Chapter 86
Claudia's POV
One was a multi-colored floral dress and the other was a knee length black dress with a blue waist ribbon surrounding it. I looked from the floral to the blue dress and smiled as I decided which one's better, floral it is.
I got out of the room and watched Maxwell as he stood in front of the mirror and fixed his tie. Crossing my arms, I leaned against the wall and watched him with a small smile on my face. Memories flooded into my mind about the day Maxwell had proposed to me.
I looked at myself in the mirror, admiring the polka doted dress I wore and twirled around loving the way I looked. Maxwell and I were going to have a small dinner in Maxwell's castle and I was excited about it. I really don't know why because we've had personal dinners many times before but I couldn't help but feel like something was going to happen today, something good.
A butler accompanied me to the garden where a table and two chairs were covered by white linen. They were set in the middle surrounded by dozens of lilies and jasmines. My eyes wandered to Maxwell who had his back facing me. He was a few feet away staring at the path that lead to the river. He must have heard my footsteps since he turned around.
I blushed as I saw him look me up from head to toe but when his eyes lingered on my lips, my cheeks grew even warmer. Maxwell took a few steps forward, taking my hand in his and being the gentleman he is, he pulled the chair behind allowing me to sign.
Just as we finished dinner, Maxwell took my hand and led me down the garden. We kept on walking and from time to time, I would catch Maxwell looking at his clock for some strange reason. I found it weird. We finally reached a spot that was surrounded by roses. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Maxwell blow out a big breakfast.
"Claudia, I need to tell you something
I turned to him confused but didn't say a word.
"I knew we had a rough beginning, mainly because I was a complete jerk. We hated each other but that hate soon turned into love and I'm more than happy that it did. You turned my life upside down, showed me that love truly exists." He looked into my eyes and all I could see was love. I closed my eyes as he caressed my cheek but opened them again with a smile on my face as he began talking again.
"Never have I believed that I would fall in love with a woman, but you proved me wrong." He gave me a small smile which I returned with my own. I wanted to know where Maxwell was going with this, only if he – The sound of a plane made me look upwards and I gasped at what I saw.
There, up in the sky and in huge and cloudy letter was written;
'Will you Marry me?'
My eyes wandered to Maxwell whom I expected to be standing in front of me, but instead, he was kneeling on the floor holding a violet box in his hand and in it was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.
"Claudia White, will you do the honor of being my wife.
"What are you thinking of?" I looked at Maxwell and shook my head, a smile on my face. I walked up in front of him and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"Of the time you proposed." A grin took over Maxwell's face as he wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me closer.
"It was a romantic proposal wasn't it?"
"Hmm." Instead of answering, I pressed my lips but my bliss couldn't continue could it
"Mommy, Auntie Clara and Uncle West are – Ew!" Maxwell and I pulled away only to find Alex covering his eyes with his tiny hands.
"Are you done yet?" His hands were still on his eyes and I could already see him grimacing. I laughed at that and took my baby boy into my arms. Alex is my four year old son and one of the best gifts I've ever been given. He was an intelligent kid for his age and you could immediately see the similarities and common features between Maxwell and him.
Alex was a spitting image of his father; black hair, silver eyes … I was pretty sure that when he was going to grow up, he would be a heartbreaker. Alex removed his hands from his eyes and scowled.
"Why do you keep on kissing? It's gross! Dad, don't you know that girls have cooties?!" He turned to his father who only laughed.
"I know buddy, I know. I just do that so your mother doesn't get mad." He ruffled his hair making Alex giggle. I narrowed my eyes at Maxwell and put Alex on the ground.
"Excuse me?!" I put my hand on my hips and glared at Maxwell who was smirking
"You know I was joking. Now, stop being a drama queen and let's go, we have guests to meet." He offered his hand, an amused look on his face. I rolled my eyes and put my hands in his while thinking of one thing, I am not a drama queen!
"Oh, look at Jack! He's all grown up now." I kissed his cheek staring down at the four and a half year old in front of me. The little boy grinned, puffin up his chest in pride. I looked up at Benson and saw him smiling at his little boy. My eyes went back to Jack and saw him staring up at me with his big brown eyes. Jace was a copy of his father; his face, his actions, his personality… Benson. The only difference between them was the color of their eyes. While Benson's are green, Jack's are a deep shade of chocolate brown.
"Unbelievable, he gets all the attention while I get nothing." My eyes wandered to Joel who had his arms crossed. When Benson found his mate, which wasn't long after the war ended, he wasted no time in starting to make babies. Of course, that was ten years ago. Now, Joel is ten years old and I could already feel that he'll have girl swooning over him when he grows up.
"Jealous much?" Fiona's voice echoed through the room.
