Chapter 12 Why Should She Still Remember Matthew?
"Yeah!" Ursula said with a laugh, teasingly adding, “You don't have a girlfriend, I don't have a boyfriend, isn't it perfect for best friends to get together? Plus, we know each other so well, there’s no awkwardness.”
Suddenly, Timothy stopped in his tracks and took Ursula's hand, startling her: “But I see in your eyes that you still like Matthew.”
“I…” Ursula forced a smile, not knowing what else to say, but Timothy opened his arms and enveloped her in his broad chest, “I like you, so I can ignore certain things.”
“I can give you time to forget about him, but remember, you're my girlfriend now. You can take your time to like me, but you can't be involved with him, or I’ll get jealous, is that okay?"
He was like a child who hadn't received candy, his tone tinged with a sense of grievance that made Ursula unable to suppress a laugh. She reached out and embraced him tightly, murmuring a soft acknowledgment even though, at this moment, she felt like crying.
Why should she continue to think of Matthew when such an outstanding man like this still adored her?
After saying goodbye to Timothy, Ursula had just gotten home when she received a call from Dylan, who chided her for leaving and excitedly announced, "Ursula, you know, Matthew and I are back together!"
Ursula responded with a measured "I know, I saw you two together."
"You don't understand, he's been so distant lately, I thought he'd reject me!" Dylan chuckled secretively. "The guy clearly still likes me, yet insisted on this kind of confession from me, so annoying!"
Dylan continued, "Did you leave with Timothy? How did your conversation go?"
"It was fine," said Ursula, feigning nonchalance, "I'm with Jingyan now; wish us luck!"
"Wow, that was quick!" Dylan exclaimed with unrestrained joy. "I don't care, you guys have to treat Matthew and me to dinner someday. Okay, gotta go, Matthew and I are heading back now."
"Alright, be careful on the road."
As the hasty beeping of the call ending buzzed in her ear, Ursula resisted the urge to smash her phone in irritation.
Why could Dylan mention Matthew with such natural affection?
Matthew was someone, a household name in the legal world. Three years ago, he founded his own law firm and handled hundreds of cases without a single loss, a standout among attorneys, young and ambitious, often in the media spotlight.
That morning, having taken Dylan to the law firm, news outlets erupted within three hours, and more intimate photos of the pair confirmed the journalists' speculations: the renowned Attorney Matthew finally had a girlfriend.
Facing the media, Dylan allowed photographs and cheerfully affirmed that she and Matthew were indeed romantically involved, having separated due to circumstances and now reconciled.
"Wow, I didn't expect they were each other's first love!" the Shop Assistant, Komatsu, was engrossed in the entertainment news and turned to ask Ursula, "Hey, Sister Ursula, did you ever have a first love?"
"Not really," Ursula replied, putting her phone down on the table, "Don't play with your phone during working hours and besides, this kind of entertainment news is boring."
"But I think Attorney Matthew is so handsome and successful. It's a shame, he's so devoted to his first love, reuniting after so many years. How come none of the good men seem to be our portion?"
Ursula just smiled and said nothing.
This is Dylan, and I suppose she wouldn't have been as honored, right? Otherwise, why would she have to sneak around with him for three years?
The next day, she woke up early, arranged a time with the moving company, and then called Timothy: "I have to move out, my lease is up. Can I stay at your place for a while?"
