Chapter 39 Sofia's Hatred: Damn Elena 1

Third Person Perspective:

Sofia couldn't stand her new sister, Elena. To her, Elena was nothing but trouble.

Ever since she got adopted by the Garcia family, Sofia had never felt so low.

She mentally scoffed at her current state. 'Look at me now, in this filthy dress with dried tears on my face. If anyone who knows me saw me, they'd think I was crazy, not Sofia Garcia.'

And now, after losing all her pride and dignity, Elena had the nerve to tell her to calm down?

Sofia felt a wave of sarcasm wash over her. 'Of course, she can act all comforting because she's used to worse. Remember how she looked when she first showed up at the Garcia Mansion? Being around these dangerous people might be normal for her. But not for me. I worked hard to be part of the Garcia family, not to end up like this.'

When Elena, sitting on the floor, tried to crawl closer, Sofia scooted away.

Sofia couldn't help but wonder if Elena had some escape plan, which was why she brought her to this villa.

Maybe, just like Sofia had accused her, Elena was ready to do whatever it took to survive, even if it meant pleasing those men.

Perhaps this was just how Elena had lived before.

Whether Elena had good intentions or not didn't matter to Sofia.

She didn't need Elena's so-called kindness.

If Elena hadn't tricked her into thinking the Bianchi family's agent would be at this villa, she wouldn't have thought she had a chance to get closer to Marco. She wouldn't have gone to such lengths to pretend to bump into the stair railing and find a way to separate from the others.

Thinking about it made Sofia even more resentful.

When she met Marco and learned about him from Albert, Sofia thought she had found her next target.

The Garcia family was great, but she wanted more. She wanted to be as noble as a real princess.

What did a princess need? Status? Wealth? No, more importantly, she needed value.

Sofia realized she needed more opportunities to increase her value.

For a woman who wanted to be noble, besides her own efforts, gaining men's admiration and letting them add value to her was the easiest way to elevate her status.

Sofia didn't want to work hard; she wanted to enjoy herself, so she chose the second method.

She started looking for men who could elevate her status.

Like William, who was once her target. When he fell for her, Sofia saw him as just another accessory, proof of her popularity.

Because William was handsome, women were jealous of Sofia but also wanted to be her friend out of admiration.

And because even someone as great as William pursued Sofia, other men were more interested in her.

Sofia learned about the Bianchi family from Albert.

A mafia family, though scary, if she could make the mafia heir one of her suitors, it would boost her reputation.

So, she tried everything to get close to Marco.

But he was too cold. He kept his distance from any woman other than Elena, like an unromantic stone.

Sofia tried many times to get close to Marco but never got the result she wanted. It was a blow to her ego, especially since men usually fell at her feet with just a wave of her hand.

She leaned against the second-floor railing of the villa, watching the useless Elena and Marco learning to swim in the sea.

Marco had easily picked up swimming, while Elena floundered like a clumsy duck.

Sofia couldn't help but think of the first time she saw Marco, holding a disheveled Elena in his arms. Not long before that, one of Sofia's enemies, who hated her, thought she could embarrass Sofia by making her sister look foolish.

That enemy had stepped on Elena's skirt, causing her to fall. Elena looked like a ridiculous duck then again.

'Could Marco really like someone as clumsy as Elena? Does he prefer Cinderella? Did he fall for her at first sight?' Sofia wondered.

She scrutinized Elena in the sea. Elena's hair wasn't as shiny as hers, her skin wasn't as smooth, and she was even wearing a cheap swimsuit bought at the beach.

Elena looked like a total bumpkin to Sofia!

Sofia thought to herself that if Marco was into girls like Elena, then her game just got a whole lot harder.

After all, she couldn't fake that cheap, nauseating vibe Elena had.

While Sofia was hanging out on the second-floor balcony, William suddenly showed up.

"Sofia, have you made up your mind?" He stood next to her, his face all flushed.

Sofia just glanced at him and knew exactly what he was thinking.

'Damn it, I almost forgot. I told this fool I'd think about our relationship,' Sofia cursed in her head.

But that was just a little trick to mess with Elena and keep William hanging.

Sofia had no intention of actually getting serious with William. That would scare off her other suitors and stop her from finding more valuable targets.

"Sorry, William. I still can't give you an answer," Sofia brushed him off casually.

To keep up her perfect manners, she had to hide any hint of annoyance, still keeping that flawless smile.

William looked at her, not ready to give up, and asked, "Then when will you be able to give me an answer? Sofia, I've waited for you too long. What are you hesitating about?"

'Men who are always persistent are so annoying,' Sofia thought.

Facing William's question, Sofia secretly rolled her eyes.

The sight of Elena and Marco in the sea was driving her nuts, making her even more unhappy.

She knew that to keep up the appearance of being pursued, she needed to give men opportunities but never actually let them have her.

For that, she had trained herself to come up with lots of excuses and reasons.

"William, I also hope I can give you an answer soon, but I can't," Sofia changed the subject. "Have you been getting along well with Elena lately?"

William immediately got all nervous, "No, not at all! Sofia, it's just because Elena is your sister, and you said you didn't want to hurt her, so I..."

For some reason, he couldn't finish his sentence, and his eyes started to wander.

Seeing his guilty expression, Sofia suddenly felt a sense of crisis.

William was a man, but he wasn't a faithful one; he had the same flaw as other men.

When facing other women, they would also unhesitatingly show their gentlemanly demeanor.

She realized that maybe Elena had used some way to seduce William, which was why he reacted this way.

Sofia needed to test him, so she looked at William, pretending to be angry. "William, you're deceiving Elena! I hope you are sincere with her!"

"But she clearly lied to you before and got you hurt!" William retorted.

William looked all hurt, insisting that everything he did was for her, not out of selfishness.

But Sofia remained suspicious. "William, I don't want to blame you. I know you love me, but Elena might misunderstand your attitude towards her. You know she has feelings for you."

"So what? It's not my fault she has feelings for me; that's her problem!" William's foolish mind had already made up an excuse for himself. "Everything I did is for you! Even being gentle with her."

This laughable scene made Sofia feel nauseous.

She pretended to be incredulous and asked, "What if Elena confesses to you and wants to date you? You can't use me as an excuse, William; that's inappropriate. If you reject Elena then, it will only make our relationship more complicated and make Elena..."

Sofia didn't finish her sentence, thinking William should have understood her meaning.

He was silent for a moment, then seemed to make up his mind and said, "If it's to protect you, I can even date Elena."

'Date Elena?' Sofia pondered.

If William was infatuated enough with her, letting him be with Elena could be a good way to hurt Elena.

William moved closer to her, once again seeking an answer. "But now, regardless of Elena, I just want a clear answer from you, Sofia."

Unable to use Elena as an excuse to refuse, Sofia was at a loss for how to respond. "I need to think about it more."

"What exactly are you thinking about?" William became anxious, Sofia's repeated evasions seemed to make him realize something. "Do you have feelings for Marco?"
