Chapter Twenty-Six

William had finished eating and was cleaning up when he heard the detective start to come to, he quickly finished what he was doing and went to stand in front of Matthew. Detective Riley had started to wake up, his body ached, and his head was throbbing. When he tried to move his arms, he found them tied behind his back. His vision was still blurred but as he started to focus he saw William standing in front of him.

“William…. Whe… Where’s Sam?” It was hard for him to form the words. He remembered being hit by the taser, but it’s never left him feeling like this.

William stepped aside to reveal the cot with Samantha, he had strapped her wrists above her head again and had taken a piece of cloth and tied it around her mouth. “She’s right here Detective Riley, still alive and still in one piece… more or less.” He laughed at that last part and it angered Matt, he wanted so much to beat the smug smile off of Williams face. William could tell the detective wasn’t used to the effects of the sedative and was trying so hard to fight them.

“What.. what the hell… did you give me?” Matt asked but he think he already knew, the same shit William had clearly been injecting Sam with. It was no wonder she lay so still, he’d probably drugged her again as well. It made him sick to see that monster standing over his daughter he wished more than anything to save her even if it meant him dying.

“I think you know exactly what I did detective… I can see you trying to reason things out. Wonderful isn’t and you’ve only seen the composition of this particular drug… but now you get to experience for yourself.” He looked the detective up and down, it was interesting to see him trying to form thoughts and failing. Sadly the effect would wear off soon and he’d end his fun, Sam was worse than he thought he hadn’t given her a big dose like the last few times and she should have stirred by now. William sat on the end of the cot and leveled his gaze with the detective.

Matt was starting to think clearer than he had, he was grateful for it, he could only imagine how his daughter felt He hated William being so close and not being able to do anything. “Why? Why her, why is William… for your brother?” William was caught off guard but not enough to shake him if anything he was impressed with the detective.

“Very perceptive Detective Riley and to answer your question yes … for my brother. You killed him to save her… I want revenge and what better way than to take what is most precious to you.” The look in Williams eyes said it all, he would do whatever it took to make Matthew pay and that meant killing his daughter. William continued on, “ Not a day goes by that I don’t blame myself for leaving him alone… but I blame you more…you killed him.”

Matt was almost back to his old self, he decided to push the limits, “Hate to burst your bubble William but I didn’t kill him. I was there, but that honor fell to Detective Nolan… he gave your brother every chance to surrender he responded by shooting my daughter in the back…”, William shouted and knocked the detective over losing his cool and composure.

“Lies!! You killed him! He shot her only after you shot him!!” He kicked the detective hard while he was on the ground and Matt felt something crack. He inhaled sharply feeling the pain and took a few breaths before speaking again.

“It’s the truth, ask Sam if you don’t believe me or better yet ask Chris … your brother was an idiot and didn’t listen. He deserved what he got…” William hauled off and kicked the detective again causing him to cry out in pain. Around the same time Sam started to come too and William quickly grabbed the detective off of the floor and righted him. He then grabbed the roll of tape ripped off a piece and slapped it over the detectives mouth. Matt didn’t try to fight it he was in too much pain, he was sure William had broken a few of his ribs with those love taps. William then went over to Sam and removed her gag, he proceeded to remove her wrists from the restraints and tie them behind her back. Samantha looked like she was ready to keel over and it saddened and infuriated Matt at the same time. William then sat down on the cot next to her and pulled her close, he took a small syringe out of his bag, it contained a small dose of adrenaline. It would be just enough to help kick start her system so that she could function enough to answer his questions and be coherent. Long enough for him to decide how to end her, and he currently favoring the idea of a knife at the moment quick and painless depending on where he decided to stab her. He moved the hair from her neck and found her carotid artery he pushed the needle in and pressed the plunger. Sam let out a faint whimper before her eyes started to focus, and she saw her father in front of her bound and gagged.

“Dad…” She called out to her father it saddened her to see her hero like this, bound and gagged in front of her. William was beside her and started to speak to her, “Focus Sam, as you can see he’s fine.” She blinked a few more time to clear her vision she turned her head to at the person speaking, as she vaguely recalled their voice. “That a girl love, take a minute focus for me I have a question for you…” She looked at him and then it came back, she had been held captive by William O’Brien for the last week. The drugs he kept giving her had made her feel sleepy and kept messing with her memory. But she remembered and the moment it clicked William saw the recognition in her eyes.

“Your father and I were having a discussion before you woke up… I need you to tell me if what he said is true…”, Sam was confused and it showed what could they have possibly been talking about that he needed her to corroborate whether or not her father had lied. “What could he possibly be lying about? If you really know so much about us then you would know he doesn’t lie.” She all but spat the words at him and he was losing his cool again, he let go of her arm stood up and grabbed her by the throat and squeezed just enough to cause pain. This pissed Matt off but he couldn’t do anything about it, William spoke again, “I’m not going to ask twice Sam so listen very carefully and don’t play games….or I will choke the life from you!” He squeezed slightly harder causing her to cry out in pain, she managed to squeak out a small barely audible yes before he released her. Tears ran down her and William spoke again, “Was your father the one who shot my brother?”, Samantha needed a moment and then she answered. “No, it was detective Chris Nolan, he shot your brother…”, she was crying but she looked him in the eye and didn’t waiver. “Who shot first and don’t lie to me…”, William was angry and Sam could see it clearly now. “He did…. They told him to put the gun down… he didn’t listen and…and he shot me…” She was sobbing now almost like she was begging for something but he didn’t know what. Matt couldn’t stand to see his daughter like this, he didn’t want to buy he looked away. William sat back down next to Sam he pulled her close and she tried to pull away, but he just pulled her closer. “Thank you… hush now it’s going to be alright.” William pulled her closer and forced her to look at him and then he kissed her hard. Matthew couldn’t take it anymore and tried to lash out despite the pain he was in and despite the ropes tying his hands together. William let Sam go and laughed at the detective, “Apologies detective I couldn’t help myself, she’s just so beautiful you know.” He caressed Sam’s face and looked at the bound and gagged detective, “I think you and I need to finish our discussion now…”.

William went to the table again and grabbed the roll of tape and ripped a few pieces off. He walked over to Sam and placed them over her mouth before picking her up along with his small bag. She tried to fight him but it was no use, he carried her in to one of the other rooms and tied her to an exposed beam. He then pulled a syringe out of his bag, he told her it was just a mild sedative to make her more relaxed. She cried out begging him not to but her muffled pleas fell on deaf ears. William left her on the floor tied to the beam and went back out to the detective to continue their conversation.
