Chapter 79
Claudia's POV
And I was right, Maxwell grabbed my elbow and turned me around pulling me to his chest. I tried pushing him away, to show that I was 'mad' at him but he was stronger than I was. I looked up and saw that he had regret plastered on his face. I bit back a smile; Aw, he's feeling guilty
"I was kidding Claudia".
"I know you were." Maxwell grabbed my shoulders and pushed me away, disbelief written all over his face
"You tricked me." He tried to sound mad but failed miserably. I grinned but tsked him
"Me, tricked you? Never." I put the back of my hand on my forehead and sighed dramatically. Maxwell rolled his eyes at me but smirked either way.
"I know, I know, I'm an amazing-
Suddenly, I was pulled forward and lips were pressed against mine. I gasped in surprise and Maxwell took advantage of that and thrust his tongue into my mouth. Our tongues battled for dominance and I could already sense that Maxwell was growing impatient. Both of our tongues fought to take over, but of course, Maxwell won at the end. His grip on my waist tightened as he deepened the kiss. Saying that the kiss felt good was an absolute lie, it was heaven!
Maxwell's hands trailed down from my waist, to my hips. He pulled me upwards and I shrieked in surprise, wrapping my legs around his waist. I was about to scold him for what he did but his lips were too fast. I moaned and ran my hands over his chest. My eyes widened when I remembered that I had to get dressed for the war.
"Maxwell, we have to stop." I hated what I said but I knew I had to before my uncle himself, would come up and give me a piece of his mind. Maxwell's hands loosened on my hips and I stood up fixing my shirt. Maxwell groaned with his eyes closed. When he opened them, I noticed that his eyes grew darker and were filled with… lust.
I mentally smirked, so hotshot's turned on… hmm, interesting.
"Right, we have to stop." I raised an eyebrow,
"Before I do something we both might regret." He smirked making me roll my eyes. Why are all guys such perverts? Someone please answer me! So, before we went all lovey dovey on each other, Maxwell started shooting questions the minute we entered my room.
I mentally grinned, he was like 'why weren't you talking to me?!' and all of that blah blah blah. I just stood there hearing him scolding me before I got fed up with his 'I thought you were mad at me' and shit so I did the next best thing, I shut him up with a kiss. Let's just say it was enough to make him forget what he was talking about.
Maxwell sat on my bed while I entered my walk in closet and took out the clothes I was supposed to wear. The skinny leather pants and the short sleeved black top. They looked like ordinary clothes but they weren't, they were fire resistant. My uncle said that if the demons shoot fire in my direction and I got hit, I wouldn't get burned, the fire resistant layer would. I got dressed and walked out of the closet to find Maxwell in the same position as he was but with his head in his hands. What's wrong with him? I frowned feeling a little worried.
"Maxwell? Are you okay?" That was probably a dumb question because he obviously wasn't okay. I sat next to him and put a hand on his back. He sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He sent me a small smile trying to comfort me but it didn't reach his eyes
"C'mon, they're waiting for us down there, we have to get going." He stood up and offered me his hand which I gladly took. Both of us exited my room and I knew that once we leave the castle, it would be a life or death matter.
We were close to Thaldin, it wouldn't take a lot of time to reach it. My uncle was at the front riding a white horse. I was behind, riding a snow white horse like my uncle. My horse's hair was white and braided. The horses' legs were surrounded with white flame and with each step they took, the grass under us turned greener and looked healthier.
All of my uncle's strongest men were walking next to me and the rest of the army was behind us. Maxwell was behind our army, at the end. Why? Because he was our element of surprise as my uncle said. I still didn't know how Maxwell's would turn his father's people against their king but I believed in him, and I believed that we would succeed. My uncle stopped, making us all stand in our places. I looked forward, knowing why he stopped. The demon army was already there and in front of them was Mason, Maxwell's father. Unlike us, he was riding a black horse. The thing that triggered my attention the most was that the horse's hair was made out of flames, real flames. Its legs were surrounded with fire as well.
Behind Mason were his soldiers. They were all dressed in black clothing and hard metal wrapped along their waist line up to their shoulders. Fear crept into me when I saw what was behind the soldiers. I couldn't see their faces, they were covered in black coating from head to toe but I could smell evilness coming from them from a mile away. They must be the Death Demons.
I couldn't see my uncle's face since he was in front of me but I was pretty sure that he looked confident; after all, we have Maxwell on our side.
"So, you brought your little witch with you, how sweet." The way he looked at me with such wickedness made me grimace
"Mason, this is your last chance to depart." My uncle stated ignoring his statement.
"Why should I? I clearly overpower you in this crusade so what do you have to overpower me?" I glared at him hard. I was about to reply at him when someone interjected.
"They have me." Everyone turned sideways and stared at Maxwell who was coming my way on a chocolate brown horse. He had his eyes narrowed at his father and looked as confident as ever. I turned to look at king Mason and smirked. His shocked expression turned to fury
"What are you doing Maxwell?!" His voice was as sharp as thunder
"I'm doing what I should have done a while ago." He passed me and stood a few feet away, on his horse, between both of the armies.
"Demons, do you want to continue being under an unjust power? Do you want to continue staying in the darkness? Wake up already and look around you, do you want your families to live under an unjust ruling?!"
The soldiers started looking at each other and some even nodded. Hope fluttered in my heart, this might actually work!
"Join me, join us. Demons and witches can finally live together, in peace. Make your choice, choose which path you will take. Stay in darkness or stand next to us to fight the darkness." We waited, waited for anyone to make a move and stand next to us but the hope was slowly dying when seconds passed and no one took our side. I looked at Maxwell then at the ground, why is this happening?
I looked up when I heard someone say 'thank God'. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw demons appearing next to us. My smile grew when half of the soldiers crossed over our side. The look on king Mason's face was menacing and I smirked.
"Traitors!" He bellowed and the next thing I know, a wave of fire was coming in our direction.
