Chapter 30

***Jackson POV(cont)***

I could hear him scurrying behind me, to try and keep up.
‘Why are you acting like such a child, all of a sudden?’ He barked at me. I stopped, and spun around so quickly, Dan barreled into me. And the two of us went sprawling.

Dan jumped up and held out his hand to help me up. I was about to smack it away, and stand myself, when I realised I was behaving like a total dick to my best friend.
‘Dan, I want you to tell me, honestly, what you think of Eva. Please.’ Dan looked at me, and said, ‘let’s go outside. Get some air.’ I followed him out. We sat on a bench just outside the door to the hospital. I felt nervous. Me? Dan made me promise to stay quiet while he spoke. I agreed. So he started talking about Eva.

‘I know I am about to upset you. But please know, man. Whatever I say next, will be the truth.’ Dan waited for my nod before continuing.
When dan had finished talking, I just sat there. Like I was made of stone. I was so incensed by what I was hearing. And yet, I had asked for it. I had promised that I would listen and not react.

I couldn’t believe what he was telling me. I reached for my phone, and saw for the first time that it was smashed up. I growled with annoyance. Dan got out his phone and handed it to me. I didn’t take it from him. But I did ask him to phone around my small circle of friends. I wanted their opinions too.
By the end of the phone calls, I was devastated. What the fuck was going on. I closed my eyes. Thinking what to do. When I came up with nothing, I decided to get some advice from the one person I knew always had my back.

‘Mother, where are you. I must speak with you. It’s urgent.’ Mother Crystal was the one to respond.

‘What is troubling you, my pup?’ She asked, worriedly. I explained everything to her. Eva, Julia, and all the conversation between me and my friends. I waited for her to respond. What felt like an hour, past by before mother spoke to me.

‘Am I right in saying, that you are currently in the Blood Oath Pack hospital?’ When I said I was, mother Crystal made a suggestion that shocked me to my core.
‘I want you to go back inside the hospital, find a doctor, or nurse that can take a blood sample from you. Ask them to test for all known toxins, that can be used to manipulate and alter ones perception. If I am right, my pup. Eva Mason will have a lot of explaining to do.’

I thanked my mother for the advice. Walked back into the hospital and went in search of the doctor I had seen standing next to Julia.
Doctor Jeremy listened to what I had to say, and agreed to take the sample. When I asked how long I would have to wait, thinking that it would probably take a day or two, but was told I would have the results within a few short hours.

That was good enough for me. Maybe then, when I could tell everyone I was ok, they would respect my choice of mate. And allow the ceremony to continue. Unhindered by speculation and suspicions.

***Doctor Jeremy POV***

Something that Jackson Forester said, while he asked me to take a blood sample off him, triggered a vague conversation I had with Reece a few weeks ago. I knew I should get permission from the Alpha. But I wanted to save time and just run the test. As I now had something to compare.

I took Jackson’s blood to the lab myself. Thankfully, one of the best scientists was working. I explained about the two samples. And told him that they were his only priority today.
I went back to work, Julia was still here too. I could also see the two Delta’s shadowing her every move. No doubt ordered by Reece. I smiled to myself. My friend was absolutely smitten with Julia. And I was so happy for him.

I just needed to make sure I was right about her. And what was happening or had happened to her, and to Jackson.
My cell phone dinged, with an incoming message. The results were in.

When I finally had both sets of results in my hand. Everything fell into place. And I needed to speak to my Alpha, and best friend.
This would be life altering.

***Alpha Reece POV***

I finally got to the hospital. The first thing I did was seek Julia out. I was furious with Jeremy for letting her help out. But also very proud of her. I mean, she was still recovering herself. I was almost running to the emergency room, when Jeremy came around the corner and we smacked into each other.

‘Alpha, I need you to get Alpha and Luna Mason here. I also need Jackson to be here. We need a meeting with them. It’s about their blood. I found what I have been looking for. All because Jackson asked me to run a test on a blood sample he gave me.’
Jeremy was out of breath when he finished. I just looked at him in puzzlement. What the fuck was he going on about?

After a few seconds, and I had the time to process what he had actually said, I growled, low in my throat.
Anyone who knew me, knew this was not good. It meant Raven had control, and as a general rule, you didn’t fuck with Raven.

‘You want us to do what? Did I hear you right, doctor? You want to set up a meeting with our Lady’s old pack. And the wolf that rejected her? Are you out of your mind? No! Absolutely not!’

Before Raven could get any farther, I got the control back. ‘Jeremy, what you ask, is a lot. I need to know now, why I should facilitate this meeting.’

Jeremy rushed me to his office and explained what he had discovered. It was mind blowing. That this had been going on for however long. And nobody suspected? It was almost too much to take in.
But, I agreed with Jeremy. We needed a face to face meeting with the Alpha, Luna and Heir of the Moons Wane Pack.

A sudden fear gripped my heart. I had to find Julia. Now. I asked a passing nurse, and was directed to a row of treatment cubicles. I scanned the area, trying to spot her.
As I couldn’t see her at the moment, I assumed Julia was in one of the cubicles, with a patient. I was right. A few minutes after I arrived, I saw Julia leave the small room and walk to the nurses station. I listened to everything she said. I didn’t understand any of it.

But I understood something else. I saw it as clear as I see her now. I wanted. No. Needed, to ask Julia to be my Luna. I craved her with every fibre of my being.
I stood back and watched Julia wizz around the emergency room. Helping people. She was breathtaking.

Julia looked up from the clipboard she was holding, and locked eyes with mine. I felt my breath catch in my throat. Her beautiful green eyes were glowing, only slightly. But it was a definite glow of emerald.
Instantly I knew. I just had to be a little more patient.

The smile I received from her was too beautiful for words. I walked over to her, without thinking I lent in and brushed her cheek with a soft kiss. I heard the gasp that left her mouth, as her normal green eyes, flew to meet mine. ‘What was that for?’ Julia asked, breathlessly.

‘For being amazing today. You are still recovering yourself, yet you put that to one side, so you could help others. I just wanted to say thank you. Not just from me. But the whole pack. Who, by the way, are raving about Doctor Julia.’

I could see she was about to say, * I’m not a doctor* but I stopped her. ‘I know. You are a nurse, and proud of the fact. As you should be. But the pack members you treated, see you more as a doctor. So that’s what they call you. It’s not as if they are wrong, is it?’ I added, softly.

Julia pouted her lips, as she twisted her tongue around her mouth. Clearly trying to swallow the words she had intended to speak.
‘I see someone has been talking to his Gamma?’ Julia replied, tartly.
Seeing her sass, and loving her even more, I nodded.

‘It’s not the only thing he told me. I know this is going to be difficult, but I have to insist, as Alpha of this pack, that I hold a meeting with the Mason family. They have already been contacted, and have accepted my invite. I know it’s a lot to ask, Juls. But it really needs to happen. Something has been discovered. And it is of great importance.’

I held her gaze as I spoke. It killed me to see the shadow of fear cross her face. I was more convinced than ever, about my plan; when she responded with, ‘I am sure the meeting will be of great importance. Of course I will attend.’

The natural elegance of her station, was starting to shine through. “Amongst other things” I thought to myself. ‘Thank you Julia. As Jackson is already here, we just need to wait for his parents to arrive. They are speeding their way here, as we speak.’

As I watched Julia head back to her patients, I had to push the irrational fear that gripped me, away.
If I had to fight for what I wanted.
Then I will fight. With everything I have.

I will not be letting Julia go.
