Chapter 14
Tara POV
This is the last straw. I can't take this disrespect anymore. I was fuming with anger as I tried to ignore the baby kicks in my stomach.
Chad has drawn the line: how could he do this to his own family? If he doesn't act like a proper husband should, at least he should have acted like a caring father.
Since the day at the hospital, Chad hasn't really spoken to me about anything, but my heart is in so much pain. Does he really hate me that much to not care about his own child?
I was in the garden, soothing my little swollen belly as I gently swung back and forth on the garden swing.
I'm trying as much not to think about the bad things Chad is doing to me, but somehow it pains my heart to the extent that I can't stop thinking about it.
The worst part is that he hasn't come home for the past five days.
At first, I was damn worried because he didn't leave me any message that he'd be sleeping outside or that he'd not be coming back home for a while.
When I called his office, they said they hadn't heard from him in a while. I was shocked.
I was nearly about to call the police because I thought he was missing or something, but luckily I remembered he has a very close friend, Mark, and I called him over, and he managed to put my mind at ease, telling me Chad is on an urgent matter and he'll return home immediately.
Yesterday was the fifth day he didn't sleep home last night. I wonder what is more important than his own family. I'm still angry, though. His actions aren't justified yet.
He just left without saying anything or at least calling me. When he comes back, he should better have a good and convincing excuse to shut me up, because I'm not going to let him off the hook this time.
"Ma'am," Claire said, bowing a little as she stood in front of me.
"Claire, how many times did I tell you that you don't need to be formal with me?" I said to her nicely.
Thanks to Claire, she made my pregnancy less painful for me; she takes good care of me, and I get relief when she's around. Gosh, this pregnancy is just two months old, and it's this heavy. I wonder what I'll look like when it's nine months old. I chuckled at how big the baby would be.
"It would be better if I did," she said, and I sighed.
"I won't force you, so what do you want?" I asked.
"Sir is back," she said, and I suddenly got angry.
"I'll come join him later." I didn't want to see Chad in this condition, not when I'm angry.
"He's also with a guest," Claire added, and I was confused.
The only person Chad brings to our house is his best friend, Mark. He doesn't allow anyone else.
"Who could it be?" I asked no one in particular.
"I don't know her, ma'am."
"She's a her?" I asked in shock.
She nods, and I was still wondering who she could be.
"You may leave," I told her, and I came down from the swing and headed to the entrance.
That's when I saw Chad and the girl. Chad was being too clingy to the lady.
They both ignored me like I was some kind of ghost. That does it.
"Chad!" I called out my so-called husband's name.
"What do you want, Tara? I'm not in the mood for conversation," he said nonchalantly, and the lady rolled her eyes.
Is this man out of his senses?
"What do I want?!" I snapped.
"Yes"
"You've been away from home for five days; you have a wife and an unborn child, and you didn't bother telling me about it."
I didn't want to shout much because of the baby.
"Save your breath, Tara; you can see that I'm perfectly fine," he shrugged.
I scoffed. "You left me in this condition without telling me your whereabouts, and you only care about yourself."
"I don't have energy for this, Tara; my guest is tired, and she needs rest."
"Where is your guest from?" I eyed the sassy lady.
"You ask too many questions." Tara, it's not good for your condition. Go rest, and we can talk better over breakfast tomorrow."
I knew he didn't have a reason for his actions; he was always like this.
I was about to complain more when the lady spoke.
"Ah, Chad, my back. I need to get some sleep. Could you please escort me to my room?" the lady complained, and I got worried.
She held her back in pain.
"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. I'm hoping she's not in pain.
"That's what I'm trying to tell you, Tara. She's a friend of mine from abroad, and she got into an accident on her way to the hotel. I was the only one she knew around, so she called me, and I was with her in the hospital. Now she needs to recover, and I still need to take care of her, so I'll be with her in the room every night until she's ready to leave," Chad says, and I finally understood why he did what he had to do.
The lady winced, and I felt bad for her.
"Ou, I'm so sorry," I said, and they left me as Chad supported the woman on her way to the guest room.
That night they locked the guest room, and Chad said she's already sleeping and he had to be around in case she needed help.
And another night I slept without my husband, and my husband is in a guest room alone with a woman I don't know.
I'm sure I'm not going to get any sleep knowing my husband is in another room with a beautiful lady.
