Chapter 21

Lola's POV
"Mark, you can't order McDonalds!" I hissed under my breath, aware of Mark pouting like a five-year-old whose favorite toy got broken on a Christmas eve. He's been craving junk food all day long, and being the dumbass he is, he decided to order McDonalds.
To the freakin castle
"I'll order you a Big Mac." He bribed, wiggling his eyebrows in an extremely creepy way. Yeah, hunger does that to a person. He knows I've got a weak spot for the big mac, and he's using that weakness against me
It's not fair, I tell you.
"Mark, no."
"Oh, for the love of –"
"Nope." I popped the word out
"Instead of one, I'll get you five big macs." He raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smirk playing on the corners of his lips. Don't let his deceptive ways fool you, Lola . We cannot, and I repeat cannot order food to the castle. Or can we
No –get that thought out of your head
"As tempting as your offer sounds, but I have to let in down Mark." It felt like one of those soap opera moments, the only thing missing is the cheesy overdramatic music playing in the background
"You're a pain in the ass." He pointed out huffing in protest. Well, someone's cranky today
"Thanks." I grinned seeing him roll his eyes annoyingly
It would be inappropriate on so many levels, and I didn't want another heated confrontation with Jake, nonetheless on a stupid matter like ordering food
I've been avoiding any contact with him for the past two days, and it was anything but easy. He has tried several times to speak to me, and to be honest, the desperation in his eyes made my heart ache in sadness.
After various failed attempts, Mia took action. She knew very well that I needed some time to myself, to think things over and clear my head. So she confronted him and told him to back off for a while until I feel ready to talk to him. Not to mention that she threatened to castrate him. Yeah, you heard that right, Mia told him off like that. To be honest I was a tad bit surprised that she kept her tongue in check, she usually uses more vulgar terms.
On the other hand, Mark never stopped guilt tripping me about the whole deal and I couldn't help but feel that he's doing that on purpose so I'll talk to Jake. But my stubborn self was in control, and although I felt a pang of guilt for ignoring him this long, I still didn't want to talk to him
"By the way, I saw Vera in the morning." Mark smirked
"And?" I waited for him to continue
"Nothing, she just huffed and walked past me. But she did look like she wanted to strangle me." I snickered, looks like I put her in place.
After the incident with Vera, Uncle Kayden gave me one hell of a scold and extended Vera's stay for another week of so. Isn't the best of news, but I had no say in this. Anyway, I avoided running into her at all costs since it would lead to more trouble on my part.
In the past two days, Mia and I explored part of the kingdom since we got bored out of our minds from sulking in our rooms. We went to a mall not too far away from the castle, and let's just say that we enjoyed ourselves a little too much
Mia lived up to the definition of a shopaholic, buying a whole lot of clothes. And when I say a lot, I mean clothes that can fit an entire store. I wasn't that happy when she dragged me into a lingerie store, practically begging me to buy some lace items that caught my eye
It'll come in handy, she insisted.
I left Mark to fend for himself in the kitchen, certain that the chef will take good care of him and cook him a delicious plate that'll please his cravings. I made my way up to the guest room I was sleeping in
That's true, I moved into one of the guest rooms. It may have been one of the stupidest decisions I've ever made, especially after Jake apologized, but I took that decision out of anger. And technically, Jake didn't apologize upfront, he just said he's sorry in a text
So, that doesn't count as an actual apology.
When Jake found out, he wasted no time searching for me and banging on the door until it nearly collapsed. I couldn't be more thankful of Mark's presence since Jake was about to actually break the door
Being the loving best friend he is, Mark knocked some sense into Jace, telling him that I'll talk to him when I'm ready. That didn't go out so well since I couldn't practically hear Jake yelling profanities, but it eventually worked out
I laughed remembering Mark's flushed face once he entered the room. You owe me big time, he said
I closed the bedroom's door behind me and made my way to the closet, but I stopped in my tracks seeing a white box tied with a red ribbon placed on my bed. That's weird
The first thing I saw when I opened the box was a small letter. I ripped the seal open to read whatever is written inside of it
Meet me at the top floor
I'll be waiting for you at eight
And wear the necklace
My jaw dropped as I gazed at the box's content
"That must've cost him a fortune." I said mainly to myself blowing out a breath I didn't know I was keeping
Where's Mia when I need her
"Oh my gosh, look at the necklace!" Mia gushed, staring at the diamond necklace in the palm of her hand. I nodded, a small smile playing on my face
Ever since I read his letter, my mood turned upside down and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. The necklace is beautiful, and very expensive. I can tell by just looking at it. It's made of pure gold, with diamond gemstones rounding its top and bottom.
"Shit, it must've cost a fortune." Mia stared at it closely, the awe struck expression still on her face. Remind me to tell Mark to buy her a necklace soon, Mia's a sucker for those type of things.
"Aya, if you tell me you ain't going to see him then I might just throw you from the balcony." Mia stated, narrowing her eyes in a don't you dare break the guy's heart manner. I rolled my eyes, but the smile on my face didn't falter.
Truth is, I wanted to see him, desperately. Even though it's only been two days, but I terribly missed him, and knowing he was only a few meters away didn't make things any easier. You know the feeling when you're mad at someone but at the same time yearn to see him so much it hurts?
That's what I'm feeling
"I want to but I don't know what to wear." I sighed, staring into the now open closet and shook my head. Believe it or not, most of the clothes I brought consisted of sweatpants, shirts, shorts and sneakers.
None of which are fit for a date.
The thought itself made me want to jump from excitement. Well sort of, it's considered as a date isn't it?
"Don't worry, I have just what it takes to make Jake drool over you. Wait for me." Mia winked skipping out of the room. I stared at the same spot she was in seconds before and chuckled shaking my head. No longer than two minutes later, Mia walked in carrying a bag in one hand and a shoe box in another
"I knew I had to buy those when I first laid my eyes on them." She strolled in and put the bag and box on my bed. The way she grinned made alarm bells ring rather loudly in my head. Please don't tell me the dress she bought is too revealing
She pulled the dress out and grinned widely, now I can definitely see why she bought it in the first place. The dress was beautiful.
"Wow, that's –
"Sexy? I know." She sighed contently, her eyes zooming up and down my figure
"With my magical touch, Jake will be on one knee proposing to you in no time." She clapped her hands together, her eyes glinting in excitement. I guess she got a little too far with her imagination.
"Magical touch?" I raised a brow in amusement
"No way in hell am I letting you ruin your moment with Jake with your horrible makeup skills." She shuddered, possibly remembering the time when I volunteered to do her makeup on her first date.
Yeah, that didn't turn out as expected. She kind of looked like Ursula from the little mermaids movie.
"Hey, that was one time!" I protested
"The poor guy looked like he saw a scarecrow." She raised a brow at me, challenging me to say otherwise.
"He wasn't that good looking anyway." I snorted, feeling the faint blush rising to my cheeks
"Yeah, you're right. But still, I'd rather die than let you do your makeup on this wonderful evening. Especially since I have a feeling that you're going to call it a night really late, if you know what I mean." She winked, smirking when she noticed my burning cheeks.
"Don't let your thoughts take you too far, Mia. It's just a date, nothing more." I stressed
"Whatever floats your boat babe." She chuckled, that annoying smirk of hers widening
Mia's beam spread from ear to ear. I thought her face will crack any minute now. Without even taking a look at myself, I can tell that she put all her heart in making me look spectacular
"Turn around."
I did as I was told and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My breath hitched as I took in the girl staring back at me –she looked stunning
"I should really think of this as a career." Mia folded her arms over her chest, admiring the piece of perfection she just did
"You should." I smiled, running a hand down the waves of my silky black hair
The knee length black dress I wore hugged my body in the right places. It was an off the shoulder bodycon black dress, a mid –thigh slit adding to its elegance.
I pulled my hair aside as Mia clasped the necklace around my neck
"Time to make Jake swoon." Mia winked tapping the rose watch on her wrist
That's right, time to make Jake swoon
