Chapter 62: I Have To Protect You

Chapter 62: I Have To Protect You

Abigail

When I finally saw the sign that said Hotel De Adams. Of course, Luciano used his name, I felt relieved. I hurried through the doors and when I looked over my shoulder and saw the two guys standing outside, looking irritated. Maybe it was a bad idea to lead them back here but I had nowhere else to go. I took the elevator up, using my black card that only led to our floor. I let out a breath when silence surrounded me, apart from the sound of the elevator moving. My heart was still beating at a fast pace, probably from the adrenaline.

When the door opened and my gaze raised and I gaped. Luciano stood right on the other side and a mad look on his face.

“You left without guards?” He asked, frustration was dripping from his tongue.

I knew it had been stupid of me to just leave like that but I didn't have the energy to argue with him right now.

“So?” I sighed, stepping around him and he quickly turned me back around, grabbing my arm.

“Don't walk away, explain yourself.”

“Ouch, you are hurting me.” I frowned, he was not, his grip wasn't even hard and he scoffed.

“I am not hurting you,” he said as he started leading me into the apartment and when he closed the door, he let go of me and turned to me with his arms folded.

“Why did you leave without the guards? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is, Abigail? I have talked to you about this several times.” He said, his tone slightly concerned.

“I know but I just wanted to have some alone time.”

I dropped my purse and bag on the floor and turned around to walk to the kitchen and he followed me closely.

“I don't care, if alone time means that you are unsafe, then you can't have that.” I turned to him with a frown.

“I am not unsafe just because I am alone.” He muttered, probably I was wrong about that.

“Did anything happen?” He sighed.

I hesitated for a moment, technically nothing happened. I was just freaked out.

“No,” I said, opening the cabinet to take out a glass.

“Stop lying, what happened?” He asked.

“Luciano, just…” he grabbed my arm to make me look at him.

“Abigail,” his eyebrows raised, waiting for me to spill and I sighed.

Was it even worth telling him about those men? I mean, it could have been nothing but a misunderstanding. But then again, who follows someone like that?

“There were just…some guys.” I mumbled.

“Some guys? What guys?” He frowned.

I lowered my back on the couch while he stood in front of me, towering above me as usual.

“I don't know, there were two men in leather jackets that I had seen back home and now they were here. I don't know who they were.” I looked into his eyes and he looked deep in thoughts.

“Were they snagged?” He asked and I nodded while taking a sip of the water I just poured into the glass.

Why was that matter? I tried to think back to that moment, yes they definitely had.

“Yes,” I replied.

“What was it?” He said, his tone firm but his irritation wasn't directed at me anymore.

“A bird, I think.” He tilted his head back with a heavy exhale.

“Fuck, Black Lotus.” He said quietly.

“What? Why would they be here?”

He looked down at me quietly and I could practically see the wheels in his head spinning. Then he opened his mouth and what I heard almost made my jaw drop. He told me that he had found out that The Black Lotus Mafia might be after me. For not only one but two reasons. The first because they had some sort of conflict with my father and the second one because the news about our relationship had spread. I had to sit down by the dinner table to take all the information. When he was done talking, he stayed quiet, waiting for a reaction. I was stunned by what he had said, they were after me? And I had been stupid enough to go out by myself. Of course, I didn't know then but still. But am I getting this information now? I looked up at him.

“Why didn't you tell me?” I asked in a serious tone.

“We didn't know if it was true and I didn't want to worry you.”

I could understand that in a way but he had promised to be more open with me. Our relationship needed that, honest otherwise it wouldn't work.

“But you promised to not keep things from me.” I said as I stood up and folded my arms.

“Abigail, you have to understand that I have to protect you.” His tone sounded annoyed.

“That doesn't mean hiding things especially when it comes to me and my family.” I said in a raised voice. He sighed heavily and I could notice him getting more irritated.

“I will do whatever I can to protect you and if that means keeping things from you then that is what I will do.” He said, turning around to work to the living room and I followed him.

“You don't get to make that decision.” I snapped.

“Yes, I do.”

I didn't want to fight with him but we had to act like adults here, both of us. Not as if he was my father who decided everything for me, I am not a child and he had no right to keep something that is important from me.

“And why would you have the right to do that?” I pushed.

“Because I love you,” he blurted, turning around to face me.

“And as your boyfriend, I have every right to do what I think is best for you and that means keeping you safe in any way I find is best.”

I was taken aback by his words, they had fallen so naturally from his lips and I stayed quiet, waiting for him to talk it back in case it was just in the heat of the moment but he didn't say anything more.

“You love me?” I asked quietly.

All of a sudden the frustrated tension was paused, the last thing I thought would be the outcome of this argument was him confessing his emotions like that.

“Yes, I do.” He said in a calm tone.

I stepped closer to him and put my hands on his chest as I breathed out. I stood up on my toes and pecked his lips.

“I love you too, Luciano but I still need you to talk to me about these things.”

As the words left my lips, I felt him relax against me and he pulled me into a hug. My arms went around his neck and I felt his lips place soft kisses on my neck.

“I know, I am sorry. It won't happen again, I promise.”

We stayed like that for about a minute, embracing each other until he broke the silence.

“Say that again.” He said, I pulled back to look up at him and his arms were still around my waist.

“Say what?” I asked.

“The words,” he sounded so careful, nervous almost. I chuckled and leaned up to hover right above his lips.

“I love you.”
