Chapter 14
"Eat up, think of it as an apology since you look so tired. I really admire all the things you've been working on up to this point with your hard work and persistence. No other woman is as tough as you, Katherine. I really respect and admire you for doing all this."
Katherine didn't know who had sent it because there were some friends who had met her a few times and there were also some men who had secretly harbored feelings for her. But they hadn't seen each other in years so it was a bit unlikely that they had sent it to her.
"There is only one name but it seems unlikely that he would have done this. It's too old-fashioned to apologize and approach me by bribing me with food."
Katherine sighed, but then she decided to eat the food after sharing it with her mother. They could save on food because this way they would not have to cook and eat dinner anymore.
Scrolling through the screen and looking at all the things she could see to reference the tasks she was trying to develop, she had not slept even when night came. Katherine was actually very tired but she didn't have time to just mess around. She had gotten information from one of her friends that what she was currently trying to do was also being supported by many people.
On the beach there were still warning calls not to go there and every few minutes the helicopters of the country's and city's security team would fly over to make sure that no one was reckless enough to go to the beach.
The shaking that caused the destruction and collapse of some buildings here was from the sea. There is an earthquake, there is a large intangible shock, then finally the sea water will rise and create a slow tsunami that can cause the death of the person it is dragging.
If this continued it would only be a big problem so they could not mess around and had to use their time as seriously as possible.
"Katherine, move to your bed. You fell asleep here, your collar bone will hurt if you stay here."
I don't know at what time she was woken up by her mother and it made Katherine inevitably walk towards the bed. She was very tired but still got a warm rub of her mother's hand and a gentle peck on the forehead, like her mother deliberately did to keep her energized because the work and also the project was quite big and it had to be completed soon.
"Tomorrow I won't be in the office for the next two days, don't forget to cook some good food, Mom?"
Sonya smiled at that. "Yes, tomorrow I will cook a delicious meal for you."
Katherine actually fell asleep because she was so tired. She woke up quite a long time in the morning, her mother deliberately did not wake her up because her sleeping hours were really very messy the last few days. She was also very tired, so she didn't get up immediately and contemplated for a while on the bed.
It had been a month of research but nothing was fixed to run because everything was still trying to find everything that was better and made more sense. They seemed to be talking to time and it made Katherine feel tired but she knew that the results would be used by everyone and people would be grateful for their addition so she had to keep moving to save the lives of the humans in her city.
"I can't imagine how the children who will spend their time in trouble will feel. So I have to keep trying to get my hands on all of this and get a formula that can be used to preserve the lives and people of these cities."
Katherine got up from her sleep, walked towards the bathroom and cleaned herself up. After cleaning up and putting on some comfortable clothes, the girl grabbed her laptop and some supplies before heading downstairs. She used her time off to search and continue researching in order to get better and better results.
"Ah are you awake? Let's eat, mom purposely didn't wake you up and made a delicious meal for you this morning. Your favorite spicy rib soup is ready, you should eat so that you are more energized and have the enthusiasm to do and find the best formula formula that you can use to save human lives."
Katherine smiled and sat on the dining chair. She seemed to be eating the food while talking to her mother. It was not only the citizens that she wanted to save but her mother as well and her own life to survive. Other than the weather and the like they did not have any difficulties even when it came to eating. That's why now they can enjoy eating delicious food like this without any effort even though most of them prefer to save money because when a disaster like that comes they have a handle so that they are not so displaced until the help from the government comes.
"Don't you get tired of living in the ruins of a city like this?"
Sonya smiled at her daughter's question. "I'm actually afraid, not bored. But life will still end at that time without any change so I will just live my life calmly and enjoy it so as not to make you worry. We've been destined to live here and it may only be used to volunteer. At least we've done what God likes which is helping people who are struggling so all of this actually has a bit of a beneficial reciprocity," Sonya said making Katherine smile.
"So if I were to take mom to another city to live if there was to be a city that would accept us, what would happen? The city here will remain hot and irreparable, the government eventually opened up expansion by destroying some of those outlying places. If there was a place we could live in and it was only owned by the chosen ones, would you be willing to move?"
Sonya smiled and shook her head. "Mom is here, your father's grave is also here, we can't possibly leave her. Besides, it's impossible because our country is already limited and can no longer open up new areas. We can't possibly colonize another country that's as densely populated as ours would we? Earth is already overpopulated, there are not many empty places.
"Moreover, if only the chosen people will get it, I would rather not go even though it might be the chosen people through you. I will still stay here because life only comes to two things, success or death. We will still die and it makes no difference here or there."
Katherine smiled and sighed softly. Sometimes she wondered where her heroic attitude came from but she now knew that it was her mother who had that kind of attitude so she got a bit of it.
Besides, her question just now was just a question that would not necessarily get the truth one day. She had lived here for many years and there was no sign of anyone succeeding in finding the formula. No one had managed to change the earth for the better even when they tried to plant flowers to counteract the heat a little.
Katherine could only hope that she and her team managed to obtain the disaster-proof house. So that their lives can be said to be better even though it feels a little absurd because in the midst of hot weather and massive climate destruction.
