Chapter 67 My Wavering Heart Between Marco and William
Elena Garcia POV:
Marco's kiss totally messed with my head before I fell asleep.
I had a dream that left me feeling all kinds of helpless.
In the dream, I kissed some guy, and my heart was just overflowing with sweetness. I whispered "William" in my heart, but when I tried to see his face, it was Marco.
When I woke up, I covered my face in frustration.
After getting up, I headed to the dining room and saw Marco. I couldn't even look him in the eye.
Every time I met those hazel eyes, my face felt like it was on fire.
Noah asked, "Elena? Did you forget to close the window before you went to sleep? You look like you need to check your temperature; your face is too red."
Noah was applying chocolate spread on a piece of burnt bread, trying to cover up the disaster.
He handed a piece to Marco, who just tossed it in the trash without tasting it.
Marco had left last night because there wasn't a decent room for him in the student dorm. He came back early this morning.
They were heading out today, and Marco mentioned he needed to take Noah to see his agent. Noah had to prove to the agent that he was totally loyal to his brother Marco.
I awkwardly replied and wished them a good day.
After Noah said I looked sick, Marco came over without hesitation. He sat next to me, touched my forehead with his hand seriously, and then pressed his forehead against mine.
Our faces were super close, just like in the dream, which made me nervous. But Marco only looked concerned.
I could've played it cool, but that annoying Noah whistled right then.
He was teasing his brother, but I thought he was teasing me.
I stood up in a panic, almost knocking over the chair.
Marco said, "Elena, your forehead feels a bit hot."
"No! I'm fine! It is because the room temperature is high!" I made up a lame lie.
The room wasn't hot at all; it was actually kind of cold. Who would believe that?
Marco did. He opened the dining room window, and the cold wind made everyone sneeze.
Being around Marco, the dream still fresh in my mind, made me anxious. I was desperate to prove something—maybe my unwavering love for William or that my feelings for Marco weren't romantic. So I grabbed my phone.
It was Monday, but I didn't have many classes. Maybe I could ask William if he was free?
Then I realized William hadn't sent me a goodnight text last night. I sent a message checking if he was free today, but for the next ten minutes, there was no reply.
Normally, William would reply within three minutes. I started to worry something had happened to him.
Marco took Noah back to the room to change clothes. Noah was still in his costume and didn't think it was a big deal.
Marco wouldn't let Noah do something so dumb. He didn't want to look like a fool in front of the agent.
After they went back to the room, I made a call. Thankfully, it was answered after a bit.
"William?"
William asked, "What happened? Damn, where did your nickname on my phone go? Is this Elena?"
"Yes, it's me." Hearing William's voice, I felt relieved. "I messaged you just now but didn't get your reply for ten minutes. I was wondering what happened to you."
William said, "I didn't get your message. Let me check. Damn, I probably got drunk last night and blocked a lot of people. Don't worry, Elena. I'm fine."
William seemed to be cursing in a low voice but still kept some patience. "What did you just say? You asked if I was free?"
I said honestly, "Yes, I want to see you. I haven't seen you for a long time."
"No, I'm really busy, Elena. I don't have time to hang out." William's tone getting a bitimpatient; maybe he was still hungover. He refused, but then he seemed to think of something and quickly changed his mind. "Wait, Elena, maybe I do have time today. I'm looking forward to seeing you."
The irritation in William's tone disappeared, and he said with a smile, "I hope you can be well-prepared. Maybe you can dress nicely?"
I didn't get what William meant, but it sounded like he wanted to see me too. That made me smile. Marco's kiss and the crazy dream had upset my heart, but now I felt much calmer.
I tried so hard to deny the effect Marco had on me, hoping to prove I didn't have any romantic feelings for him.
I thought that once I saw William, I'd completely forget about Marco. Then, I'd know for sure who I truly loved.
Thinking about what William said, I put on a beautiful dress and did my hair. For our long-awaited meeting, I even put on lipstick, which I wasn't used to.
I was not great at makeup. Back at Garcia Manor, the maids rarely did my makeup, at my insistence.
The lipstick looked weird on my lips. I wanted to wipe it off, and just then, Marco walked in. He said, "We need to leave now, Elena, you..."
He saw my outfit and my face, and he froze. I think he realized who I was going to see.
Marco said, "You look very beautiful, Elena."
He walked closer, his face showing no expression, looking kind of cold, which made me a bit scared.
Under his intense gaze, I felt uneasy, and my heart started racing again.
I wanted to explain, but then I realized there was no need. Marco wasn't my boyfriend. William was, and I was about to see him.
I took a deep breath, wanting to say something to Marco, but he spoke first. "Don't move, Elena."
Nervously, I clenched my hands, watching Marco as he looked at me with earnest intensity. He leaned in closer, bending down towards me.
The distance between us was close, just like in the dream last night. Then his hand brushed against my lips.
When I realized what was happening, my face turned red. Marco just wanted to wipe off the lipstick that had smeared on the corner of my lips.
"Come back early, Elena." His gaze softened. After sighing, he looked at me with a complex expression. "Be careful, and if anything happens, call me, okay?"
I bit my lip and didn't respond.
It didn't take long to reach William's campus. When I saw William, I couldn't help but run towards him.
William was with his friends, and he hugged me warmly.
Tony asked, "William, who is she?"
William introduced, "She's my girlfriend, Elena Garcia. Elena, they are Jones and Tony."
"Oh, isn't your girlfriend..." Jones seemed about to say something, but Tony nudged his shoulder, and he shut up.
Jones continued, "Single, right! Aren't you single? And now you have a girlfriend; no wonder you agreed to join us for the movie party!"
I looked at William in confusion. I thought today was supposed to be just me and William, but...
William put his arm around my shoulder and told me not to worry.
The movie party was an event with his friends. They'd bring their girlfriends and have a gathering together.
"This helps to build some feelings. If you have a favorite movie, you can tell us." Tony winked at me, hinting at something.
I didn't get his hint, but I suddenly felt uneasy.
The party wasn't on campus; it was at a villa far from the school.
The trip would take two hours, and they needed to do some shopping, which meant I couldn't make it back to school tonight.
William reassured me that he'd bring me back before the class tomorrow. "I promise, okay? Elena, don't you want to spend more time with me?"
Tony echoed, "Yeah. Maybe your wonderful night will make you forget about tomorrow's boring classes!"
I couldn't say no. William seemed so excited, and I hadn't seen him for a long time. His friends were also persuading me; they'd bring their girlfriends to the party too.
If I didn't go, William would be alone, and he might be disappointed.
I had many reasons to convince myself, and maybe some of them were related to Marco, so I agreed in the end.
Before leaving, I thought of Marco's previous reminders and concerns.
To avoid him doing the same thing as last night, I told him I wouldn't be returning to the dorm tonight. When Marco asked where I was going, I told him the location unconsciously.
After sending the message, I regretted it and wanted to retract it, but because the car had arrived and William was calling me, I forgot to retract it.
But fortunately, I didn't withdraw the message. At that moment, I had no idea how wise it was to have sent the location to Marco.
