Chapter 20
Kamila was surprised to hear her father's angry voice. Kamila didn't know what was going on. Before she could ask, the call was disconnected. With trembling hands, Kamila sent a message to Reynaldi.
[Why is Dad angry?]
Kamila immediately received a reply from Reynaldi.
[Obey what Father says.] Go home now. It's better to talk at home.
Kamila's heart was racing. She looked very confused. Kamila was asked to go home, while she was confused about how to ask permission from Gerald. What reason? Kamila was afraid of being scolded by Gerald and her father. Kamila's father had never been this angry before.
"What are you doing there?"
Gerald's voice startled Kamila. She turned around. Gerald looked at her sharply.
"I was just looking at the view from the window." Kamila lied, even though she wasn't very good at it.
Gerald's eyes narrowed. "You're acting weird. Don't you dare play around behind my back!"
"Yes. I didn't do anything," Kamila retorted.
Kamila continued to think. All day long, Gerald noticed that there was something strange about Kamila. He was with her, but his wife's mind and heart were not with him. Kamila was predictable because her facial expressions were easy to see.
Gerald took Kamila's hand. "Don't ever lie to me. I know you're thinking about something. Tell me honestly. I promise, I won't get angry. Whatever you want, I will grant it. Please don't shut yourself off from your own husband."
Kamila was touched by Gerald's words. Behind his cruel attitude, Gerald was very gentle with her. Kamila unconsciously shed tears.
"Why are you crying?" Gerald wiped away Kamila's tears.
"I'm sorry for not being a good wife. You've been really good to me."
Gerald hugged Kamila tightly. "I'm not a good person. Don't misjudge me. You are my wife. I must treat you well. Say, Do you have a problem?"
"I want to ask your permission. I want to go to my father's house."
"You still have parents?" asked Gerald.
"Yes. I still have a mom and dad," Kamila replied.
Gerald released the hug. He just knew about that. Gerald felt there were many things he didn't know about his wife. Before marriage, Gerald, who still thought Kamila was Vira, who was his bride-to-be, had never met Vira's parents. So, Gerald didn't know that Miranda was Vira's mother. The busyness of work made Gerald not care about it all.
Even now, Gerald doesn't know that his bride-to-be is different. Vira was supposed to be Kamila. Gerald didn't know anything about their family life.
"Why didn't you ever tell me you had a mom and dad?" Gerald asked.
Kamila felt strange. Does this mean that Vira has never told him about her parents?
"Did I never tell you?" Kamila asked.
Gerald shook his head. "Maybe I forgot. But I certainly never met your parents either. Because the wedding organizer took care of the wedding. Maybe my parents know about your parents."
Kamila breathed a sigh of relief. If only when Miranda came there were Gerald's parents, they immediately recognized who Miranda was.
"Can I see my father?" Kamila asked again.
"Of course you can. You must stay with your driver and bodyguard. All for your own good. Next time, bring your parents here. I want to get to know them," Gerald replied.
Kamila smiled. She nodded. Gerald actually wanted to come, but he wasn't feeling well. Kamila got ready because she had gotten permission. On the way, Kamila's heart felt uneasy. When she got home, she saw Reynaldi and Septiawan sitting on a chair.
"All this time, you've been lying to me!" Septiawan stood up. The look of disappointment was clear on his face.
"What do you mean?" Kamila really didn't know.
"It turns out that all this time you were not at home; you were not in the dormitory for college. But you were secretly married and living in a mafia family's house. Didn't you think about my feelings? I'm afraid something will happen to you. Especially since you got married under duress." Septiawan told her everything.
Kamila was silent. What she feared had happened. Her father knew everything. But who told him? There were only two people Kamila suspected: Reynaldi or Miranda.
"How did you know?" asked Kamila.
"You don't need to know about that. It breaks my heart that you have to make such a sacrifice. You're willing to marry someone else to pay for mom's medical bills. I feel useless. Your future is ruined because I can't be a good father and husband." Septiawan was on the verge of tears.
"Dad, don't talk like that." Kamila came closer. Grasping Septiawan's hand. "Kamila is doing all this for our family. Father, don't worry. Kamila is fine. Kamila still wants Mom to live. So, I felt there was no other way."
"Miranda is really too much! She sold you out. It should have been her daughter who married the mafia's son. Not you!" Septiawan was furious.
"That's it, Dad. Don't get emotional. You'll get sick. Everything has happened. Kamila is okay. The proof is that I've been fine until now." Kamila tried to calm her father down.
"No one can guarantee what happens the next day." Septiawan said it firmly.
Kamila agreed. For now, she didn't want her father to be anxious. "Kamila can take care of herself. I apologize for lying. I hope Father always prays for Kamila."
A father must always pray for his child. Septiawan had to accept all this. "What about your studies?"
Kamila shook her head weakly. "I've taken a leave of absence. I don't know if I can go back to college or not."
"If I had the money, I wouldn't have left you to this fate." Septiawan was annoyed with himself.
"Father, don't lose hope." Kamila encouraged him. She hugged Septiawan tightly.
"How is mom?"
"Your mother is fine. Her condition is stable, although she is still unconscious." Septiawan imagined the face of his beloved wife.
Kamila hoped that her mother would recover quickly. Septiawan went to his room to rest. Kamila invited Reynaldi to talk.
"Why did you tell dad about this?" she asked.
"It wasn't me, it was our aunt." Reynaldi replied.
"Aunt Miranda? What did she say?"
"I don't know either. But our father called me and asked me to come home. Dad said Miranda came here and told him everything. You became the wife of a mafia for medical money." Reynaldi explained.
"When I came, our aunt wasn't there. That evil auntie deliberately didn't tell me that everything was her plan. So, I told my father that you were forced to become the wife of the mafia. Replacing Vira, who ran away on the wedding day. If you refused, Auntie wouldn't help with mom's medical expenses. That's why our father was angry. Father, I want to hear the explanation directly from you." Reynaldi continued his sentence.
In her heart, Kamila hated her aunt, even though she was her mother's twin sister. After this, Kamila had to meet Miranda.
"I didn't expect things to turn out like this. I beg you, please take care of mom and dad. Let me know if anything happens. Don't think about my condition. I'm fine." Kamila knew that her family was always thinking about her. So, she had to show that she was doing well.
Kamila said goodbye. Her destination was Miranda's house. After half an hour of travel time, Kamila arrived at the blue house.
"Aunt! Open the door!" Kamila shouted. Banging loudly on the door. Kamila was emotional.
The figure who opened the door was a girl whose face was similar to Kamila's. Surprised to see Kamila in front of her eyes, Kamila's mouth gaped.
"Vira? You're back?"
