CHAPTER 40: Fulfilling Her Wishes

GABRIEL’s P.O.V.

Today, I am here in front of a restaurant near the Merlion statue, waiting for one of our business partners to arrived. I have a very busy schedule, yet I managed to tell my secretary to schedule this meeting in front of this place because I wanted to be reminded by Erevell... That I am doing all of these for her, because I love her, and moving on will never be an option for me. My heart may not be able to move on, but my life has to keep on going.

“Gab? Is that you?” I turned around, facing the woman whom I least expected to see in this place.

“Claire! It’s you. How are you? Did you and Darren...” I trailed off, wanting to ask her what happened to their own love story.

“Oh, he found me. Actually, we already have two kids now,” she stated, smiling at her best.

“Wow, that was amazing. You know what, I need to catch up with you after my meeting. Looks like you’ve been so happy,” I stated, more than delighted to know that she already fixed her life.

“Of course. And you know what, Kate and I finally reconciled. And who would have thought that she will be marrying Elijah. Now she’s pregnant with their first child,” she exclaimed happily.

“Really? I knew it. I’m glad that Kate finally found the love of her life.”

I smiled, remembering mine. Erevell. She’s the love of my life. The one that I’ve never got to spend a long time with. But I’m fine, as long as I’m making her proud through living my life to the fullest, even without someone to hold on to. Her memories are already enough, and nothing could ever change my mind about that.

“So, what are you doing here in Singapore?” I asked her.

“Oh, Darren and I came to meet one of our business partners.”

“Wait, what? What is the name of your company again?” I asked her.

“Herrera Corp. Why?”

“World is really too small, I guess. I came here to meet your husband.”

“Really? That’s great! We could catch up later on with Darren.”

“Sure, sure.”

“Wait, I’m just going to call him.” She was about to walk away when I called her name.

“Claire... Wait!”

“Yes?” she asked me, confusion is plastered upon her face. “What is it?”

“Did I already thank you enough? I’m afraid I haven’t done that before I left. Thank you for making me realize whom is the person that I truly love.”

“Did I?”

“Yes, because of you, I saw her importance. I’ve never been so in love the way that I did to her.”

“That’s great! But where is she? Kate and I would love to meet her, Gabriel.”

“She’s gone... Unfortunately.”

“Wait, what? What do you mean? What happened?” she asked me.

“She died, three years ago. She was my best friend. The one whom I was talking about before. The one whom I always tells you about. I realized that I love her so much, and sadly, we haven’t got much time. It was already too late for me to love her back... To give her everything... To give her the world... Because that’s what she deserves...”

“I’m sorry to hear that... I never thought that you’ve been through all of that alone.” I chuckled, before assuring her that I’m fine now.

“Don’t worry, I’m alright now. Actually, I’m starting to heal... Not to totally move on, but heal.”

“That’s good, Gab. Life doesn’t stop at all... We all need to find a way to continue living for those person who left us... To fulfill their wishes that they haven’t got a chance to do and fulfill our promises that we made before they passed away.”

“That’s exactly what she said...” She chuckled, hearing my comment.

“It would have been nice if we met her. But anyways, can I ask why did she died?”

“She... She’s a cancer patient...”

“Wow. She must have been so brave. You’re lucky to be loved by her. And I’m sure that she is too.”

I nodded, before I genuinely smiled. And then Darren came towards our direction, surprised to see me as well as how Claire reacted earlier.

“Claire!” he called out, before looking at my direction. “Gabriel?”

“Yes, Mr. Herrera. And I’m your soon to be business partner, by the way. Mr. Elizar,” I offered my hand for a shake, and he gladly took it.

“Wow, small world. How are you?”

“Fine... I’m doing well, and I already met your wife. I’m glad that you two finally found your way back to one another,” I greeted them before Darren smiled at me.

“It’s nice meeting you again. Anyways, I have to thank you for what you’ve done before. You’re the one who told me everything... You made me realized that Claire had been faithful to me all those time,” Darren stated.

I remembered that time, when I bid my final farewells to him before I left that country. I told him everything, that Claire doesn’t have anything to do against him. It was just a misunderstanding caused by Kate that is now solved. Now everyone of us could be happy, knowing that we already gave forgiveness to open another.

“You’re welcome... I just thought that you two... You deserve to be happy. You know, not everyone gets the happy ending that they wanted. But as much as possible, I wanted to be the bridge for that to happen. So it’s not really much of a big deal, since that misunderstanding before is partially my fault.”

“You’re a great man. Now, let us talk about business, shall we?” Darren asked me, and I nodded.

The three of us finally came inside of the restaurant, before we started discussing the topics of our meeting. It’s been a very nice start for our partnership to begin. We sealed the deal by signing contracts before enjoying our lunch. Claire and Darren looked so in love with one another, and I just smiled, thinking that no matter how long it had been, the two of them never gave up with one another, and that is because they are the love of their lives.

For me, Erevell is the greatest love of mine. One that I could never forget, no matter how long, and how many other woman came into my life. She’s the only one... And that will never change, until the end of time. She will remain as my unselfish shelter, the woman who’s been there through my everything, and nothing can change that even now that she’s gone.
