Chapter 36

***Daniel, Beta-to-be POV***

“I knew it! I. Fucking knew it! Haven’t I said all along that something funky was going on? For Jackson to love that skank, that self absorb bitch? I fucking knew it. Anyway, I’ve got to go, make sure all the lads are ready to go. I want every inch of our pack lands searched for that bitch. I know the Alpha will no doubt be sending out the warriors as well, but we know to look in places the warriors would never think of.”

I shut off my phone. I was a good distance away from the Midway boarder so I knew my Alpha would not sense any upset coming from me or my wolf, Freddy.

I was beyond angry. I was devastated for my best friend. He had chosen that bitch to be his Luna. Our Luna. Although Jackson was unaware of a shift within the pack, I knew that many members of The Moons Wane Pack were planning on leaving if Jackson became Alpha and had Eva as his Luna.

The pack could see what Jackson could not. They could see Eva. Some said they could feel an evil within her. I don’t know about that. All I knew was that the girl was bad news. And I would find her, and bring her to justice. Not just for Jackson, but also for the Luna we would have had if Jackson had been in his right mind.

I would hunt the bitch down for Julia, too.

**Jackson POV**

I was to meet my parents in the breakfast room this morning, we would then go back to the hospital. When I walked into the brightly lit room, I heard a few gasps at my appearance. I hadn’t been able to sleep last night.

I decided to join the rescue party’s that were still looking for survivors/bodies.

My mother was the first to look at me, her eyes shone with unshed tears. I hated seeing her like this. And knowing that I was in some part, guilty, just made me feel worse.

My father looked up as I drew out my chair. I waited to be berated for my attire, instead, I was pleasantly surprised to hear,

“Morning my son. What would you like to eat?”

My eyes narrowed as I looked at my father. What the fuck was going on?

“Jackson, we are so proud of the way you are helping the people of Midway. It shows great leadership. You will be an amazing Alpha, my son.”

I looked at the tears now running down my mothers beautiful face.

Okay! Something was going on. I am so sick of all this. Why can’t people just be straight with me.

“Guys, whats going on. Why say something like that, mother? And in front of the currant Alpha, I mean, I know he’s your husband but surely even you should not speak about it so publicly? Has something happened? Please tell me?”

I was practically begging at this point. I needed to know what had happened. It was my father that gave me the answer.

“My son, there is a very good chance that by the end of today, you will be sworn in as the new Alpha to our pack.” My eyes bugged out and I spat my coffee all over the pristine table cloth. Leaving little brown spots on the surface.

“Jackson, please calm down and listen.” My mother asked softly.

“As you know, the doctor asked that more blood test be run, more in-depth. Your mother and I believe that when the tests come back. They will show different poisons within Julia’s system. When this is discovered, they will look towards me. As Julia was part of my pack, and technically my ward, it would fall to me if she was abused in such a way.”

My brows furrowed as I looked between my parents.

“Are you saying that they would be able to tell that another potion was administered to Julia? That was years ago, father. How would any test be able to pick up on it.”

My father looked at the floor. My mother reached out her hand and clasped my fathers hand in hers.

“Jackson,” mother said softly. “Oh Jackson. Your father admitted something to me last night. Something I never had any clue about. Do you recall the conversation we had in your fathers office. The one where we discussed the ‘young’ Mason family?”

I nodded toward my mother, but my eyes were still on my fathers down bent head. He was clearly remorseful for what had happened, that much was plain to see. But it was such a long time ago. I didn’t understand. I started to ask my mother to explain more, when my father interjected.

“The potion I used on the girls, to make them forget who their father was, to make them forget they came from an Alpha wolf. Well, as you know, Evangeline was not Michaels child. So, I never continued to administer the potion to her. There was no need, she was just a lowly omega. Julia on the other hand. She was an Alpha-to-be by the blood that runs in her veins. To stop her discovering it, I made sure that once a year, the potion was given to her. Usually in her coffee. I have a close friend who works at the hospital with Julia. Every year, she would make sure Julia drank the coffee that held the potion within it. There by, allowing Julia to forget she has Alpha blood.”

I couldn’t move, I couldn’t speak. Freddy was barely contained, he was so angry with our father. Freddy told me that Father Brutus and mother Crystal were refusing to comment. That was why he was so mad. Me? I wasn’t mad, I was incandescent with rage. How dare he. How dare he play Goddess with another wolfs life. I stared at the man I had once admired and respected. Both lay shattered at my feet.

My father, the great Alpha Maximus was nothing but a liar. A fraud.

I didn’t say one word to either of them as I rose from the table and stalked away. I heard my name, almost like a breath, leave my mothers lips. But I didn’t turn around.

When this got out. When the Blood Oath pack doctor found the other substances in Julia’s blood. My father would be finished. And I would be named Alpha.

But I was getting ahead of myself. First, I needed to go to meet with the doctor. I was going to change into clean clothes before I left, but I decided against it. Let the pack members of the Blood oath pack see that I am helping the town of Midway. Let them see that I am working with members of the other surrounding packs.

If my father was to be unseated as Alpha, then I wanted everyone to see that I; would be a good leader. Someone who could play well with the other Alphas.

But, when the time comes, and I am made Alpha, I fully intend to have my goddess given mate, by my side.
