Chapter 37

**Julia POV**

I made sure to stay out of way whilst in the pack house. I hated being a burden on anyone. And as I hadn’t been inducted into this pack, I was still, technically, a rogue.

Not that anyone in this pack had treated me as such. In fact, it was the opposite. The respect I had been shown still blew my mind. Everyone was so kind. It was because of this, I tried to make as little footprint as possible.

It was with this in mind, that I got out of bed, and using the ensuite attached to my room, I quickly showered. Dressed. Then left the packhouse and headed to the hospital.

There must still be so much to do there, and I was determined to put my training to good use.

Nobody stopped me as I made my way over, some pack members raised their hands, saying good morning as I passed. It was so nice here. And you could see that everyone was happy here. Reece seemed to be a very good Alpha.

My heart squeezed at the thought of Reece. My tummy felt the familiar flutter of butterflies at the thought of seeing him. Even though I was actively avoiding him, this morning.

I was rather naughty last night. I know I should not have wound the powerful Alpha up, as much as I did, but damn it, he deserved it. Thinking i had Jackson on my mind. These days, Jackson was so far from the front of my mind that I could have easily forgotten about him.

And then the disaster happened yesterday. All of a sudden, my old pack was thrust back into my life. Not just Jackson though, but my former Alpha and Luna.

I had not spoken to them, and did not intend to. I saw them in the meeting with doctor Jeremy yesterday. But that was it.

I reached the hospital just as the clock on the wall displayed 7:00am.

This entrance, the ER, was still full of hustle and bustle. I saw loads of new faces. Doctors and nurses I had not seen yesterday. Quite a few of them stopped when they saw me entering. I smiled politely, then made my way to the sisters room, behind the nurses station.

The sound that left my lips was half scream, half sob, as Dr Richard Abanathie rose as I opened the door. I didn’t move for a few seconds.

Then I found myself buried in the familiar arms of my mentor and friend. I was openly crying as I clung on to the older man. He stood patiently, letting me cry. I could feel a soft heat radiating from his large hands, as he rubbed circles on my back.

They action was so familiar that it made me cry harder.

I looked up into the man who had saved me, eyes. A dopey, wet smile on my face.

And Reece chose that very moment to burst in through the door.

The growl that left his throat was terrifying. Richard bent his neck in submission. I was so angry. Who does he think he is, to treat this wonderful man like that.

My answering growl seemed to be a lot louder than Reece’s. My anger disappeared as I watched the powerful Alpha of the Blood Oath Pack, bow towards me.

“I am so sorry, Julia. Raven can be a little territorial. When he saw you in this mans arms, his feral side overtook him. I did not mean to growl at you.”

The worry held within Reece’s eyes, made me move out of Richard’s arms and walk toward him. My hand touched his, and the electric shock that shot up my arm, had me gasping out loud. I looked into Reece’s eyes. Deeply. I saw his wolf, just below the surface. And something stirred, deep within me. I smiled up at my proud Alpha.

“Silly wolf.” Was all I said. As I turned back to Richard.

“Why are you here? It’s such a wonderful surprise. Richard, as you seem not to have met,  allow me to make the introductions. Richard, this is Alpha Reece Cunningham. Alpha Reece, this is Dr Richard Abanathie, from the Moons Wane Pack.”

Richard bowed to Reece,, then held out his hand. Reece shook Richard’s hand immediately, and apologised profusely on behalf of his wolf, Raven.

Richard, being the gentleman he is, brushed it aside. Simply saying, that he was happy I had him on my side. That made me blink, as I stared at Richard.

“On my side? Whatever does that mean, Richard. Why would anyone want to take sides? There has been peace between all four packs, for generations now.”

Richard gave Reece a pointed look, then smiled softly at me.

“To answer your question, Julia. I am here to help this hospitals Doctors. The disaster in Midway will effect us all. And as Alpha Reece very generously had all patients brought here. This is where I need to be. As long as you give your permission, of course, Alpha.”

Richard bowed slightly, again toward Reece.

Reece did not hesitate to welcome the Dr, to his pack hospital. The two men chatted whilst I took my coat off and hung it in the space I was given yesterday. Luckily it was free.

To my surprise and delight, I learnt, through the conversation between Richard and Reece, that Richard was not the only doctor to come here this morning.

Doctor Maurice Chester from the Moon Shadow pack and Doctor Laurie Spencer from the Crescent Moon Pack.

Each of the surrounding packs had sent nurses too. I enquired as to which nurses the Moons Wane Pack had sent. It would be lovely to see some familiar faces.

Richard’s face clouded over, he suddenly looked annoyed.

“Alpha Maximus forbid any medical staff leaving his pack, to assist here. He was more than willing for us to help if any casualties were brought to his pack hospital. Just not here.”

“What!” Growled Reece. “He forbade you and your colleagues from coming here? Why on earth would he do that? He is here. Jackson is here?”

Richard shook his head sadly. He knew something. I was sure of it. Over the years I had known this man, I had come to read his facial expressions, and moods. Richard was not hiding anything, he just wasn’t letting on what he knew.

My eye caught the time displayed on the clock and I let out a brief curse under my breath. I was now late for my meeting with Dr Jeremy. I started to excuse myself, when Reece interrupted me.

“Excuse me, but that is why I am here. My gamma asked if I could relay a message to you, Julia. There was some problem with one of the tests he ran on you. He is running late, and asked if he could re-schedule the appointment?”

Why won’t he meet my eyes. He is keeping his eyes downcast. I looked toward Richard. Then, part of their conversation registered a bit more, “Richard. How are you here if Alpha Maximus has forbidden it? Whats going on?”
