Chapter 10: Have You Acknowledged Our Relationship?
A murmur among the classmates.
"Excuse me, I need to visit the restroom." Ursula hastily made an excuse to escape further questioning.
It wasn't until she made it to the sanctuary of the restroom that Ursula finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She had just entered the restroom when her wrist was unexpectedly seized. Dizzy from the whirl, her back pressed against the door panel as Matthew propped a hand near her head, his gaze somewhat frosty. "Did you block my number?"
"I might've hit it by accident," Ursula mumbled, attempted to move past him. Matthew, however, grabbed her hand firmly. "You blocked my number and deleted me from WeChat, Ursula? What do you take me for, a child?"
Ursula lifted her head, gazing deeply into the eyes she had been captivated by for years, and finally voiced the question she'd harbored for so long but dared not ask: "Matthew, do you like me?"
After her question emerged, she saw astonishment in Matthew's eyes as if her inquiry had caught him off guard.
Ursula watched Matthew's handsome brows furrow. After a moment, he spoke, "Ursula, we've been together so long, do you really need me to say it?"
But having been together so long, had he ever acknowledged their relationship?
Ursula felt a bitter sensation in her heart.
See, this man only calls her 'Ursula' in moments of passion, at any other time, it's her full name in a distant manner, colder than the way she addresses her fellow students.
"Matthew, I'm tired of this relationship," Ursula said assertively, pushing his hand away. "You can't give me a satisfying answer, and I don't like it anymore."
Matthew, a man of reason and calm, also excelled in the legal profession for such traits. In response to Ursula's words, he merely was silent for a moment, then said, "Fine, do as you wish."
He opened the door and walked out swiftly, as if he had never cared.
Ursula dragged her nearly stiff legs to the sink, turned on the faucet, and frantically splashed water on her face, looking up at her drenched but pale reflection in the mirror.
When she had asked the question, she was still hopelessly expecting that if Matthew confessed his feelings for her, she would go to great lengths for him, willing to trade a lifetime for a girlfriend's forgiveness. But he didn't, he was just taken aback.
What a cruel man he was, she had followed him for three years, and he never acknowledged her.
Indeed, she deserved it for liking him.
Three O’clock in the afternoon, the School Anniversary officially kicked off. Freshmen took to the stage with nice dances and marvelous magic tricks, eliciting cheers from their fellow students. The School Principal even made a speech during the lively event.
Dylan pulled both Matthew and Timothy over to his table, suggesting they join in on the fun since there were empty seats. The other students, seeing Dylan seated next to Matthew, understood and greeted them warmly.
Ursula smiled faintly, not looking at anyone in particular, as she concentrated on peeling her orange.
"Let me do that," Timothy said, taking the unpeeled orange from Ursula's hands. His beautiful hands stood out against the bright orange peel. "Peeling too many of these can stain your nails. I’ll do it, just eat."
Ursula didn't insist, simply nodding at him: "Thank you."
"What's there to thank me for?"
Timothy didn't want the atmosphere between them to be so stiff, so he started chatting with Ursula about some amusing stories from his time in England, which eventually had Ursula laughing. Their conversation flowed effortlessly as they leaned in close, sharing a warm, intimate moment.
Across from them, Matthew's gaze was fixed on Ursula, his facial expression was intense.
Matthew gave a noncommittal grunt and looked down, consuming a segment of the orange from Dylan's hand. Dylan, taken aback at the gesture, suddenly felt a sweet warmth inside, thinking that this man must still have affection for him, it was just that he was too stubborn to show it openly.
