Chapter 12- Jacen

I accelerated my car, trying to get to the park as fast as I can. Liam in the seat next to me. “when was the last time you been to the coliseum?” he asked me. “its been a while. The entrance to get in for an outsider is pretty hefty.” I gruffed. “that’s right, that weird looking Fae guy is the one who smuggles you in. he tends to ask for weird stuff.” Ugh Fae. I do not like the Fae; they are shifty little bastards. They follow their own rules, they cannot lie, and they do not say things straight forward. They will trick you if given the chance. I try to avoid making deals with them.
I looked up at the sky, “it has to of already started by now.” I know she would be safe; they would never hurt her. But I knew my brother was hellbent on getting her back and I just wanted to make sure he did not turn her. As a powerful witch she was better as an ally then an enemy.
I looked over to Liam, he had his head leaned against the window, looking up at the night sky. He looked sad, like he had lost his puppy. “oh, cheer up man, your sad over a girl you don’t even know? How pathetic.” I said knowing it would rile him up. He sat straight up and narrowed his eyes at me, “I will kill you” I waved my hand at him “yeah, yeah.” I can not die so his empty threats mean nothing to me. I pulled into the park and we used our vampire speed to get to the tree.
As kids we came on occasions when a new high priestess would be chosen. Without witch blood, the portal would not open. Unless you were a strong Fae, they had the power to open it without witch blood. Just as predicted a weird looking Fae stepped behind the tree. He was tall and skinny, he had lime green hair. He had smooth skin and his outfit was clearly not from earth. Must be Fae fashion. It was hideous.
“I almost did not come tonight, figured no one special would attend. But I am glad I did.” He sounded ecstatic. He rubbed his hands together. “so, boys, want to know the cost of two tickets is?” clearly, we did, or we wouldn’t be here. “cut the crap, what do you want.” Liam said. The Fae narrowed his eyes at Liam. “I want nothing from you, you’re a miserable man with nothing to offer.” He then turned to me. “I want your first child.” He said. I laughed. Vampire can not have children he knew this right? “That is steep. Throw in a ticket for my miserable brother and we got a deal.” I said holding out my hand to shake. He gruffed. “fine” and he shook my hand. My hand tingled as the deal was sealed.
The Fae put his hand on the tree and a purple portal opened and we stepped through. We walked until we saw the coliseum, it has been at least 4,000 years since we had been here. Time had not been good to it. I remember back in its heyday, it was amazing. Plants flourished, life and magic bounced off the walls. Everyone here was so different. I had heard rumors over the years that the place had wore down and lost its magic touch. The contenders now all look and do the same routine. I never imagined it would look so dead and lifeless. As we stepped through the coliseum entrance, we found ourselves some seats. The place was full of witches of all ages they all looked, bored?
I looked at the girl on stage and she was doing the traditional routine that they have for thousands of years. I looked and saw in the judge’s box three Wardwell witches. Not just any Wardwell witches, Judd was lead of the household. He was known for his ruthlessness. He wasn’t usually a kind man. His wife Elenore sat next to him. She wore pink, but we all know better she would slit your throat then offer your children pancakes. Evil lady. And the man next to him was Dakota, he used to have a twin named Ava that died years ago. It was said that the Dragon Queen killed her and her newborn baby years ago. But there was never any proof of it.
“The 10th contestant please step forward.” Judd said. As she did, she held her head up high, she looked confident, but I could hear her heartbeat and it sounded like it was about to explode. She was nervous under that black painted mask. She strolled to the middle of the of the coliseum.
She grabbed the microphone that was on the stand. “hello, my name is Chloe. I understand we usually do the traditional routine that has always been done. But I was born to stand out, not to fit in. so I will be showing you something new.” She bowed her head and took a step back. The crowed gasped. Some started sitting up straight something exciting was finally about to happen.
She lifted her arms up, and as she did water surrounded her. I could no longer see her, just the tall water. When it came back down, she was in black dress, it had a slit up her left leg. The black was off her face, she looked beautiful. The crowed gasped. It was unusual to see a contender not in traditional robes. Her eyes met mine and she flashed me a huge smile. She started jogging along the stadium walls, and as she did water flowed from them like waterfalls, when she did a whole lap around it. she flicked her hand and they started changing different colors like a water light show.
It was then that she flicked her hands again and all the water froze to solid ice. This got a lot of gasps. It wasn’t unusual to hear of a witch having a nature element. But to have more than one and one of them being ice was unheard of. She stood in the middle of the stadium; I heard a small giggle as she started spinning in a circle. As she did magic pulsated from her. I felt it, and I know everyone else did as well. She filled the air with magic. As the magic pulsated through the air and hit the walls, it started to seal and fix the cracks. Broken parts of the walls started to re appear. Like she was healing the building. The dead plants came back to life and started sprouting flowers again. Now it looked like it did when we were kids. Full of life and magic.
Something black started coming down from the top, what was that? wings? A huge bird? As it got closer, I could see that it was three dragons. I jumped up and started running to Chloe I had to get her out of there. As I did, I slammed into an invisible barrier. It threw me backwards onto my back. I lost my breath for a second. Standing up Liam was already next to me. I could see the fear in Chloe’s eyes. This is her first time ever standing before a dragon.
