Chapter 16

***Julia POV***

Once again, I seem to have woken in a hospital room. Although this one is not familiar. My body is aching, and I feel a chill deep inside. Like something very important is missing. My head was hurting, my stomach rolling with hunger. So goddess knows how long I had been unconscious this time.
I gingerly moved my head to one side, and then the other. That was when I saw him. A stranger, yet not.

Did I know this man? Something deep inside me stirred into life. I let my eyes travel over his body, as he was fast asleep, yet crammed into a tiny chair, I could do this at my leisure. No, the chair was not tiny. It was the man, he was huge. At a guess, as he was in a chair, I would say he was at least six and a half foot tall. He had black shaggy hair, as dark as any night. His jaw had stubble on it. Wether it was deliberate or not, it made him look very sexy. He had high cheek bones and full, kissable lips.

Kissable lips? I thought to myself. Where the hell had that thought come from? I didn’t know this man. I should not be having these type of thoughts about him.
Why though? Why shouldn’t I be having these type of thoughts? I was half way through that thought, when everything came rushing back. Hearing from Jackson, what my sister thought of me. Billy, oh Billy. I had rejected him. Rejected him and run away.

Fuck! I had stolen his car. When I remembered about the car I cried out, horrified that I could have been so wicked and cruel. My cry made the man in the chair jump to his feet, he went straight into an attack stance and I could see emerald eyes shining out from under his long dark lashes.
As the man surveyed the room, his eyes alighted on me. A look of concern was immediately on his face, and I saw the emerald shine fade. Leaving his bright green eyes looking at me.
‘Your awake.’ the stranger said.
‘Yes.’ I said.

We just stared at each other, I swear to the Goddess this man was familiar to me. After what seemed like ages, we looked away from each other, he ran out of my room, and I was trying to think. Then it hit me. Green eyes. I had seen green eyes, just before I blacked out. Oh, Goddess. He was there when I had the accident.
I was groaning in complete embarrassment when the stranger returned with a doctor I had never seen before. The familiar stranger had a soft smile on his lips, whilst the doctor had a huge smile on his.
‘Juls, you’re awake.’ He walked over to the bed I lay in whilst the other man stood back, by the door.

‘You gave us all quite the scare, I don’t mind telling you, Juls, it was touch and go with you for a good few weeks. But look at you now. Your awake, and with a little more rest, I’d wager you will make a full recovery.’
The doctor was the jovial type, he wasn’t very tall, but was quite wide in the shoulders. His face had genuine joy in it. I thought I would have liked to have worked with someone like him.
Wait! Weeks. He had said weeks.

‘Doctor, how long have I been in this hospital. And without disrespect, what hospital am I in. I know it’s a werewolf facility. What pack am I in?’
The smile on the doctor’s face faltered slightly at my questions, before he could respond, however, the man moved away from the door and said, ‘we can leave all the questions for a bit, doctor Wallace. We don’t want to overwhelm the patient. Do we.’

The sentiment was said, light enough, but something lay under the words. An authority, maybe. I had my answer at the doctor’s next words.
‘Yes, of course, Alpha. I will return later. I will send a nurse in with fresh water, for Juls.’ Once he bowed his head in respect toward his leader, he left the room.
My heart had started to race, Alpha? This man was an Alpha. And I was a rogue. I suddenly felt very sick, I tried to get out of bed. So I could get to the bathroom that joined on to the hospital room. Unfortunately, my legs hit the floor, and I immediately started to fall.

The stranger rushed forward and caught me in his arms. Scooping me up, bridal style. ‘Whoa there. You’ve not used your legs for a few weeks, you need to take it slow.’ He said, gently.
I started to panic, and began to struggle within the confines of his arms. He placed me back on the bed, gently, despite my thrashing around. ‘Hey, hey. It’s ok, no one is going to hurt you. I’m not going to hurt you. I just wanted to help. I’m sorry if I scared you.’ I looked into his beautiful green eyes and saw nothing but sincerity shining from them. I suddenly felt ashamed.

‘No, please. I’m sorry. I reacted badly. I was attempting to go to the bathroom as I felt a little sick. My legs not working properly hadn’t even entered my head. So, thank you. Alpha.’ I finished. Showing my respect for the man, by baring the back of my neck to him. The last thing I needed to do was piss this man off. I couldn’t risk being caught. I needed to get to a human town. And start living my new life.
‘Please, you do not need to be so submissive. But I thank you for the respect, nonetheless. How are you feeling? Do you have any memory at all about what happened?’ He said. An anxious look coming back on his face. And it was such a handsome face. He truly was gorgeous.

And clearly a very powerful werewolf. An Alpha. Just how far away from my pack did I travel; unnerved at the thought.
‘I remember everything. The accident, what happened before it. The only fuzzy part is why I spun off the road. I can’t recall that.’ My cheeks reddened at the admittance. And I suddenly felt very foolish.
‘That’s not important at the moment. There were no dead animals found on the road where you crashed. So we don’t think a small animal ran you off the road.’
His tone implied humor, wether to put me at ease, I don’t know. I looked up at the man, who I could now see stood well above the six and a half foot I originally guessed.

I just kept staring at him, as a thought flashed through my mind. My hands flew to my cheeks and I started rocking back and forth. Of course it wasn’t a small animal. I remember now.
‘I hit a large animal, didn’t I? Possibly a wolf?’ I said, tentatively. The mans eyes widened for a faction of a second, then grinned, a little guilty. Oh, the absolute horror of it.
‘I hit you? Didn’t I, or more specifically, I hit your wolf. Oh my Goddess, I am so so sorry, Alpha. I hope I didn’t cause too much damage to you. I know Alpha’s heal much faster than the average wolf, but you would still have had to heal. I can’t tell you how very sorry I am…’

The man put up both hands and gestured for me to stop talking. I have to admit, everything I said did come out as one long sentence, in my rush to apologize. ‘Juls, please. It’s ok. Yes, you hit Raven, my wolf. But you did not harm me. What so ever. I did not need to heal. So there is no harm done. I assure you.’
I thought about that for a second, I hadn’t harmed him in any way? I know I was going at a fair speed. Anything I hit would have sustained at least, a small injury. But this man and his wolf, didn’t incur any.’

‘Juls, you keep calling me Juls. Why?’ I asked. Confusion now clouded my mind. My previous question still very much in the forefront of my mind, even when I asked the other.
‘We assumed it was your name. Is it not? Your car, it caught fire shortly after you crashed. We managed to put out the flames. But most of its contents had been burnt to cinders. Including all the paperwork you had in the car. But we did find a portion of your passport. It showed your picture, somewhat singed, and the start of a name. Which was Juls. So that is what the staff refer to you as.’

I closed my eye’s at the thought of Billy’s car going up in flames. I had never thought he would forgive me after my rejection of him. But totaling his car too? I will never earn his forgiveness now.
The nurse entered the room, with the fresh water that the doctor had promised. I drank, thirstily. With the nurse filling up my water glass, three times. I thanked her as I sunk back onto the fluffy pillows and closed my eyes.

The strange Alpha, stepped back from the bed, allowing the nurse access. ‘I will leave you in peace now, I will call and see you tomorrow.’ He nodded to the nurse. And as he opened the door, I shouted out ‘Julia’. My name, its not Juls. It’s Julia. Julia Mason,’ I said. With a smile.

The smile was not what reflected back at me. ‘Julia Mason, you said?’ the man asked.

I nodded. Somewhat unsure, all of a sudden, as almost all the colour on his face drained away.
