Chapter 74
Maxwell's POV
"So, you love her right?" I looked up to see Kenneth looking down at me with hooded eyes.
"Yes." I sighed rubbing my temples
"So what're you going to do? I mean, surely you know that you can never be together after the war right?" I nodded indolently
I knew that we can never get together after this, no need to remind me Kenneth
"I don't know"
Or maybe I did
"Maxwell, no!" Kenneth's voice turned even more serious than before and I instantly figured out that he read my mind
"It's the only thing I can do Kenneth, I love her like I've never loved anyone before and I am not letting her go. I need to do this, it's the only way." I stood up.
"What do you mean it's the only way Maxwell? There are a lo-"
"Then please tell me how cause I'll be more than glad to get help." I retorted angrily. Silence echoed through the room and both of us didn't say a thing
"Think Maxwell, think before you make that step." He pleaded and I shook my head.
"I already did," was my reply before walking out of the room.
Claudia's POV
"Mark, are you sure you can fight the entire demon kingdom including the death demons alone?" King Matthew, Westley's father asked. My eyes wandered from King Matthew' seated form to my Uncle's. He was looking at King Matthew with a serious expression though I could see gratitude in his eyes
"Like I've told you a dozen times before, this is our war Matthew, no one should intrude," came my Uncle's reply. I looked down and played with my fingers. I didn't really understand why the other kings want to help us with the war, actually, why do they even want to join the war in the first place
Yes, you heard it right, kings. Not only was Westley's father here but Benson's as well. All of the things that were being discussed in the upcoming war between the demons and witches. Both, the king of Angels and the king of Werewolves were trying to convince my uncle that they could join war alongside witches. Of course having all three kings over meant being in the secret chamber so technically no one from the outside could hear a thing.
Most might wonder why a secret chamber. It was because no one knew that the kings were here except for me, Westley, Benson's and the kings' most trusted men. My uncle explained that since we were going through war, no one should know what was happening in the castle. So I just sat there listening to them discuss war without saying a word.
Because I didn't want this war to happen in the first place. Everything was working out well until king Mason, Maxwell's father decided to start a war because he wanted to wipe me out of existence, that was what Maxwell had told me anyways. He had told me how King Mason was afraid that I would get rid of the darkness (meaning demons), at least that was what the prophecy said.
My foul mood turned a bit better when I thought of Maxwell. He didn't want the war to happen either, he had even told me about his dad's plans. My mind went to what had happened a week ago and I instantly smiled.
I stood there, staring at him with a small grin on my face. Oh my gosh, he actually said that he loves me! I took a step forward till we were chest to chest, well almost. The guy was a giant, I would probably look like a dwarf in front of him.
"Can you repeat that?" I said teasingly. Maxwell didn't reply, he actually looked away acting like he didn't know what was happening but the smile never left my face, it actually widened.
"I don't know, I think I heard something along the lines of, I like you? Oh yeah, I duv you! Or was it I hug you?" I put a hand under my chin and pretended to think about it. Maxwell groaned with a slight annoyance towards himself.
"Please do tell what you said, I didn't hear it quite right." I tried my hardest not to laugh at his scrunched up face, he looked funny. When he still didn't reply I sighed dramatically.
"Maxwell, I'm waiting…" I sang making him groan again. I was pretty sure he was getting uncomfortable with me teasing him, especially about what he said earlier. Part of me was begging to stop all this teasing and tell him I love you too, but the other part was really enjoying it.
"Claudia, drop it." He pleaded looking at me with desperate eyes but I knew better. Nu-uh, I was never going to drop it. When he saw that I wouldn't let it go, he made a move to leave but I was faster than him. I shoved myself in his face smirking.
"Too bad big boy, cause I love you too."
I still remember the expression on his face, it was priceless. He had looked so shocked but at the same time happy. We had spent the night in his room, talking about what was about to come. It had been after two hours when I had stepped out of Maxwell's dorm… with a smile on my face. Of course I had been kind of sad that Maxwell would be leaving. Actually I had been very sad but Maxwell had said that he would try to call me when I was alone and of course, no one should know since that would be considered traitorous.
When I entered my room, I saw Clara sitting on my bed. She quickly looked up when she heard me coming in and tried to cover the sadness by offering me a smile. I knew what was coming, her saying that she would have to leave and… yeah. I sighed and sat next to her giving her a smile of my own.
"I guess you heard right?" She squared her
"It was only a couple of hours ago that I knew."
"This sucks." I nearly laughed at the way she described the situation.
"Yeah, I know"
"You know I'm gonna miss you right?" She interrupted. I looked at her, softening my gown.
"Me too Clara." I was surprised when Clara engulfed me in a hug but returned.
"You're like a sister to me Claudia." I pulled back getting teary eyes.
"I mean, what if"
"Clara, stop with the what ifs, we will call each other every day and talk. It's that simple and that easy." I tried to calm her down before she started with her rant again
She sighed and nodded murmuring, "You're right"
"Claudia, are you hearing me?" I looked up to see my uncle staring at me with a raised eyebrows.
"Um, yes." My uncle narrowed his eyes at me but didn't press the subject.
I exited the chamber that the kings were in and walked to mine. The kings had left the castle through a portal, the same way they got here. Since their meeting had been conducted secretly, the kings couldn't have shown themselves here.
That had been another reason why I couldn't talk to Westley and Benson, because no one could know that they had been here, in the castle. It had been kind of frustrating actually, having your friends right in front of you and not being able to talk to them, though, I think Benson and Westley i both had an idea of what Maxwell admitted last week.
Benson couldn't wipe that annoying smile of his face. When no one had been looking, he would send a big grin my way and would wiggle his eye brows at me. Yup, he definitely knew something. As for Westley, I had a feeling he knew something.
How?
