CHAPTER 39: Completing Her List Part I

EREVELL’s P.O.V.

Two days passed by. I never saw Gabriel nor he visited me ever since we got outside and spend the day in the mall. I don’t know what happened to him, because he wasn’t even answering my calls. I feel worried, just the thought of him moving away from our country once again will make me lose my breath. I only got a few weeks left... What if... What if I die while he’s away?

“Dear? Is something bothering you?” my mother asked, while staring at me.

“Uhm... Nothing, Mom. I was just wondering where could Gabriel go... I mean, he’s been gone for days...”

“Two days. It’s only been two days, Erevell. If you think about it, he might be working or maybe doing something else.”

“But he’s not working. His father gave him a vacation.”

“Oh, is that so? Then he must be enjoying it...”

“Without me?”

“You know you can’t go with him. The doctors are still monitoring your condition.”

“As if I have hope left,” I sighed, and my mother glared at me.

“We will never give up, okay? Even Gabriel. Did you already tell him about your... Deadline?”

“No yet... I know he will be mad at me.”

“But he will even get more mad at you if you didn’t tell him yourself.”

“Then I’ll tell him if I see him again,” I reasoned out.

“Promise?”

“I promise, Mom.”

She smiled at me, before she continued what she’s doing. I grabbed the telephone at the side of my table, before dialing Gabriel’s number several times. Again, he didn’t answer. I sighed, getting tired of hoping that I will still be able to contact him again.

“What’s with the face?” Mom asked me again, a mischievous smile is plastered upon her face. I wonder if she knew something about this.

“Well, Gab is not answering my calls! He should have at least inform me if something is happening in his life, Mom,” I complained, but she just shook her head.

“You know what, I’ll just call the doctor to give you something that will calm you down,” she stated, before walking towards the door.

“You are joking, right?” She just laughed at my question.

“Of course, silly. I will get some food for you.”

“I don’t want to eat.”

“Well, you have to,” she firmly stated, before she finally left me behind.

I put my arms in front of my chest, getting impatient at my best friend. I badly wanted to call him again, but just like what my mother said, he must be doing something very important and I didn’t want to disturb him. But as the door swing opening, my jaw dropped when I saw the man that I was looking for ever since earlier.

“Gab!” I shouted, delighted to see him before running towards him to give him a big hug.

“Whoah!” He chuckled.

“Where did you go?” I asked him, almost in tears.

“I went to fetch this for you,” he stated, grinning before he pulled something from behind him. It was a sunflower, leaving me breathless at the sight of its beauty.

“You... F-Fetch this?” I stammered, mesmerized by his gift.

“Yes... It’s yours. You can touch it,” he chuckled.

He handed me the flower, before I gasped. I can’t believe that he has given me this one. I feel so special, staring at my favorite flower which I received from my best friend, and the same man whom I love the most aside from my father.

“I love it! Thank you so much!”

“You know, you should reward me for going to a farm just to get you this,” he smiled, a genuine one.

“Thank you, Gab,” I thanked him over and over again. “You don’t know how much this means to me. I love it... And I love you,” I hugged him, and I felt him stiffened after hearing what I said. That’s when I realized what I just do.

“As a friend, of course...” I muttered.

I felt him sighed out of relief, before giving back the embrace. After that, heard him whispered something into my ears, making my heart melts than what it was already is.

“I love you too.”

As we pulled away from each other, I tried to hide the pain caused by his words. He loved me, and I know that he only said that because I made it clear to him that I only love him as a friend. What if I didn’t rephrase my statement? What if I didn’t chickened out and decided to tell him the truth right now? That I love him more than just a friend? But I didn’t want to ruin this very special moment either...

“Hey! Are you alright? Is there something wrong?” he asked me, a worried expression plastered upon his face.

“Yes... I mean, I am fine. Everything feels great,” I lied to him.

“Well that’s good. Because I am here to tell you some great news.”

“And what is that?” This time, he fully got my attention.

“Today is the day when we are going to complete your bucket list. Now, may I borrow you from this hospital?” he asked, making me chuckle as he offered his hands in front of me.

“Sure... You can take me anywhere you wanted to.”

That made his smile widened even more. The two of us waited for my Mom to come back, before we asked for her permission. As usual, she allowed me to go since she wanted me to enjoy my remaining days in here... One thing that bothers me all over again.

I promised my Mom that I’m going to tell Gabriel everything once that he visited me again... But this day is too good to be ruined just because of my pathetic situation. I can’t bear to tell him that I’m dying now that he is very hopeful that I can still survive and get better soon... Even the truth is, only a miracle can save me.

“Hey, let’s go?” Gabriel asked me as he took my hand.

“Sure...” I looked at my Mom’s direction, and she gave me a meaningful stare as if she could read what I was thinking a few moments ago. “We’re leaving, Mom,” I stated, and she just nodded at me.

As Gabriel and I took the elevator to get down on the lobby, I felt an inevitable pain inside my chest. However, I chose to ignore it, not wanting him to get worried and cancel everything that he prepared for me for today.

“Are you alright?” he asked me.

“Y-yes...” I stuttered.

“Sure? You know we can go some other day if you’re not feeling well,” he assured me.

“No!” I instantly answered, without even thinking. He stared at me, an intense confusion was plastered upon his face. “I mean, I want to do it today. I want to complete my bucket list, Gabriel.”

“Alright then... We will, Erevell. We will.”
