Chapter 90 After Being Kidnapped, I Anxiously Awaited Marco's Reaction.
Elena Garcia's POV:
I couldn't believe my ears. "What do you mean by 'engagement with Sara'?"
Caesar laughed, "You knew they were engaged once, right? When Marco came back to the Bianchi family, Sara almost became his fiancée."
I was puzzled, "But didn't she humiliate Marco and end things with him?"
Caesar shrugged. "Seems like she regrets it now. Otherwise, she wouldn't be acting so insanely jealous now that Marco's into you."
By saving me, he showed he was against Sara, which explained his disdain for her. Or maybe he always looked down on Sara and her obsessive love, and I just hadn't noticed it before.
I didn't like how Sara's attitude towards Marco changed because she started treating him like a trophy rather than someone she loved.
But I also didn't like Caesar's unpredictable comments because he was full of danger and uncertainty, always giving off the vibe that he might betray his allies at any moment.
"She can't do that!" I exclaimed, my voice trembling with anxiety.
I didn't believe Marco would leave me. But deep down, I had a feeling Caesar was right.
The lover of the Bianchi family heir couldn't be a non-Italian girl.
Caesar said casually, "Marco has no choice but to say yes unless he's willing to give up his inheritance in the Bianchi family, or he will find another Italian girl to take Sara's place."
Out of fear, I blurted, "But Marco won't agree!"
Caesar mocked, "Really? But I think he has no reason to refuse. Sara's father is a big shot in the Bianchi family, which would help him consolidate family power and make it easier for him to inherit the Bianchi family. As for the rest..."
Caesar noticed my emotional state. He cupped my face, trying to kiss me, but I dodged. His mismatched eyes were full of regret.
"Your resistance to Marco's engagement is too obvious, sweetheart. It makes me wonder what kind of lies he told to win your heart. I really regret not choosing Albert from Francesco when picking someone to manage the funds. If you had met me earlier, the person you're sad about now would be me," Caesar said with fake regret.
Caesar's words made me feel sick, especially since he kept talking to me in that creepy, intimate tone.
If I had met this lunatic first, I would've definitely stayed in Chicago!
"Get away from me!" I snapped at him. "Marco won't agree to any of this!"
I never expected Marco to betray me; we simply weren't ready to handle such situations.
This resulted in my sadness and a heated argument between Marco and me.
I didn't want to explain too much to Caesar, as it would have negative consequences for both Marco and me.
Caesar sneered, "You really trust him. Are you still waiting for him to come and save you? Because of that phone call before you were kidnapped? I think maybe someone else will come."
As we talked, an SUV approached from a distance. I looked at the car door with anticipation and ran over, wanting to hug Marco as soon as possible, so I didn't hear Caesar's last words clearly.
I would kiss Marco's eyes with my soft lips, kiss his lips, then hug him passionately and tell him I love him.
But when the car door opened, my hopes shattered like fragile glass.
"Leonardo?" I called out the name of the man getting out of the car in a daze, not knowing how to react.
"Elena." Leonardo sighed in relief when he saw me. He quickly walked over and hugged me with his strong arms.
Because of my surprise, I forgot to push him away. His beard grazed my forehead, and then Leonardo gently kissed me there. "Thank God, I made it in time."
"No, you didn't make it, I did. Leonardo, you should thank me," Caesar interjected as he walked over, looking smug.
Leonardo said, disbelief clear in his voice, "You? I thought you orchestrated this kidnapping."
Caesar said, pretending to be hurt, "Don't slander me like that. You can ask Elena if this kidnapping had anything to do with me or if it was because of me that she was saved."
Caesar's question was clever. Technically, what he said was true. The kidnapping was orchestrated by Sara, and I was indeed saved because of him, though he left out his rough actions towards me and my self-rescue by angering him.
Under Caesar's fake smile, I shook my head, confirming the bastard's words.
Eager to know why Leonardo was the one who came, I quickly explained the reason for my kidnapping and asked him how he found out.
Leonardo replied, "It was the hotel front desk. They happened to run into me and told me you were seeking help from the Bianchi family. I sensed you were in danger and came."
I said sincerely, "Thank you, Leon. Even though you came a bit late, I still appreciate you coming."
Leonardo's arrival was unexpected. We had just met today, and I thought even if he saw a reflection of his wife in me, he might not come.
In my heart, the person I was always waiting for was Marco.
Leonardo saw my low spirits and asked, "You were waiting for Marco, right? The message you left at the front desk was for him."
Leonardo was incredulous. "I can't believe it. Your miserable experience was caused by him, and you're still waiting for him?"
"This has nothing to do with you." I coldly rejected Leonardo's questioning.
I was now more anxious to see Marco than when I was waiting, which made me upset and uneasy.
I was very grateful that Leonardo came after hearing the news, but I still felt displeased when he expressed disdain towards Marco.
Caesar chimed in, "He is right, Elena. You can't hold onto a guy who deceives you, especially when he's about to get engaged to another woman."
Caesar's opportunistic words also made me angry. I quickly walked to the car.
Since Marco didn't come, I would go ask him myself. I couldn't always wait; I had to take action myself! I wanted to get the answer from Marco himself.
Having walked up to the car, I turned around and said to them, "I don't want to hear any useless, accusatory words about Marco. I'm going back!"
On the way back, I listened to Caesar's incessant chatter. He and Leonardo squeezed me in the middle of the back seat, like a sandwich.
Caesar mocked Leonardo for choosing a car that didn't drive smoothly, saying it would break his old bones.
Leonardo smiled and said he wasn't that old, and if Caesar didn't shut up, he would show him how hard his bones were.
Hearing their quarrel, I felt irritated.
"Elena, I think you should dump Marco. My invitation is still open to you." Caesar deliberately mentioned his previous invitation to me in front of Leonardo.
"What invitation?" Leonardo asked.
I casually explained, "Caesar invited me to be his mistress."
Leonardo pressed, "You agreed?"
I said, "No, why would I agree? I won't be anyone's mistress."
After hearing my answer, Leonardo visibly relaxed.
Caesar took the opportunity to interject, "That's really disappointing. So if Marco really gets engaged to Sara, you won't choose to be his mistress either?"
I didn't know if I could answer that question. My reason told me that if Marco really agreed to that, my pride wouldn't allow me to stay with him, no matter how sweet and crazy our days together were.
But my emotions also told me I couldn't let go of Marco. The way he loved me was as gentle as the morning sun. How could I believe he would easily give me up for something else, proving that his love for me was a lie?
I snorted coldly and answered Caesar, who was smiling maliciously and waiting for my response, "Get lost."
The return trip felt like it took forever. Actually, it should have been the same amount of time, but because of my anxiety and nervousness, it felt like it took half a day.
That bastard Caesar was still holding his phone, occasionally updating me on Marco's movements.
"Marco finished talking with the Bianchi family elders and left the meeting room."
"Marco returned to his room and saw the chaotic scene."
"Marco rushed out of the room, holding a gun to my men."
I asked tensely, "What happened with the last one?"
"Oh, it seems my men were discovered by Marco while monitoring him. This message is from Marco; he's asking me where I took you." Caesar laughed heartily, completely unconcerned about his men's safety. "He's surprisingly rational in his anger. If I were him, I would have already shot everyone possibly involved in the head."
"That's why the family prefers the controllable Marco over you," Leonardo retorted sarcastically.
"What did you say?" I grabbed Caesar's hand, trying to take his phone, but I couldn't.
Caesar said carelessly, "I told him it was Sara who kidnapped him. You know, sweetheart, I'm more honest than Marco."
"Fuck!" I cursed.
Caesar's answer made me both anxious and expectant. I hoped Marco would do something, especially after learning he might get engaged to Sara again.
But I was also worried Marco might do something extreme, which could put him in danger.
This sweet yet painful feeling drove me crazy, making my heart feel like it was being pricked by a thousand tiny needles.
Leonardo asked, "And then?"
Caesar didn't get it. "Then what?"
"What was Marco's reaction?" Leonardo asked keenly. "You should tell her Marco's reaction; that's what she wants to know."
