Chapter 25
***Alpha Reece POV***
I was sitting on the sofa, next to Julia. Watching some rom-com on the television. I had tucked in a load of pillows and blankets around her. I want to make sure she was in no way, uncomfortable. Although, she did resemble a burrito, Julia didn’t complain. She never complained. About anything. Her strength amazed me.
I loved this time of day. After the stress of running a pack, and having a successful business, I would usually eat in the main food hall, with my pack members, go to my office and get some paperwork done. Work until, ten thirty, eleven o clock. Then go to my apartment, pour myself a few fingers of whisky, have a shower and crash.
I did that, day in and day out. Until I brought Julia home. Then I found myself wanting to be here, more and more.
When I wasn’t with Julia, I worried. So it was easier on me to just spend more time with her. When I first brought her home, I would have food sent up from the kitchens. Breakfast was usually served by 7am.
Julia would always be awake, dressed and ready to sit down and eat. Lunch was the same. Dinner time varied, as I never knew where I was going to be needed. I could be training a team or simply playing soccer with the pups. So I was never with Julia for that meal.
I found myself doing things earlier than before. So I could get back to my apartment and spend a few hours with Julia. Be it watching a movie, which was one of Julia’s favourite things to do, I learned. Or sitting next to each other on the sofa and just chatting about our day. I craved this time with her, like a drowning man craved a life raft.
I knew I was falling for this woman, big time. I adored everything about her. And the more we learnt, the more I loved.
But Julia had been living in my apartment for a while now. She was getting stronger, each and every day would bring some new revelation. Julia would get so excited. The only problem I had with her, was she still didn’t believe me, when I would speak to her about being our Alpha-Luna.
It was almost like there was a physical block inside her. Stopping her from seeing the truth. And from sensing her wolf. Who I now knew for sure was still with her. My wolf, Raven, had heard the she-wolf. Raven said it was very weak, and seemed far away, but he definitely heard a voice. As usual, Raven would get excited at the thought of finally meeting Julia’s wolf, Onyx.
We had just finished the movie. I moved, to get up but stayed where I was when I realised Julia was fast asleep. Cocooned as she was, in all the blankets and pillows, she probably couldn’t move around. So just fell asleep, in the sitting position she was in. I suddenly felt guilty. It was at my insistence that she wrap up. As usual, I went overboard, and now this has happened.
Wether Julia was uncomfortable or not, I knew she would never say. Choosing to just tough it out, instead of telling me that there was something wrong. I knew her behaviour spoke volumes about her life prior to arriving here. And it all but killed me to think that Julia would just suffer in silence. Our Ex Luna, Maria. Had a lot of explaining to do, as far as I was concerned.
Not worrying about that now though, I picked Julia up from the sofa, letting her head rest against my chest. I had gently removed some of the blankets I had wrapped around her, so she had free movement now.
As I walked to Julia’s bedroom, I felt her snuggle closer to me. I smiled down at her, thanking the goddess that no one from my pack could see the sappy look I had on my face. I was known to be a hard faced bastard. Seeing me like this, would ruin my reputation. Raven laughed in my mind. My smile grew bigger.
I placed Julia down on her bed and covered her with her bed throw. I was finding myself reluctant to leave her side. I brushed my fingers down the side of her cheek and heard the soft sigh leave her lips.
My body reacted to that sigh, quicker than I had ever reacted to a woman standing naked in front of me. I was so hard, it was almost painful. I turned and left Julia’s room.
I was struggling to walk properly due to the strength of my hard on. It had been a long time since I had allowed myself sex. I was an Alpha, and I needed to show all she-wolves, wether they were my pack members or not, that I respected them.
And that meant, no more sleeping around. No more heading to different packs to try and find myself a mate. No. I had stopped it all. And then look what happened. Our lady Julia, had returned home. And I quickly came to understand.
As I closed Julia’s door, leaving it ajar. In case she needed me in the night. My Beta, mind linked me. And he sounded panicked.
‘Whoa, slow down, man. I can barely understand you. Whats wrong? Are we being attacked?’
Steven slowed his speech down enough for me to understand what was happening. I rushed to find pen and paper, quickly scribbling a note to Julia. I was out the door in seconds, and running to meet Steven and Jeremy, who were waiting by my office door.
‘What the fuck? Do we know yet, how this happened? Do we have any intel on casualties? Or, goddess forbid, the dead?’
It was Jeremy that answered me. He was in doctor mode. And all business.
‘Alpha, we do not know how it happened, we just know that there are many casualties. It is a disaster, one we have not seen in a long time. What would you like us to do?’
I looked at Jeremy and Steven, less than a second later I was issuing orders. There was a loud bang on my office door, then Angelo walked in.
He was my lead warrior. We worked closely together, in the business. Whilst in pack mode, Angelo waited for orders. ‘Angelo, take units 1 through 10 to the site. Make a perimeter. Do not phase, unless it is vital. I want everyone there to look human. We are going to have to blend in. There will be a lot of work to do.’
I turned to speak with Jeremy, ‘Go to the hospital. Direct any wolves to our hospital. We cannot allow any creature to be taken to the human hospital. If they have nowhere else to go, send them here. We will sort it out at a later date. For now, be vigilant.’ Jeremy nodded, then left.
I knew his next move would be to arrange his doctors and nurses. Make sure they had everything they would need to try and assist, in any way possible.
I looked at Steven, who was already undressing. I started to do the same. We would be quicker in wolf form. I walked out of the French doors, that opened up to an expanse of lawn, just outside my office.
I could see my fellow warriors, do the same as Steven and myself. Once everyone had phased into their soul-sharers, I quietened them all down. All eyes were on Raven as he addressed his troops.
‘We do not know the full scale of the disaster. We have no idea what we will find when we get there. But I want you all to prepare yourselves. This is not going to be easy. We will almost certainly find werewolves amongst the injured or deceased. Stay focused and do your best to carry on. Help anyone. Be it human, fae, or a regular animal. Stop at the motel phoenix, change into whatever garment you find. Then make your way to the disaster zone. Okay, guys. Let’s go!’
Raven finished speaking, then sped off at high speed. We needed to make it to the town of Midway, before the Situation got worse.
As I ran, I thought about the small town. I assume it is called Midway, because of its position on a map. The town, which had started as a very small village, sat exactly in the middle of four large wolf packs.
The two largest being, my pack. The second being the Moons Wane Pack, the third was the Crescent Moon and the fourth was called the Moons Shadow Pack.
