Chapter 13
"Oh, my goodness. What happened to my daughter-in-law?" Griselda shouted and looked panicked.
"She fell into the swimming pool. It looks like she's dead."
"No way!" Griselda was shocked. Her body went slack. She almost fell if Max didn't catch her. By now, Max was trying to calm the crying Griselda.
Everyone seemed surprised by the news. In fact, there had just been one more member of the Arven family. They hadn't even had time to get to know each other well. However, Gerald's wife left so soon. Gerald also became a widower. Their faces looked sad.
"Are you sure she's dead?" Max asked.
The man paused for a moment and then shrugged his shoulders. "I think so." There was a look of uncertainty in his voice.
"So, what do we do? We prepare the funeral now."
"No, no. I'm still alive." Kamila said it silently. The thought of being buried alive terrified her. Indeed,
Kamila fainted for a moment. However, she regained consciousness and heard the Arven family's conversation. In a weak body condition, both eyes are still difficult to open. They thought Kamila was dead, even though Kamila was just having trouble responding.
For her own safety, Kamila tried to clear her throat with her eyes still tightly closed. Although it was quiet, it was heard by the man who was still holding Kamila.
"I thought you were dead." The man looked at Kamila's pale face.
"Does that mean she's still alive?" Griselda looked confused.
"Yes, I heard a bit of her voice." The man continued to look at Kamila.
"That means she's still conscious. Quickly take her to the infirmary so she can be treated by the medical team." Max gave the order.
Everyone agreed. The tall man took Kamila to one of the rooms. In a palace-like mansion, there were many rooms. One of them was the medical room. There is also a doctor's private room, a nurse's room, and so on. The house is like having its own hospital. Of course, with professional medical staff.
"What's wrong?" A doctor asked when he saw Kamila lying on the bed.
"She fell in the swimming pool. Please treat her as best you can." Max explained.
"Okay. I will do the examination. Please wait outside." The doctor quickly prepared the medical equipment, assisted by three nurses.
They were already outside.
"Why did she fall in the pool?" Max asked the man who helped Kamila.
"I don't know. I've seen her drown," he replied.
While inside, the nurses changed Kamila's clothes first. After that, the doctor did an examination. There was nothing to worry about. Kamila was fully conscious, although still very weak.
"Thank you," Kamila said softly.
"Be more careful next time. There's nothing to worry about. You will recover in time." The doctor explained.
Kamila gave a small nod. "Can I ask you a question? Who helped me?" She looked curious.
"Mr. Sean. The younger brother of Mr. Gerald." The doctor knew that Kamila was a new family member. So, she didn't know everything yet.
Kamila looked surprised. She had just found out that her husband had a brother. Were there any other brothers or sisters? Kamila didn't know. I was trying to remember who the figure named Sean was.
Could it be that man?
When he helped her, Kamila couldn't see clearly. Kamila felt upset with Sean because he seemed to dislike her and wanted her dead. It's getting uncomfortable living with a mafia family.
In addition, Kamila also remembered the little boy who accidentally pushed her into the pool. Kamila forgives.
Kamila was left alone. The doctor and the nurses came out. They immediately had a lot of questions.
"How is my daughter-in-law?" Griselda asked.
"She's doing well. You can talk to her."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the doctor's answer. Griselda and Max decided to go in, while the others left.
"How are you?" Griselda smiled. Touching Kamila's hand.
"Mama. I'm fine," Kamila replied.
"Fortunately. How did you drown?" Griselda asked.
"A little boy accidentally nudged my body. He and his friend just walked away." Kamila explained.
"Was one of them Alvero?" asked Max.
Kamila shook her head. "They were the same age."
Max understood. It was probably the children of Gerald's cousins who had come to the house. Max's house was very busy today because of the news that Gerald had regained consciousness. However, it was also a threat to Gerald. Max didn't want that to happen, even though he looked worried.
Kamila was looking for something. She couldn't find the man who helped her.
"Who are you looking for?" Griselda understood Kamila's movements. Like Kamila, she hoped there was someone other than them.
"Nothing, Mama." Kamila didn't want to tell the truth.
"Gerald can't see you here. He doesn't know what happened to you either. When it's better, you go to your room. Explain it to Gerald. He might be looking for you." Max explained.
"Who is also looking for him?" Kamila said to herself. It would be better not to meet Gerald. She was not ready to be his wife.
Gerald's parents left the room. Only fifteen minutes later, Kamila also left. Obeying the words of her in-laws. Kamila met the two children who made all this happen. They looked terrified to see her. Running fast. Kamila only smiled slightly.
It felt heavy to enter the room. Slowly opening the door, Kamila was relieved to see Gerald asleep. All the devices on his body had been removed. He was conscious and getting better by the day.
"Thank goodness he's asleep. Now, where should I sleep?" Kamila looked around.
"Why the confusion? It's so strange. Sleep with me. I am your husband!"
Kamila was surprised. She saw that Gerald had opened his eyes. Gosh, when did he wake up?
"Yes, you are my husband. Uhm, but let me sleep on that sofa this time." Kamila pointed to a large sofa in the corner of the room.
"Sleep with me." Gerald patted the side next to him.
Kamila hesitated. Gerald was her husband, but Kamila could not feel like a real wife because she was only a surrogate bride. There was no love in her heart.
She had no choice but to obey. Kamila was already lying next to Gerald, her back to him and away from him.
"Where have you been?"
Kamila couldn't get enough of Gerald. He loved to be shocked. Gerald touched Kamila's shoulder, gripping it gently. When Kamila turned around, she was surprised to see that her position with Gerald was very close. Kamila could not feel her husband's breath.
