Chapter 40: I Don't Think I Can Trust Him

Luciano

Ever since Abigail had frozen me out, I had to make myself busy to get her out of my head for a while. I refused to let her go completely but if time and space were what she needed then I was willing to give her that. She had blocked my number the first time I called her and all I wanted to hear was her voice even if she would scream at me. I hadn't slept with Agnes, as I said, I would never do that to Abigail.

I had been occupied with my properties such as restaurants, bars etc and dealing with the problem that occurred in our cartel. Luckily, we haven't heard or noticed anything more from The Black Lotus Mafia, not that it matters. They would have no chance against me. I don't sleep much at night, my bed still smelled like her even though I washed the bed sheets several times. It wasn't the smell that bothered me, I loved her smell but it reminded me of what I lost which was her. At this point, I even had to get out and sleep in the guest room and I haven't been inside my bedroom for days.

I knew I was going to get her back somehow. I had to but for now, the only thing I could do that would prevent me from going over to her house and begging for her forgiveness was to get myself busy with other things. Every time I saw a dark-haired woman whether it was on the street or anywhere else, my heart jumped. I was hoping it would be her but I was always disappointed the second they turned around. Agnes has been on me ever since she got the news that Abigail had left. She was literally on her knees for me and I mean sure, she was beautiful but she disgusted me and she wasn't Abigail. Abigail was so much more than just her stunning looks and I would never want to be with anyone else.

I didn't feel as alive as I had felt with her, the world had seemed to stop. Every time I found myself picturing her face, I forced my thoughts into another direction but everything came back to her. Every single time.

Abigail POV.

I walked down the stairs after hearing my mother call my name, they both stood by the door when I came down, suitcase in their hands. I wrapped my arms around my waist, feeling the cold air drift into the house from the open front door and when they noticed my presence, they smiled and pulled me into a hug.

“Are you sure you feel better because if you don't, your father can go by himself?” She caressed my cheek with the outside of her hand and I gave her a reassuring smile.

“Mother, I am fine. I am not sick anymore.” I assured her.

“But…”

“Just go.” I chuckled, pushing them out.

My mother gave me a kiss on the cheek before entering the car.

“Goodbye, honey and don't wreck the house.” My father said and kissed my cheek.

“I will try.” I muttered.

I waved them goodbye as they drove out of the gate then I turned around to walk inside the house. I sighed as I closed the door and I turned around, the cat was sitting on the stairs.

“It is just you and me.” I mumbled.

My parents were going on a business trip for two weeks and luckily I could stay home by myself, I often was though as they worked a lot which means I was used to it. I walked to the kitchen with the cat following me right behind and decided to call Jennifer, she was finally home from her vacation which meant that she had to help me get Luciano off my mind. I still missed him and every day, I regretted my decision of leaving even more. I leaned over the counter while waiting for her to pick up the call.

“Hi, what's up?” I said as she picked up the call.

“Do you want to come with me to the mall?” she huffed.

“Of course, I do.” I replied.

I walked to my room and tried to choose an outfit, why was it always so hard? Right when I heard the door open downstairs and Jennifer yelling for me to hurry up. I had been able to choose a black short dress, it was comfortable and pretty, I just hoped I wouldn't get too cold as it was sleeveless. It was still summer but I still thought it was too cold sometimes. With my bag on my shoulder, I hurried downstairs where she stood, ushering me out.

“What was the rush?” I laughed as we took our seats in her car. She turned on the engine and we drove off.

“There is a sale on Victoria's secret, we have to hurry before all the goodies are gone.” Her serious tone made me laugh.

The first store we went to was obviously Victoria's secret and she was right, there was a sale which meant a lot of people.

“I am just going to wait here.” I said, furrowing my eyebrows as I watched the mass of girls fighting to get their hands on a pair of underwear.

“No, come on. I have to get your opinion on things.” She tried to pull me in by my arms but I managed to hold back.

“You look good in everything, I just don't want to get squished by stressed girls.”

“Ugh, fine.”

I chuckled as I watched her disappear into the mass of people. I waited for twenty minutes and started to get impatient and when I turned around, I saw a coffee shop that sells soda and I was in desperate need of a soft drink right now.

“Thank goodness,” I mumbled to myself and walked to the shop.

After paying for my drink, I stepped out of the shop and took a sip. When I put the lid back on and raised my gaze, my eyes widened. It was one of Luciano's men, he stood in the middle of the shopping center, his arms folded and his eyes were searching for something. Was Luciano here as well? Oh shit before he could see me, I hurried to Jennifer who just got out of the store, smiling. Her smile soon went away and turned into a confused frown when I pulled her with me to the exit.

“What are you doing?” She asked.

“We are leaving, hurry up.” We quickly walked out and I exhaled in relief.

“What was that about?” She asked and I turned to her with folded arms.

“I saw one of Luciano's men and the last thing I need right now is to see him.” She sighed.

“You can't ignore him forever, you guys need to communicate.” We started walking towards her car, side by side.

“I know, I just…” she raised an eyebrow at me.

“Exactly, listen, all I know is that man was good for you and you don't find a man like that on the street.” We were now seated in her car and I looked at her.

“But I am not sure if I can trust him.”

“Why?” She asked.

“Because.. he keeps things from me and…I mean he works with my father and…” the words floated off.
