Chapter 22
***Eva POV (con't)***
I hung up the phone, I was livid. It was times like these I wish I had not constrained the wolf who sort to share my soul. How lovely it would be, to shift into a killing machine. And go hunt for some prey. Not to eat, no. No. I just wanted to kill something. Feel the life drain out of them, because of something I am doing. To have complete control over something in such a way was a major turn on for me.
But I would not allow my soul to be mixed with that of a dog. My soul must be mine and mine alone if I was to continue my studies with Madame Leonor. I will be the strongest mage that ever lived.
And when I reach the top rung of the ladder, I will destroy the werewolf council. And every blithering idiot that sits on high.
Making the rules that we must follow.
Not me, I was carving out my own destiny. But I needed more power. That was where Jackson, the pathetic little man, who liked to think he was already the Alpha, came in to it.
Once he marked me, I would be able to link into his soul-sharer bond. And use the energy from them, to empower me.
I looked longingly at my beautiful dress. I was upset about not getting to wear it on the day. But, I would get to wear it; When I get to throw a lavish party. With me in this fabulously sparkling dress, I would be centre stage. Where I knew I belonged. Nothing was going to get in my way.
Especially my beautiful sister. As I had not seen her in weeks, I had not been able to administer any potion to her. That could be very dangerous. If there was a wolf inside her, I hoped it was suitably blocked.
That reminded me, if I am to meet up with Jackson, and finally get my mark in a few days. I needed to get some salve from the mage camp. I would need Jackson to see me at my most beautiful that night. So there would be no hesitation in marking me.
I would smear the sweet smelling salve, all over my body tonight. I was so used to doing this by now, it was like using a shower gel. To the onlooker, I would be irresistible, a beautiful young woman, desired by all the men that saw me. I smiled at the thought of all the people I had tricked over the years.
I started using the salve, way back at the start of high school. Not too much. Just enough to alter their perception of me. I was a popular girl in High school. Especially with the boys. Who I had a particularly good time with. But, all that stopped when Madame Leonor suggested I set my sights on a higher class of men.
And my eyes landed on the future Alpha of my, or should I say, our, pack.
Yes. He was a little bit older than me. He was in his last year of college, whilst I had just started. It was easy, getting him to fall for me. The tricky part, was I needed to keep up the pretence. At all times, even when I wasn’t around Jackson, some of his friends may spot me around the college grounds.
I knew the salve and potion mixed together would work on Jackson, as he would have a little of the potion in him. That was why he felt connected to me.
His friends. Well. They were a different story. They would see a slight difference in me. But it would not be as powerful an illusion on them, as it would be on Jackson. But it would be fine. He was the future Alpha, and no one would go against his word.
I picked up my bag and went in search of Mom. I found her, slumped in the chair by the fire. An empty bottle of wine next to her. I shook my head in derision of her. Honestly, the sooner I raised my station and left her behind, the happier I would be. I will be a Luna. And she would just be the omega, Maria Mason.
I let the door slam shut, as I made my way to the car. I climbed in, but just sat for a moment, thinking. The last time I had made contact with Madame Leonor, the camp had been on the west side of our pack lands. I started the car, hoping the camp would still be in the same place. Otherwise I would be driving all over the place. And I didn’t have the time for that.
As I pulled out of the driveway I got a sudden chill down my spine.
I stopped the car just as I got onto the main road. I scanned the area as well as I could. With it getting dark, it was a bit of a challenge. I gasped, was there eyes, staring at me from the cover of the trees? I looked again. But saw nothing.
I drove off, telling myself that I was being paranoid. Who would be watching me? Plus, the forest was probably full of the filthy dogs, that had free reign of the area. I put on some music, and carried on with my journey. Soon forgetting about the staring eyes.
***(Narrator)***
The owner of the eyes slunk back into the dense forest, calling for one of his warriors. Once he had explained to the young omega, that he must follow the girl in the car. Go where she goes, and report back. But only to him. As he watched the young wolf sprint off, Brutus looked back towards the house. Something was not sitting right with him. His pup should not be this enamored with the Eva girl. He would find out what was going on. And make it right.
***Alpha Maximus POV***
I paced my office, I couldn’t relax. It was close to midnight and most of the packhouse was sleeping. As we were such a large pack. My pack house consists of four floors.
The first floor is basically a large kitchen and canteen style, dining hall. All unmated males and she-wolves would eat there. Those of a higher rank were given rooms within the pack house. Most of my warriors lived under this roof.
My family, or any Alpha family, before and after me, has the upper most floor. The entire floor is one huge apartment, with five bedrooms, a large living area. The usual kitchen and dining room. Over the years it had been upgraded. Just like Alpha Mic, as soon as the big money came rolling in, from our company, Wolf Enforcers, we both plowed it straight into our packs. Strengthening them.
The third floor house my Beta, Terry Kingsley, who had a three bedroom apartment. the third floor also housed my Gamma, Paul Barret. He also had a three bedroom apartment.
The second floor of the impressive pack house was where my office was located. Adjacent to my office was my Luna’s office. Across the hall from them were smaller offices, for the wolves who were directly under my Luna and I.
The other half of the second floor were divided into bedrooms. They all had their own bathrooms. And were all fully soundproofed, just like the rest of the packhouse. I loved my pack, but I drew the line at hearing the scoundrels, screwing each other, every night.
The was a soft knock on the door, then Lilian walked in. She was still dressed in her day to day clothes, just like me.
She took the seat opposite my desk and waited, with he hands holding one of her knees. Always elegant. Forever lovely. That was my Lilian.
I walked over to the desk and flopped down into my large leather chair. Lilian didn’t ask any questions, she simply waited for me to speak.
After a few minutes I broke the silence.
‘Something is not siting right with me, my love. I watched Maria Mason’s house for a few hours, earlier today. I didn’t see Maria, but the smell of hard liquor coming from the house probably meant she was passed out somewhere inside. That Eva, she came out. I don’t know why, but when I watched her, I got the strangest feeling off her. Or rather, Brutus did. As soon as he saw her his hackles rose, he almost went into a defensive stance. From that scrawny girl. It didn’t feel right.’
I finished speaking, and waited for Lilian to ask some questions. Lilian had a sharp, inquisitive mind. To my surprise, however. She stated,
'I ordered blood tests to be done on Jackson, this evening. Crystal has been picking up a faint smell she can’t identify, so we agreed we would like his blood tested to see if there are any toxins present. We should have the results before they leave in the morning.’
I must have looked so comical, standing there with my mouth hanging open. But I couldn’t stop myself. Before I could interject my thoughts, Lilian carried on speaking.
‘I believe the blood results will show some kind of herb or potion in his system. Probably containing Nasturtium. It’s the only logical explanation.’
