Chapter 26
Gaston wonders what kind of method Tara is using to put the baby's cries at ease.
He didn't want his baby to be carried by any prostitute, not even the baby's mother, who also includes Tara, but the baby yarn for Tara's attention.
When Gaston saw that the baby wanted to start crying again, he quickly passed the baby to Tara so he wouldn't cry again.
Tara's heart patches as she cradles the baby in her arm. She feels connected to the baby, but she doesn't know how; she still thought it was her imagination.
Gaston watches them, confused and surprised. The baby was so comfortable in her embrace, and he was bemused. No matter the things they do for the child, he's always crying, but just because he saw Tara, he smiled.
When Tara asked for the child's mother, he clenched his jaw and remembered the terrible woman who left his baby without a care in the world.
"His mother left him," Gaston said with anger.
"Why would someone do that? That's heartless. The baby looks so innocent, and he's craving his mother's love." Tara stopped when she realised she was talking too much.
The nanny and Gaston looked at Tara weirdly. They didn't know why she was worried so much about the baby.
The baby laughed with Tara, and as she was feeding him, Gaston's mother, Nora, walked in, and Tara was shaking on her knees.
"Good morning," Tara greeted her with respect.
Nora smiles, and the lady behind her glares.
"You finally brought the mother of the child and your."
"No, Mom, you are mistaken; she's just a guest." He cuts his mom off, and Nora's smile fades instantly, and the lady behind him smirks.
Nora looked at the sleeping baby in Tara's embrace.
"If she's a guest, she shouldn't be doing the nanny's work, huh?" Selena said, and Tara was thinking about who the sassy lady was.
"The baby was crying, and he won't stop until she pets him," Victoria said.
"He was crying for Tara's attention, so I allowed her to carry him," Gaston said lightly, and Nora wasn't happy at all.
She finally thought Gaston had brought Luna to the pack, but she was wrong. Tara looked like a good model for Gaston's wife, and Nora was disappointed that she was wrong.
"Gaston, we need to talk," Nora said with all seriousness, leaving the room furiously.
Gaston glances at his child, then back at Tara.
"I'll see you soon," he said sweetly, leaving the room as Tara looked at Selena and the nanny bluntly.
Selena sent death glares at her because she thought Tara was another obstacle for her to marry her crush, Gaston.
She dropped the baby in his small baby rocket cradle and turned to Selena.
"I guess you're better than the nanny at her nanny job," she said rudely, flickering her hair over her shoulder.
Tara already got a hint that Selena didn't like her at all, but she didn't know why.
"Thank you, ma'am," said the nanny, thanking Tara.
"My pleasure," she said, and she left.
She didn't know where she was going, but she just wanted to see Gaston. She thought that she must have done something to make Gaston's mom call Gaston in anger.
She then stopped when she heard Nora's loud voice in the dining room.
"You need to bring back the mother of the child, or you can provide one." Nora's voice echoed in the room like it was attached to a speaker, and from the corner of the room, she saw Selena smiling darkly at the scenario.
Tara felt like she was invading their privacy, but she couldn't resist eavesdropping.
"Mom, you're making things harder for me than they already are," Gaston said calmly as he used his fingers to massage his temples.
"You didn't take care of your other responsibilities, and now you created more for yourself." Nora successfully made Gaston's morning ruinous with all this nagging.
Tara watched him, and she really didn't like the way he was feeling when his mom nagged him nonstop.
"Mum, please just give me a little more time; I'll make it up to you," he said.
"Please don't nag Gaston; he's already feeling pressured from his baby encounter," Selena said, and Tara suspected that she was pretending.
He rolled his eyes. "How many times am I going to tell you to stay out of my private conversation with my mom, Selena?"
"I was just trying to..."
"No, I don't need you for anything, ever, so stay away from me," he snapped.
"You don't have to snap at her, Gaston; she's just trying to help all the girls you've met or slept with; she's the only one that stayed with you. Even when you treat her badly, she still backs you up," Nora said, and Gaston rolled his eyes.
He knew Selena was only being nice to him so she could be Luna.
"I don't need her mother," he said with clenched teeth.
"I didn't call you to talk about Selena; I called you for the baby and your guest," she said in an air quote''.
"What about them?"
"After what you did to that baby, didn't it teach you a lesson?"
Gaston sighed.
"You're still hooking up with all this prostitute stuff."
"She's not like them!" For the first time, Gaston snapped at his mom's. "She's just a nice and decent girl."
"How are you sure she's not pretending?" Selena said, and he growled.
Tara was actually touched that Gaston backed her up, but she was a bit shaken when he growled.
"Don't cross your boundaries, Selena; not everyone is like you," he points out, and Selena is embarrassed.
"Mom, I don't know much about her, but she's not that kind of person, and she'll be staying in this house from now on."
"I won't allow it!" Nora snapped.
"You have to, mom."
Tara didn't know why he wanted her to stay so badly, but a part of her didn't want to leave the baby or Gaston.
"Give me one reason why I'll allow her to stay."
He had to think fast because he didn't want Tara to leave.
"She'll be my baby's new caretaker."
Gaston said, and everyone was shocked as Tara, who accidentally knocked down a stainless steel sculpture, drew attention towards her.
