Chapter 29

Chad POV

I couldn't believe what I discovered. Tara had moved on so quickly. She is living with Gaston now, and from what I'd gathered, they were getting cosy. My plan to keep her trapped in a loveless marriage had failed, but I wasn't ready to give up.

I stared at the documents spread across my desk, my mind reeling. Tara's past was shrouded in secrecy, but I'd finally uncovered the truth.

She was a half-blooded wolf, born of a legendary lineage. Her ancestors possessed powers beyond imagination.

The Blood Moon pack.

My eyes narrowed. I had to get her back, no matter the cost. Her abilities would make her unstoppable, and I couldn't let that happen.

Not when I'd invested so much in controlling her. I knew that in order for me to get that slut Tara back, I'd have to be in the mansion, but I knew that Gaston would kill me at first sight, so instead I got an ally that had almost the same purpose as me.

Selena walked in, a sly smile on her face. As I sat in my dimly lit apartment, sipping whisky, I plotted my next move. Selena, my loyal accomplice, sat beside me, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Chad, what's got you so intense?"

I handed her the documents. "Tara's true identity. She's a half-blooded wolf."

Selena's eyes widened. "This changes everything. Also, these past two weeks, I noticed Tara and Gaston bonding gradually, and the baby is bringing them closer."

"This is bad," I said; my voice was cold as I tightened my grip on the cup. "We need to accelerate a plan. Get her back before her powers awaken."

Selena's grin grew wider. "Yes, but what do you think?"

"We need to drive a wedge between Tara and Gaston," I said, my mind racing. "Make her doubt his intentions, his love."

Selena nodded, her expression calculated, as she sipped her coffee. "Leave that to me. I've been thinking... Tara's vulnerable right now. She's still reeling from the divorce and Gaston's sweepingly romantic gestures. But what if she starts to wonder if it's all too good to be true?"

We spent hours strategising, refining our tactics. Selena would manipulate Tara's emotions, fuelling her doubts about Gaston. Selena would pose as a concerned friend, warning Tara about Gaston's supposed dark past.

Meanwhile, I'd work on undermining Gaston's influence, making Tara question his intentions.

But as we put our plan into action, I sensed a shift in the dynamics. Gaston seemed more determined than ever.

And Tara...she was beginning to remember.

Flashes of her past life flickered in her eyes, and I knew time was running out.

I had to claim her before her powers unleashed or risk losing control forever.

The stakes were higher than ever.

Days passed, and Selena's manipulation took hold. Tara's doubts grew.

But Gaston countered every move, reassuring Tara of his love. But Gaston wasn't one to underestimate. He had resources and connections. If he discovered our plan...

I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the endgame. Tara, back in my arms, where she belonged.

Gaston, however, remained vigilant. He countered every move, reassuring Tara of his love.

Frustration gnawed at me. Why couldn't Tara just come back to my door and beg for my forgiveness?

While I was lost in thought, I received an unexpected call from Gaston. His voice was low, menacing.

"Stay away from Tara, Chad. You're playing with fire."

My blood ran cold, but I maintained my composure.

"Or what?" I sneered, hanging up.

Fury burnt within me. How dare he? Most importantly, how'd he know I was on to Tara? Did Selena snitch on me? No, no, no, she can't be stupid enough to make such a foolish move. Then how?

I needed a new plan before I missed my shot. I dialled Selena's number immediately.

"Selena, it's time to escalate," I said, my voice low. "Gaston is suspicious already."

Selena's voice sounds husky and sounds like she was already asleep. "What did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking we could put some of the lies to reality."

Selena's laughter sent a chill down my spine. "You mean, you're going to set Gaston up?"

"Exactly."

"That's completely impossible. Chad, he's not the type to fall for a trap; he's always cautious. You trying to set him up sounds like you're digging your own grave or more of a suicide mission." She laughed at me silently.

"We'll use his beloved, Tara, as bait," I said, and she hummed.

"And you're sure we aren't going to get busted and Gaston will dispose of Tara?"

"Hundred percent Selena."

"As long as it's going to make that girl lose interest and not go to harm him in any way, I'll do it."

But then, something unexpected happened.

Gaston took Tara on a trip away from the city. Away from me.

No.

I couldn't let them escape.

"Why'd he take her away from me?" I asked Selena angrily.

"Gaston was invited to a birthday party of an alpha he respects, so he went and decided to take Tara and Lucian; Nora is tagging along as well," Selena says, and she sounded dissatisfied. "I wanted to go with them, but Gaston refused and objected. I was only allowed to go with them after that oldie Nora said I should, and even with that, Gaston opposed but gave in because of his mother."

"So where are you now?" I growled. "I need to know where Tara is."

Selena's voice remained calm. "Calm down, Chad. We arrived at the hotel reservation already. I just got into my hotel room. I don't know where everyone is until I check for them."

"Then what's taking you so long?"

"This call," she snapped and hung up.

This annoying girl!

Hours passed, and Selena finally reported back.

"Chad I hate to say this, but Gaston and Tara are staying in the same hotel room!" Selena's voice was restless.

"Wait, what?"

"Worst of all, both of them went out and left Lucian for Nora."

I clenched my phone in my hands and threw it across the room. I thought I had already driven a wedge between their relationship; how come they are getting closer?

The game had just intensified.
