Chapter 18

"You went home with Elano?"

Katherine just nodded at her mother's question.

"Why is that? You said you had nothing to do with him anymore? You were the one who told mom about it so why are you going home with him now?"

Katherine knew that her mother had always seen her as a child to be proud of. She had never seen her lie or marry a promise but now that she was doing it, her mother had to wonder and Katherine had to explain it clearly so that there would be no misunderstanding.

"He's a wealthy businessman who loves science and technology and experiments. So he deliberately came here to join our program and he said he wanted to broaden his horizons. He didn't tell me anything beforehand so I didn't know, today because we were returning from the same project so he deliberately drove me to the front of the house. But I will still keep my distance from him because I don't know him and his sudden entry into our program and research project indicates that he wants something because it is impossible for him to become an investor if there is no profit he can get."

Sonya was silent but then nodded in understanding because as a citizen of this country, she certainly knew what professors or experts could do and not do. However, hiding the truth is not easy, especially for those who have high positions they have to think many times before doing something they want.

"So you're being careful with him now?"

Katherine sighed. "That's more or less it, I don't easily get along with other people who suddenly enter the realm of law for no apparent reason or without a request from the country that sent them. Times are getting more and more sophisticated, ma'am, but trust is easily broken by irresponsible people. My duty isn't done yet so I'm not going to carelessly make any trouble and quit this world. I just want to get one or two things that can help other humans, at least let that be what makes everything better and there is no change in it," Katherine said making Sonya nod.

Sonya knew her daughter's thoughts were much more accurate than hers because her daughter was an expert professor and very smart. Maybe meeting new people is easy but earning people's trust is very difficult. They won't be able to get that if there are still people who want to get double benefits.

There were some cases that could not be resolved first and had quite fatal consequences, at least even though Sonya never attended and saw it happen but it was enough to make her not want her daughter to also get into the wrong company even though she was not sure Katherine would behave like that.

But being a single mother certainly wasn't easy for her, her daughter also lacked the love of a father figure and that was something that was very difficult for them to restore until now because Sonya never managed to be a father other than because she could make money and support Katherine to this extent.

It was only now after a few months too many years that Katherine was able to fulfill her dreams. She could just play and interact with the people around her, because of course she couldn't just do this randomly because she had to scrutinize the people who deserved to be her friends or not.

"Do you want to eat? Mom cooked your favorite food again."

Katherine smiled and nodded. She was actually very hungry but didn't want to show it in front of Elano until he assumed that she never ate at all. It would be a different story and that was not what her training called for because she had more things to do than that. Right now the only thing to talk about was that he was hungry and his mother was cooking his favorite food so he had gotten off the topic and decided to end the meeting talking about the quality wall paint they were testing.

"Then I'll eat first and continue this meeting later."

She smiled because she felt proud that her daughter could live this well and be this strong even without a father figure. It wasn't easy but it wasn't something that was easy to live with either. They really had to work hard and Katherine was great for being able to deal with it until now.

In the dining chair with her mother, she ate with gusto and all of this would be paid for by her own mother so she didn't have to feel embarrassed like the last few days she hadn't eaten at all. So she really wanted to enjoy her meal without a lot of babbling to explain to people.

"Well then, I'm done eating so I'll get back to work. I'm really tired too and I want to sleep so hopefully I'll be able to sleep well and won't be disturbed by anything. I want to sleep like I'm in a dream, with a beautiful atmosphere and a cozy place so that I can find peace."

Sonya smiled at that while looking at her face with a gentle gaze. "Go to sleep and rest, there's no need to do any work if you're not able to. Don't force yourself into this because you'll get sick yourself. If you are needed by them then they should also know that you have a schedule that you need to fulfill so that you don't fall. You have to know that everyone has abilities and you can't force your abilities if you're not capable," Sonya said making Katherine smile and nod.

"Okay, I think I'm really going to sleep. It's been a long time since I slept quickly because every night I have to do some complicated things. Hopefully after this I can get everything done."

Sonya smiled and agreed, looking at her daughter who was already walking away to her room. She was happy that Katherine was living well, but also a little sad that her daughter had to take on such a huge responsibility. As for how she was going to get it done, Sonya knew nothing about her daughter's world of work as she had not studied anything similar.

She could only pray and hope that her daughter would be able to get through all of this and live a normal life. A normal life was what they really wanted as they had been living in fear due to the endless damage and destruction of the earth.

"In the future, hopefully there will be no signs of damage here. It looks like it's holding up pretty well but it should be coated again soon so it can be stronger. It's quite tough for the size of the simple materials melted inside. We won't have any trouble finding materials since these are common, we just need to match them up again in the next few days so that it will be easier and more confident to use them for more permanent construction."

A few days after they tested it with various kinds of disasters and artificial earthquakes, the two functionally different house designs looked very sturdy and did not move at all. Even because the corners were aligned and there was a strong support inside, the ground moved and cracked as well and remained strong as they expected.

This building is great and the detection is also going well as said by the inventor, one of the professors among them. This material would definitely get better if perfected and they would perfect it before bringing it to the market to be used by all people in need.

"We meet again tomorrow on the last day of testing, once everything is completely stabilized we just need to add some building material strengthening agents and that's so we can speed up the time so we can make the building we expect. After this there will be no problems and everything will be back to normal. Not only do we need to adapt more and more to life outside the house, the ones inside the house won't matter so much anymore because we have it under control."

Katherine and her colleagues dispersed again after making sure everything was done. She took out the remote control to summon her flying car, before looking at Elano who was just about to approach her.

"I'm going home first, got a lot of work to do at home."

It was a very classic excuse that Katherine had always said to him to avoid him. Although what Katherine said might be true but there seemed to be no other more specific reason. It was just like Katherine was avoiding him and did not want to be close to him much.

"Why are you always so gloomy these days, sir?"

Elano sighed softly, took the coffee in front of him and drank it without any enthusiasm at all. Thinking about Katherine who always avoided him and how to get the girl close to him again was very difficult. He had indeed managed to win the Professors' trust but they also couldn't be that close since their houses were quite far from him. Right now he was close to Katherine and of course that was an advantage because she would want him to take her around for directions.

"She never told me that she was busy when she didn't know that I was going to join her organization. But once I joined his organization he immediately said he was busy and never wanted to accompany me or talk to me seriously and casually. It's obvious that she's avoiding me and I'm having a hard time with her being like that," Elano said, making his assistant raise an eyebrow.

"Who are you referring to?"

Elano sighed. "The young girl who is my Professor and helper. She was very persistent and had no intention of improving with me again after I got into that organization without telling her first. She is really very complicated, as well as very difficult to approach."

The visible assistant frowned. "How come you have to think? Just ignore her, isn't she not that important in the affairs and goals we're going to do?"

That's right, Elano had been thinking too much about that girl to the point of being a little unfocused. He didn't even take any notes about the explanation of the anti-disaster building. What is this? Why did his mind keep focusing on Katherine? What was he doing to forget everything he had planned?

"Don't tell me I'm interested in her until when she ignores me I myself almost go crazy thinking of all sorts of ways to get her attention again? Gosh, that's impossible, isn't it?"
