Chapter 8
Kamila's heart was racing. Her blood rushed violently. Of all the things that happened in Gerald's life, that was the name he mentioned. Kamila thought that Gerald really loved his cousin, and then the question arose: why did Vira choose another man to marry him? What about Kamila? Her status is now that of a surrogate bride. Neither of them loved each other. However, she felt bad about Gerald, who already loved Vira and was replaced by Kamila.
Gerald remembered that he had a future wife named Vira Jayanti. However, he was busy developing the family business and many other things. Therefore, he didn't have time to meet his future wife often before he fell into a coma. All the wedding preparations were organized by Gerald's men.
What Gerald didn't expect was that his wife would be stunned after he popped the question. The man's forehead wrinkled. "Why are you silent?" he asked.
Kamila snapped out of it. A smile appeared on her face. "I'm so glad you're slowly starting to remember me. Yes, I am Vira Jayanti, your wife." Kamila made up a story. Actually, she didn't like referring to herself as her cousin because Kamila was not hers.
Although the faces are very similar, the attitudes are very different. Gerald just believed it. Kamila was forced to confess to being her cousin for the sake of her mother's recovery and also for the safety of the family. If she confesses, she may not survive. She doesn't know how long Kamila has to pretend to be Vira.
Kamila changed her position, a little more forward. Her mind was in turmoil. For a moment, she didn't know how to talk to the man in front of her. Her mind kept spinning in an endless loop. Although she hated her aunt's family for letting her become a scapegoat, they had helped her over the years. Kamila was more afraid that it would involve her family.
"I know you, not like this. You are very aggressive. Not stiff, referring to yourself as me," Gerald said.
Kamila thinned her lips. She was used to referring to herself as me in front of others to be more polite. "Ah, yes. You remember me well, uh?" Her tone seemed nervous. Slowly, Kamila would change her style of speech.
Kamila was not the aggressive type, if her cousin was. She knew it well. "Do I have to be aggressive too? To be Vira?" She wondered silently.
Gerald stared at his wife's face in silence. Memories were still vague. As Gerald recalled, she was beautiful before, but now she has increased many times over.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" asked Kamila with a flushed face. She was afraid of finding out that she was not Vira if she paid attention to Gerald for a long time.
"It's okay. Is it wrong for me to look at my own wife's face?" Gerald asked.
"It's not wrong," Kamila replied quickly.
"I'll go ask the doctor to examine you," Kamila said.
Gerald nodded, and Kamila breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Gerald let go. Kamila's life was saved. She could not stay in the same room with her husband for long. As soon as Kamila came out, just a few steps from the door, she was greeted by two bodyguards.
"Where are you going, Mrs. Arven?" asked one of the guards.
"I want to call the doctor. Gerald has regained consciousness," Kamila replied.
"What? He's awake?" The question came out of someone's mouth.
Kamila looked up at him. A man with almost the same posture as Gerald, except Gerald was a little thinner. He was also handsome. Kamila didn't know how many handsome men were in this mafia house. Kamila also didn't know who the man was, who looked surprised to hear the news from her just now. She remembered that on her wedding day, the man in front of her was not there. Maybe she forgot, she thought.
"Tell me quickly! Is it true?" the man asked.
"Yeah, Gerald has regained consciousness, and we had to call a doctor to check on him," Kamila replied with a gasp.
"Let me take you, ma'am." One of the bodyguards led Kamila along. Before leaving, Kamila had time to look back at the man with a flat face.
The house was spacious, with a room for the doctor and several nurses who took care of Gerald earlier. Kamila also met with Bianca. They stared at each other. Kamila entered the doctor's room.
"Doctor, please check Gerald's condition. He has regained consciousness," Kamila said.
The man in the white coat looked surprised and smiled. Both of them went straight out and went to Gerald's room. They entered together. The doctor checked the condition of Kamila's husband.
"It's a miracle; I predicted that Mr. Gerald's consciousness period would be very long, maybe not even survive. What did you do to bring him back to consciousness?" the doctor asked.
Kamila scratched her neck. It was embarrassing, to be honest. "Well, I just prayed, and thank God my husband is awake," she replied.
"Mr. Gerald will gradually recover. We will continue to monitor his condition. For now, Mr. Gerald is in good condition," said the doctor.
Kamila gave a small nod. After that, she escorted the doctor out. As soon as they opened the door, they were shocked to see the crowd.
"Is it true that Gerald is awake?" a woman asked.
Kamila counted six people, not to mention that when she stood on tiptoe, there were ten more people behind. Of course, she didn't know all of them. Once the news of Gerald regaining consciousness spread, Arven's extended family was shocked. No one could keep sleeping, so they all came here.
"Yes, the Master is awake and in good condition. I have checked his condition." The doctor answered, representing Kamila.
Both corners of Kamila's eyes twitched. She was afraid of being among the Mafia family. What would it be like if she was killed by them, especially if it was discovered that Kamila was not a real bride? She was young and had a family. She didn't want to die now.
"May we see Gerald now?" a man asked.
Kamila remembered that the woman with blonde hair was Gerald's mother, and the man with shiny black hair was his father.
"You may, but don't let everyone in. We also have to think about Mr. Gerald's condition. Don't push him too hard to remember things," the doctor replied.
Griselda was the name of Gerald's mother, and Max was his father. The two of them entered first. Inside, they couldn't hide their emotion that their son had regained consciousness.
"Honey, how are you now?" asked Griselda. She slowly hugged Gerald, who was still lying on the bed.
"Good, Ma," Gerald replied.
"Papa and Mama, how are you? It's been a long time since we met," asked Gerald.
"Mama and Papa have not been well since you were in a coma for two months, son. Thank God you're awake; we're so happy," Griselda replied. She rubbed the corners of her watery eyes.
"It really is a miracle. How did you wake up? When the doctor had already pronounced you dead, It was Max's turn to ask.
Gerald was silent for a while and then remembered a little of Kamila's words. "A kiss," he said.
His parents were confused. "What do you mean, son?" asked Griselda.
Gerald was still having trouble remembering exactly what Kamila had said. "She said she kissed me," he replied.
