Chapter 30
Jake's POV
I drummed my fingers on the desk waiting for Mark to return. We waited anxiously, the tick of the clock feeling like years instead of just minutes.
Crest had a hand placed under his chin, sweat drippling from his forehead as he looked very deep in thought, his eyes focused on the floor. I gazed back at the screen of my phone and smiled sadly looking at the selfie Lola and I took on our first date.
We looked so carefree, so happy. I was hugging her closely, my hand draped over her shoulder with both of us smiling at the camera. Out of all our pictures, this was my favorite. That same day meant the opening of a new page, void of any people coming in between us.
I knew that going through our pictures would only make me feel more and more miserable. With that said, it was literally like my heart being snatched and crushed for it clenches every time at the thought of her kidnapped.
I let out a sigh pressing two fingers between my eyes and closed them, my mind wandering off to Mark. Why is he late? It has been an hour since I sent him to check the area around the waterfall.
When I caught the necklace on the ground, I sprinted full at full speed to the castle again. As soon as I got there and showed Crest Lola's necklace, he began barking orders at the generals to send out patrol groups, but I opposed that idea and even Greg agreed to that. The fiare aren't that stupid to not spread men around the place they're at, so those groups won't go unnoticed.
We needed one person only, a professional tracker and Mark was the first in mind – the best of the best. He knew the area like the back of his hand, not to mention his pro skills in tracking and tracing.
He was more than happy to go on this mission, wanting nothing more than to find the place where his best friend is held captive. We agreed that the sole reason of this task is to find their location. Any faults on Mark's parts such as knocking down the door or killing one of them will lead us back to ground zero.
"It's been over an hour." I slumped against the seat, running a hand through my hair. It's nerve-wracking, waiting while holding on the line of hope, a hope that might remain or die.
"If Mark took that much time, this means that they are hiding farther than we expected." Crest broke from his trail of thoughts, raising his head so that he was now staring at me.
I still don't understand how could he appear as solid as a rock in the midst of our current situation. Not only is he carrying the burden of his kingdom during this tough time, but he's also experiencing the internal struggle of having his daughter kidnapped and knowing that there's a possibility of her getting harmed.
Yet he made his strength his weapon and that made me respect him even more.
Just thinking of the amount of pressure Crest is under had me feel a pang of distress. It's not easy, not at all and I wished that if someday I were to be in his place, I would have the enough strength and courage to endure this much pressure.
We fell into silence, the two of us engrossed in our own thoughts and it was until we heard a knock on the door that I jumped on my feet, hurriedly walking to open the door.
Mark stood in front of me, tall and proud with a sloppy grin on his face. My heart felt at ease, shoulders relaxing and my whole demeanor changed as I breathed out a sigh of relief.
He didn't need to say anything for I already knew what he was holding back.
"I found them." He said, his grin growing even wider. It was all he needed to say to make the darkness creeping into my soul turn into light.
"Let's get ready to kick some ass and return Lola back." He slapped me on the shoulder before stepping in. It was way too soon to let my emotions surveil but I couldn't help myself. We found out where their hiding place and I'm not wasting any time in getting my sweetheart back.
Lola's POV
The slam of metal jolted me up from sleep and I groaned at the immediate headache pulsing in my head. Can someone sleep without getting disturbed? Not that the sleep was comfortable, not in the slightest, but I needed the rest.
Hearing footsteps nearing, I sat up straight waiting for my guest to arrive. I could distinguish that it was more than one person and by the click of heels I directly knew that Vera was one of them.
Why are they here?
To drain the hell out of you, my subconscious replied.
They drew closer until they were right in front of the cell, and just as I thought that it was only Luke and Vera, I was surprised to see Kelvin and another man standing behind him. My suspicions grew by the second seeing the joy on Luke's face.
Not to mention Vera's too evident smirk.
They were up to something, and that guard being there only confirmed my suspicions. Kelvin stepped forward, unlocking the metal door and leaving it wide for Luke and Vera to enter.
"Rise and shine, princess. Today is a very wonderful day." He stood tall and confident, his shoulders wide as he came closer with Vera just behind him.
Something's not right, I can tell. But honestly, when was something ever right? My life is built on bad luck. I would say that it's karma's way of being a bitch but I haven't hurt anyone for it to back fire at me.
"I bet Vera gave you a good fūck this morning for it becoming wonderful." I smiled humorlessly, unable to contain my anger any longer. I hated the way he showed up here being all bubbly and fun, enjoying the fact that he's going to suck me dry of my power.
"You won't be having that much guts when I chain you up and take that power of yours." My smile instantly dropped, and my body was taken over with nervousnes. Vera looked like she was having the time of her life watching me squirm in my place.
"You can regain your rightful place in a peaceful way Luke." I reasoned, keeping my voice steady even though I'm scared shitless from the inside.
"Now where's the fun in that?" His eyes lit in amusement. Besides him, Kelvin snorted and rolled his eyes as if saying to himself how stupid my suggestion was. But I had to plant some kind of doubt in his head to stop him from reaching his aim.
"And where's the fun in killing thousands of lives? The kings won't give you their land on a silver platter, and the people will not stand with their arms crossed waiting for you to attack. They'll fight till the last drop of blood. Look around you Luke, you don't even have an army and you're hiding in a cottage in the middle of the forest. The power you want from me won't help you that much either." I fought with logic.
Honestly, I wasn't sure if all that I'm saying was correct since even I don't know what exactly can this element of mine do. I wondered if it was even there in the first place. How can a person possess an element he cannot use?
But what I was sure of was that the kings will most definitely not accept Silas with open arms. They're not dumb to not know that he's planning to conquer the supernatural world and get rid of the royals.
"Oh but that's were you're wrong princess. I may not have an army but once I take your power I'll be able to wipe out entire armies. Don't underestimate gravity dear Lola, there's a reason why only one person can control it." He said, grinning like a cashmere cat.
"But why let innocent people pay the price of our ancestors' mistakes?" I breathed out, that spark of hope I felt dwindling and dwindling.
"Because if time repeats itself, they would've done the same thing, killing our kind with cold blood." I gulped staring into his eyes that have now turned red.
This man is insane.
"Kelvin." He ushered.
My breath hitched as I looked at the white headed male stalking towards me having a predator expression plastered on his face.
"Stay away." I warned.
I expected Kelvin to man handle me like he usually does, but he stayed in his place unmoving. I felt something sting itself like a bee on my arm and looking down, I gasped in horror seeing a needle dug into the skin of my arm.
"What the hell." I staggered backwards suddenly feeling lightheaded.
"It's time princess. Gravity will be mine." I fell onto the ground, everything becoming a blur and closed my eyes surrendering to the poison spreading into my body.
My hands were tied. I couldn't move. I was held above the ground with something keeping me in place. I opened my eyes, only to find myself chained against a wall.
Sitting a few meters away from me was Luke, gazing at me with an unreadable expression, his arms folded over his chest. The chains rattled when I moved, thinking I could free myself from the metal grooved into the wall.
"What is this?" I asked, staring at the white circle drown on the wall I'm held against. It was drawn all around my figure with several symbols I have never come across.
"It's an ancient technique to transfer elements from one being to another, mainly used by our kind as a way of punishment." He spoke tonelessly, his eyes cold as ice.
"Let me go Luke. Please don't do this." I pleaded, my eyes begging him to back down from his choice.
He chuckled darkly and shook his head before standing up and in a flash he was in front of me. I yelped, my eyes going wide in fear seeing the menacing smile spread on his face.
I hastily looked around me as he began chanting words in a language I don't know, the circle drown around me glowing a bright white. I fought against the chains, and the circle as if melting, the trails of white liquid from all around coming towards me.
I screamed in pain, my head hitting the wall feeling burning sensations in my body. I was suffocating, my body on fire. I thrashed and thrashed, the pain being so unbearable.
I knew this was it, I was getting drained and my soul felt like it was being separated from my body.
But then it stopped.
The burning stopped, the pain faded.
"What do you mean they found us?!" His voice boomed. I couldn't raise my head to look at who he's talking too but I'm pretty sure it was Kelvin.
"They found us and they're coming. We should get ready." That was definitely Kelvin.
"Fūck this is not happening!" Luke screamed and I heard the slam of metal.
"Take off the chains Kelvin but keep her in the cell. I'm not done with her yet." I groaned when his arms wrapped around my waist, unchaining me and laying me on the ground.
I couldn't even open my eyes, too tired to even blink.
"Let's go."
Though in my state I smiled, Jake's face appearing in my head.
They found me.
They didn't give up.
