” a voice said from nowhere and with that, he disappeared immediately. Alessia shook her head sideways at the strangeness and walked out of the room. “What took you so long?” the senior worker asked. “I'm sorry” she said without an excuse.
“Here are the packages you'll be delivering, the addresses are included on the nylon bags” the lady said, wheeling her a stroller that has lots of packaged foods in it. “Be back soon” those were the woman's last words as she left with Rosy. “Use this bike” Rosy said as they got outside the restaurant and Alessia nodded, wearing the helmet immediately while Rosy helped her fix the stroller into the bike. The man Alessia met while coming in was no longer outside and she wondered why. Suddenly, a loud crashing sound echoed in their ears and they both turned to see what was going on.
“An accident!” Alessia's eyes widened as her gaze landed on two cars that had run and collided with each other and a bike. The bike rider fell off the bike due to its collision and Alessia's eyes widened on seeing the man's spirit leaving the body, just as hers did when she died. A wave of coldness overwhelmed her and she began feeling goosebumps as the hair on her skin rose..
To her surprise, she saw the Timekeeper walking towards the man's spirit and it immediately dawned on her that he was the new client he was referring to at the changing room. Since she was a spirit, using a human body, she could clearly see other spirits and hear their voices unlike Rosy who saw nothing but the visible humans and cars that had collided with the bike.
“Mr Phillips, you lived a good life on earth but you just died, shall we ascend to the judgemental world now?” his words echoed in her ears and she gasped.. “What?!”
