Chapter 26

Gaston POV

I was so pissed off that I couldn't take my mom's drama anymore. She always complains about everything I do.

Why does she have so many problems with Tara? First, she scolded me every second about looking for my mate, then she said I should find a Luna for our pack; that wasn't enough for her. She brought Selena into my life, who has always been obsessed with me and disgusted me from the start. But I fucked up hard by impregnating a prostitute, and now that prostitute is the mother of the next alpha in my pack. If this matter gets out, people won't respect my pack anymore. Now I need to punish the woman who left my child on the stray list and also find a new mother for my baby.

I don't want my child to grow up without a caring mother. I had to find someone to take care of him very well, and Tara seems like a perfect figure for that, although I don't trust her completely. "She'll be the new caretaker for my baby," I said. Tara dropped a very expensive sculpture on the floor, and everyone gazed at her. She quickly carried the sculpture and placed it back; she looked as if she were caught in a criminal act. "Uhm..I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to." "You're right on time, Tara; please come." I cut her off. She took small steps and entered the living room, looking somehow scared. "I wanted to ask you if you'd do me an honour to take care of my baby," I said casually, and she smiled a little.

I remembered her saying she had nowhere to stay, and I didn't want her to go around without anywhere to stay. I'll feel bad and guilty if anything happens to her.
She was still thinking about it, and I added, "You can resign when you want to leave." "I'll take the job; besides, I don't have a choice," she said. "You do, actually; you can leave," Selena said, and Gaston sent a warning glare. "Victoria, thanks for your service, but you aren't doing your job properly. My baby isn't comfortable around you, so I'll have to let you go." "I understand, sir," she said with a small nod. "Your salary will be paid as well as your compensation fee," I said, and she left. Tara had a smirk on her face, and I could tell she was happy. My mom walked up to me. "Gaston," "as long as this woman stays in this house, she will remain only a nanny to the baby; no further relationship, and you know what I mean," she said and walked away. I knew exactly what she meant. She doesn't want me to impregnate another woman and create more burdens for us. I followed them behind to the dining room to eat breakfast. "I'm sorry you fought with your mom because of me," Tara said softly, and I smiled. "It's fine, she'll get used to you; just take care of my baby," I said, and she nodded. We reached the dining room, and I pulled out the closet chair beside the head of the table where I sat. My mom and Selena looked at us with dislike. "What's his name?" She asked, and I realised I hadn't given him a name. My mom heard it, and it caught her attention. "I made a list of nice names for him, but I couldn't choose a particular one." "Mum?" "What?" "He's my child; I'll name him myself," I said straight forward, and I saw anger evidence on her face and her nose flares. I noticed Tara was lost in thought, and I had to ask quietly so my mom wouldn't start another argument. "What are you thinking of?" I asked quietly. I snapped her out of her deep thoughts, and she shook her head, saying it was nothing. "I can't think of a good name for my baby; what do you think?" I asked her, and she eyed me. "I'm sorry, but I don't think I'm in a position to make decisions for you or anyone in this house," she said quietly, and I could tell she felt uncomfortable with the stares she was getting from Selena and my mom. "I'm asking you; just tell me," I said, but she was still doubtful. "Please?" I added. She swallowed the food in her mouth, and her eyes peered. "What about Lucian?" She said it with so much love and a little bit of sadness. My eyes narrow. "I knew you wouldn't like it; just forget," she says, continuing to eat her food. "The name is perfect, Tara." Her eyes gleamed. "You think so?" she asked, surprised. I nod with a smile, and she shifts her gaze back to her plate to cover her light red cheeks. So cute. "Everyone," I called, "my child's name is Lucian." Selena had a fake smile on, and I didn't care while my mom wrinkled her nose. "Of all names, Gaston? You can only find Lucian." She asked. "Yes, that's the perfect name; you may proceed with your food," I said, ending the conversation. "Lucian, I can get used to it," my mom said with a shrug. We finished the food, and as I stood up to leave, Tara did something that shocked us all. Suddenly, she picked up my suit jacket and brought it to my back for me to put on, and then she realised what she had just done. Selena stood up furiously, and my mom didn't like the looks of it. Tara froze, and I had to do something about the situation. I inserted my hands into the jacket and turned to see her. "I'm sorry, I didn't know what got into me," she said rather quickly. "Thanks; no one has done that for me." I said, "I'm going to work now. I'll be back as soon as I'm done. Take care." I said that and left. ******* Tara watched Gaston leave the house, and she felt really insecure. While Tara was about to take her leave, Gaston's mom called. "Tara," "don't forget your place in this house; you are just and simply a nanny to Lucian." Tara listens to her and continues her journey to the baby's room.
