Chapter Thirty Seven

I was terrified.

Tears flowed from my eyes like a river.

Constantine did not believe me. I just stood transfixed in a spot. I had lost my job and relationship. He was angry at me and he didn't give me a chance to explain

Why is this happening now my life was finally taking a nice turn.

I gathered the will to move. I packed the things I  had in the office in a box. I looked around my office one last time. I was definitely going to miss it. I opened the door with a heavy heart and stepped out. I entered the elevator and pressed the ground floor, when the elevator dinged and opened it took my feet a while to move out. I cleaned my eyes before stepping out.

Some people had left what they were doing and stared at me as I walked past with a box in my hand. I kept on walking and praying that nobody speaks to me and I can leave this building before I break down again.

"Eulalia" Samantha called out.

Why now? I dragged my feet faster

"Wait" she held me by my arms "Is everything fine? Where are you carrying a box to. Were you fired?  Look at me please" she begged lifting my chin up

I just stared into her eyes not uttering a word

"Have you been crying?" She asked

"No, no, everything is alright. Something just entered my eyes. I'll be gone for a while that's why I'm crying the box" my voice wavered at the end

"The boss walked upstairs angrily and only both of you stay on his floor. Did he say something hurtful to you? Please tell me"

"I need to go now. I'll talk to you later"

I walked out of the building and the first cab I saw, I stopped it. I told the driver where I lived and started crying again. I need to call Mandy, I brought out my phone with shaky hands and dialed her number. She picked up almost immediately.

"M-m-mandy, he.....he...broke up with me" I whispered

"Euli, I want you to take a deep breath and speak to me. I can barely hear you" I took a deep breath

"He broke up with me"

"Oh my, I'm so sorry baby. Where are you now, I'm coming to meet you"

"I'm going home now"

"I'll be right there" she hung up

I thought of my life so far, and I have been so happy. I promised myself I'm going to find this person and when I do, the person won't like to live again.

"We are here ma'am" the driver announced. I gave him a dollar bill. I entered my apartment and lay on the couch. I had just laid down when Mandy opened the door

"Oh, my baby. Come here" she engulfed me in a hug as she patted my back

"It's going to be okay, he's angry right now. He will come around when his temper has died down"

"No Mandy, he won't. You needed to see his face and hear him talk. I had never seen him that angry before, I don't think he's ever going to forgive me" I sobbed

"You need to stop crying and be strong. It has already happened and it was not your fault"

"It is my fault. Only if I had not been careless, we won't be right here now"

"Crying won't bring anything back, you need to get up and find the person behind this"

She was right. Wallowing won't bring back Constantine or those designs

"Mandy, he accused me of working with his rivals. He even asked if I loved him or if this was a joke to me. He said horrible things"

"Euli, you know Constantine loves you very much. When he realizes himself he will come back. Men always do. Let's go in and shower"

Mandy prepared a bath for us, we stripped off our clothes and entered the tub and we just remained there not saying a word.

"Peter and I fought" she broke the silence. I looked into her eyes for the first time today and I noticed they had a bit of sadness.

"He has been distant and when I tried talking to him, he just shoved it aside and said he was very busy. I just feel he no longer loves me and just wants to break up with me" she says sadly

"I'm sorry that I've not been attentive to you. I've been making you a part of my problems while you had your own. I'm so sorry" I squeezed her hands

"I'm sorry about Peter, you should talk to him maybe he's really stressed from work"

"I have something else to tell you"

"What?" Her head was down as she played with her fingers.

"You know you can tell me anything" I assured her

"I'm...... I'm..... pregnant"

"Oh my... Oh my goodness. I'm going to be an aunt" I said with a wide smile. This is the best news I've heard so far. "When did you find out?"

"I had been suspecting it for a while. I just confirmed it from the doctor yesterday"

"I'm so happy for you. Have you told Peter yet?"

"No, not yet"

"You need to tell him soon. He will be so happy"

"I'm scared to tell him. What if he doesn't want me again and he rejects the child"

I held her face so she can look at me

"Mandy, this baby was created by you and Peter's love. There is no way Peter won't want anything to do with you and this baby"

My phone rang and the ID showed Peter

"Look, it's him" I showed her the phone

"Hey Pete"

"Hi Euli, umm, I just wanted to know if Mandy is okay. We argued and I have not seen her since then"

"She's fine. She's in my house"

"I know she must have told you what happened. I really love your friend, I've just been stressed lately"

"You need to explain that to her and not me. Reassure her of your love"

"Okay. Thanks, Euli, I would be there tomorrow"

"Goodnight" I hung up

"He said he's coming tomorrow. You need to tell him"

"I will"

"Come let's dry ourselves. Everything is going to be alright"

"Thank you"
