Chapter 20: She Was His First

"Ah?" Ursula turned to look at Dylan, her voice was filled with surprise, "But haven't you two..."
After dating Matthew for five months, Dylan said she would bring him home. True enough, she showed up at school with Matthew the next day, then discreetly told Ursula that she and Matthew had slept together.

At that moment, Ursula's mind went blank, she felt a deep sadness and a sharp pang of jealousy.

Until later, when the drunk Matthew hugged her and called out Dylan's name, Ursula's heart was broken.

The man she loved so dearly belonged to her in no way at all.

"Actually... we didn't do it," Dylan hesitated before spilling the truth. "Who would have thought that my parents would come back unexpectedly? The walls in my house are thin, so Matthew and I didn't go through with it."

Ursula was caught off guard and after a long pause asked, "Then why did you..."

"I was afraid you'd make fun of me!" Dylan mumbled, sulking. "I told you I was going to get Matthew. If it didn't happen because my parents returned, wouldn't you die laughing at me?"

Ursula suddenly remembered the first time with Matthew, he was somewhat awkward, not knowing his own strength, causing her pain for two days. She'd assumed it was because he was drunk and hadn't thought much of it.

Was she Matthew's first?

The thought lifted her spirits up, and she couldn't help but laughing.

There wasn't much to be upset about, she reflected. The man didn't love her, but at least she was his first, and in their three years together, he had never involved himself with another woman.

Hearing Ursula's laughter, Dylan thought she was being mocked and became unhappy. "I knew you'd laugh at me. Ursula, that's not fair. If I'd known, I would have never told you!"

Ursula, tickled by her, burst into giggles and pleaded, "No, it's not like that. I'm not laughing at you, stop it!"

"You are laughing at me, because I'm useless, right?"

"No, hahaha, stop tickling!"

"Eh?" Dylan seemed to feel something and paused, surprised and curious. "Ursula, do you have a scar on your stomach? I felt it just now."

"No, there's nothing," Ursula pushed Dylan's hand away.

But Dylan was persistent. "There definitely is, I felt it." She even tried to turn on the bedside lamp, but Ursula had to grab her hand, and admit, "Yes, there is. I had surgery."

"You know, when I started working, my schedule was so irregular, and my meals were erratic. It got to the point where I was in so much pain I went to the hospital and found out I had appendicitis. I had surgery and had to lie in bed at home for a long time, surviving on plain porridge."

"I'm sorry," Dylan moved closer to embrace Ursula, saying apologetically, "I had a hard time abroad myself, so I didn't get in touch. I had no idea you went through."
"It's nothing!" Ursula laughed, "It's just appendicitis, not a big deal. Why are you so nervous?"

Dylan hummed, "That's right, it should be Timothy who’s worried for me, you don't need to be!"

The next morning, Ursula got up early to prepare breakfast. She made steamed buns from scratch, cooked a thick and fragrant rice porridge, and served it with delicious home style side dishes, a breakfast to envy even the best eateries in the big city.
