Chapter 10
Gaston pov
"Just go away, Victor. You're not helping; you're just adding salt to my wounds." I ran my hands down my face as Victor couldn't shut up about me finding Luna for our pack.
He gave me a suspicious look, and I just stared at him emotionlessly. I know what he is thinking, and I already know what he is about to say.
"You've been acting really strange after that night stand with your mate, Gaston," he said for the hundredth time this week.
"You're being delusional, Victor. I'm always like this. Now get back to work." I tried to cover up the fact that he was not wrong.
"Alpha, you know very well that you've been distracted ever since you met your mate."
"And why would you think so?" I question him.
"You cancelled about six business meetings within the last two weeks, and most of the business meetings you attended, you barely said a word because you were distracted." He's practically nagging me.
"It's just a faze; it'll go away." I stood up and ran my hand through my hair.
"That's not how mates work alpha," he said, and I know his right.
"I hate that she's a slut, and I'm going to accept the fact that I won't mark her as a slut even if I wanted to so badly." My voice was firm.
"Maybe just one more time."
"No, it'll just make matters worse." I cut Victor off.
I stare at the sky from my transparent glass wall, which displays a nice view of the busy streets and beautiful sunset.
"Fine, do whatever you want, but you know, if your mom keeps on pestering me about your mate, I'll be compelled to tell her the truth."
"You won't dare," I said, giving him a warning look.
"If your mom ever finds out you found your mate and you ever slept with her, she'll force you to bring her home, and if she finds out she works in a corrupt establishment, she'll never accept her, and you'll have no choice but to be forced to make that girl, Selena, you're new Luna." Veleir exclaimed, and every word he said was damn right.
"What do you think will be the perfect solution?" I asked, almost too desperate.
"It depends; do you need a solution for the pack or for your mate?" He asked, and for the first time, I wasn't able to choose.
I wonder what she's up to now—probably drunk with another man. Maybe, just maybe, if she didn't work in a corrupt establishment, I'd have brought her home as my Luna. It would have been the best thing that has ever happened to me in the last thirty years.
"I should probably head home," I said, taking my belongings.
Victor stopped me. "Are you actually going home?" he asked, and I nodded.
He stared at me in disbelief.
"You're not going to a club or meeting a random girl in a hotel?"
"Naa, I'll pass for tonight." I shoved him aside, and he followed me out of the room.
"Wait, don't tell me you haven't been with any other girl since you met your mate."
He said and I was quite cause it was true.
"Wow, that girl got you good, Alpha," he said, giving me a dry laugh, and I frowned.
"That girl did nothing; I'm not just in the mood for fun," I snapped and exited the building.
I got back home, and as usual, my mom came over to welcome me, and Selena trailed behind. I rolled my eyes at her and greeted my mom.
"So how was work, my son?"
I know where this is going; if I don't reply smartly, she'll start an intense conversation, and once you start an intense conversation with my mom, there's no going back until she says so.
"It was really stressful, mom. I don't even want to talk about it." I decided to go straight forward.
"Ou, then you must be very tired. I'll ask Selena to come over and prepare a nice relaxing bath for you," she said, and I knew mom wouldn't rest without planning something like this for a day.
"No, mom, it's not needed. I'll be fine after dinner," I said, and she followed me to my room.
"Stop following me, please." I stopped my track when she was about to enter my room, and I held the door half open.
"We have to talk, Gaston."
"Mum," I whine.
"You know what? I'm your mom, and I insist you marry Selena and make her the Luna of our pack," she started.
I sighed.
"If I give you an answer, will you promise to leave me alone tonight?"
"Yes," she said with a nod.
I smirked. "No," I said, quickly closing the door because I knew she'd start an argument.
She kept on whaling at my door and asking me to open the door for her.
I freshened up and went downstairs for dinner; thankfully, my mom was mostly quiet during dinner. While eating, a message popped up on my phone reminding me of a doctor appointment.
I don't remember meeting the doctor for anything; I'm perfectly fine. Unless..
My eyes flicker towards my mom; she's definitely behind this. I can tell from the smile on her face.
"Mum?"
"Sweetie, no talking while eating," she teases.
"Cut the chase, mom. What's this about?" I face my phone screen to her, showing her the doctor appointment set for tomorrow morning.
"These past few days, you've been acting really strange and distracted. I was worried, and I know you won't tell me if I ask you, so just do Mummy a favour and run the checkup," she says.
"I'm not a little kid, mom. I know how to handle myself. If something is wrong with me, it's my problem," I snapped, and she started giving me the look she always does for me to feel bad for her.
"I'm sorry, I was just caring for my son. All I ask is for your medical checkup, just to keep my mind at ease," she says sadly, and I flare my nose and work my jaw.
I hate it when she does that. She knows I can't watch her sad, so she takes advantage of my weakness.
"I'll do the stupid checkup."
And she beamed with joy.
