Chapter 29

Chris called Laura as soon as the call went dead on the other end, he knew they had gotten a location but wasn't expecting it to be so close. He knew everyone including him were silently kicking themselves, William had kept such a close eye this whole time. They should have expected him to be set up in Sam's apartment building how could they not remember that her floor was empty save for her. As quickly as he could Chris called for back up and had them set up in Matt's apartment as well as some of the adjacent roof tops. Once his team arrived he was able to break out the infrared camera and locate Matt and Sam quickly. However everything seemed to go wrong the moment they saw Matt tied up in the apartment across the way. Chris called the lab and gave them an update on the situation. "Matt's been taken hostage by William, we're going to continue to monitor the situation, I'll try to keep you updated as much as possible." Chris had been in many similar situations before, and only one other time had it involved Matt. They'd saved him then and they would save him now and Samantha too, they just had to wait for an opportunity.

After he hung up William threw his phone across the room and screamed, upset that the detective had been able to track his call. He turned back around and looked through the window but Detective Nolan was facing away and on the phone. William knew it was only a matter of time before the cops were all over the place and he needed to act quickly. He walked over to Matthew and ripped the tape from his mouth, "Be honest with me Detective, how soon before the NYPD have this place covered?! That is assuming they aren't already nearby...". Matt wouldn't let William see how unnerved he was or that he was harboring doubts, "If I had to guess they're already somewhere near by waiting, Chris has always been prepared even if it's just a small unit, but you're prepared to die so why drag this out William?" He was right, William was willing to die and he'd be taking at least Samantha along with him. After hearing what the detective said, William made his way to the other room where Samantha was, pondering what his next move was going to be. He knew the detective would use whatever time he could to either escape or try and buy more time for his daughter and himself. Come what may William was intent on grabbing Sam and killing her in front of Detective Riley.

It was hard to tell how much time had passed, Samantha was still gagged and bound to the pillar in the other room where William had left her. She desperately tried to clear the fog from her mind, but with the drugs he had been pumping into her system they had started to take their toll. Sam desperately tried to work her way out of the restraints without success, as sadly her strength was little to none. Rather than waste what precious energy she had left on that, she just sat there and thought about her father and Nicholas. Just as before with Nick, she knew that William now alone with Matt, and it scared her to know what was being said or done. Even though Nick had promised not to tell Matt what William had done, that didn't mean William himself wouldn't... she knew that if he told Matt what had happened neither of them would ever be the same again. Not that Samantha was ever going to be the same, but she didn't want or need people knowing that this murderer had taken away her last shreds of dignity. Samantha simply waited for William to return, it pained her to admit it, but she wanted it all to be over, even if that meant her dying. Soon enough she heard a commotion outside the bathroom, it wasn't long before William came in.

Still tied to the chair Matt was desperately thinking of ways to get out of his restraints, he knew it was only a matter of time before William came back. Even though he was in an immense amount of pain he tried pulling at the ropes binding his wrists, but this time something gave. Working as quickly and quietly as he could Matt finally managed to free his wrists, being as careful as possible he got up and grabbed his gun. Looking out the window he could see Chris was still in his apartment and had noticed that the hostage and swat teams and started to occupy his Apartment and the surrounding rooftops. He went to where William's phone had landed and picked it up, it was severely cracked but it still worked. Clicking on the last number called Matt managed to compose a quick text to Chris letting him know he had freed himself but couldn't talk as he didn't want William to kill him or Sam. Even though he was free, Matt knew that the window for opportunity was small and the room for error was even smaller. There was still the possibility one or both of them could be hurt or killed, but he knew one thing was for sure, William was going to be taken down no matter what. It wasn't long before Matt heard the door to the other room open and aimed his weapon towards the small hallway. Unfortunately he had not expected that William would come out holding his daughter in front of him. Matt could see the fear on his daughters face, and the wicked glint of the blade at her throat certainly wasn't helping his composure either.

Samantha looked over as soon as she heard the door start to open, it was William, and he closed the door as quickly as he had opened it. He went and sat down next to Samantha, she didn't even bother trying to move away from William as she had previously done. He was clearly upset about something and Sam wasn't sure she wanted to know. William then removed the tape, and pulled her face towards his and spoke with her, "I trust by now you've come to the realization that it all comes to an end today? We all know just how close you are to death just from everything I've done to you in the past few days." There was truth in Williams words, but if he wanted her to beg, that's where he was mistaken. While Sam would indeed welcome death at this point, nothing was going to make her beg this monster for it. "If you came in here expecting me to beg for death... you'd be wrong William. I know I'm going to die, but I'll leave that up to you... it seems you have a reason for dragging this out." Caught slightly off guard by her words, William still didn't skip a beat, "While I know I could make you beg Samantha, as I have successfully done so before, you are right about dragging it out. Your father was so close to breaking, its almost sad to see the fun come to an end... on the other hand the mere thought of it is almost as exciting as when I had you all 3 times." That thought alone caused Samantha to try and turn away, but William kept her looking at him. "You are by far the most memorable of all the women I have killed over the years, sadly our time has come to an end... your team found us quicker than I anticipated."
