Chapter 18: Onions Bring Tears to the Eyes
Before she could speak, she quickly covered her mouth with her hand, instantly regretting her impulse.
Why did she say that?
Unexpectedly, Ursula's eyes met Matthew's, it seemed like he had something on his mind.
Instinctively, Ursula turned away. "Then, then you do it. I'll go wash the vegetables!" she said, and hurried off, not daring to stay another second.
At the farmhouse, they used an old stove that required firewood, which Timothy figured out after a brief study. He cooked alongside Ursula, said, "I can manage the fire. I can't let my girlfriend do all the hard work by herself."
With a smile on her lips, Ursula glanced outside where Matthew was scraping fish scales and Dylan squatted beside him, whispering something, then leaned in to kiss his cheek, a sweet gesture that made Ursula's eyes sting with jealousy.
Had Dylan not pleaded, that man probably wouldn't have cooked, right?
"Ouch!" Not paying attention, Ursula got onion juice in her eyes while chopping. She reflexively closed her eyes and called out, "Jingyan, get me a paper towel."
After waiting with no response, she couldn't help but call out louder, "Jingyan!"
As the sound of approaching footsteps grew closer, Ursula sensed Matthew's unique scent and panicked, instinctively stepping back, only to bump into a stool and tumble backward.
At the last moment, a hand firmly grasped her waist.
Feeling embarrassed, Ursula let him guide her to the sink where obediently she bowed her head, soon feeling him gently rinsing her eyes with water, his fingers softly massaging her eyelids.
"Feeling better?" His voice was always so deep, effortlessly resonating with one's heartstrings.
Ursula hastily pushed him away and wiped her eyes with her clothes, feigning calmness as she said, "I’m fine now, thank you."
"Ursula." Her reaction seemed to displease Matthew, his tone edgy as he reached out wanting to pull her back, but Ursula nimbly avoided him and hurriedly ran outside, as if she didn't want to exchange another word with him.
Watching her leaving, Matthew's expression gradually darkened, a hint of displeasure lurking in his heart.
The lavish lunch had Dylan exclaiming with delight. He took out his phone to snap a photo, proudly boasting, "Having a boyfriend who can cook this well definitely needs to be shown off!"
Timothy glanced at her, saying, "Most of this was made by my girlfriend, you know. How can you shamelessly take credit?"
"Why should I be ashamed?" Dylan rolled her eyes at him, said, "Timothy, let me remind you, Ursula was my girlfriend first, then yours! If you upset me, do you believe I could make you two break up?"
"Not at all, not at all," Timothy, seemingly afraid of her, smiled and begged for mercy. "Considering that I've been pursuing Ursula for years and we've finally gotten together, spare me this time, Queen of Scenery High. I admit my fault."
However, Matthew suddenly turned to Timothy and asked, "You've been pursuing Ursula for years?"
Ursula's heart skipped a beat, unsure of what Matthew was planning. She pulled Timothy's shirt. He turned to look at her, and with a smile, Ursula reached out and held her hand, "Yeah, it's quite the misunderstanding."
Matthew gave Ursula a look, his expression a mocking smile. "Is that so?"
