Chapter 19

"I agree. It's all just crazy talk" she said and we turned in her direction.

The clicking of her heels against the tiled floor irritated my ears.

"Oh, hey Vi" Bree greeted her and she smiled back at her while I dug my nails into my palm and forced out a greeting too.

"Good morning" I said and she forced a smile in my direction.

Cue the awkwardness. Well, maybe for just me and her.
Bree didn't seem to notice anything.

"Would you like a cup of coffee?" Bree asked her and I almost kicked her leg. I would have to be the one to serve it to her if she said yes.

Violet took one look at me and the coffee jug and she smiled brightly.

"Hm, yes please" she said and I rolled my eyes.

I decided to play her game with her and forced a smile too.

"One cup of coffee, coming right up" I said as I grabbed a cup and served her.

"Thanks" she said and I smiled in response.

The air was awkward now and there was nothing we could all talk about. She strikes up a conversation with Bree and as much as Bree tried to involve me in it, Violet somehow made sure to push me out of it. What was this childish behavior?

I sighed uncomfortably. This was intentional. It was written all over her face. I was going to have any fun over her dead body.

Okay, by now, the coffee in my cup had grown cold and I was ready to go back upstairs.

I stood up, trying to make a subtle exit.
"I'm going to go upstairs," I said, attempting to sound casual.

Bree nodded, engrossed in her conversation with Violet.
"Okay, see you later" she said.

I walked out of the kitchen, feeling Violet's gaze on me. As I climbed the stairs, I could sense her eyes following me, but I didn't look back.

Once I reached my room, I flopped down on my bed, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling that lingered inside me.
What exactly was the bitch's problem? And why did she seem so determined to make me uncomfortable? I didn't even know her before coming here.

Just as I was starting to relax, I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in," I said, expecting it to be Bree.

But to my surprise, it was Violet. She walked in, a small smile on her face, and closed the door behind her.

"What do you want?" I asked, as I sat up. I tried to sound neutral but I was sure I sounded anything but.

Violet shrugged, walking over to the vanity table and picking up one of the bottles there and turning it in her hands.

"I just wanted to talk to you about something." she said.

I raised an eyebrow, wary.
"What is it?" I asked, getting slightly ticked off that she was fiddling with my things.

Violet leaned against the table, her eyes fixed on me.
"I think we need to clear the air about something." she said and I sighed before urging her to go on.

"Yeah?" I said and she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Where were you last night?" She asked and I frowned slightly. Shit, did she find out?

"How is that any of your business?" I asked, feigning anger to cover up my fear, but really, how was it any of her business?.

"I know you were alone in this house with Jason" she said and I sighed in relief.

Thank goodness. She didn't know.

"I was? I didn't even know that. I could have sworn I heard Polina's voice last night" I said, seemingly lost in thought.

"Anyway, what does this have to do with anything?" I asked and she rolled her eyes.

"Don't fucking play dumb with me bitch. What did you do with Jason last night?" She asked and you see, normally, I might have been frightened but I knew she was bluffing because if she truly knew what happened yesterday, she would know we went out last night. But she didn't and she was just trying to see if I had anything with Jason.

"Wait, what? Ew, what are you trying to say?" I asked, visibly taken aback. Fake, of course.

"You know what I mean" she said, her voice rising slightly as she stood upright.

"Jason is Bree's father. I'm not sure what the hell it is that you are insinuating but I would forgive and forget everything that you said if you get the hell out of my room this instant" I said and she froze for a second.

"You pretender. I'll find out everything myself. But this is just a warning to you. Jason does not have time for little kids like you. He'll use and dump you as quickly as lightning" she said and I scoffed.

The words hit me but I wasn't going to dwell on them at that moment.

"And he has time for people like you? You're talking like someone who was rejected and just wouldn't take no for an answer" I said and even I was surprised. It was crazy but I wasn't drunk or anything, so how.

She gasped.
"I'll have you know that he's my boyfriend" she said and I froze, taken aback.

Boyfriend? But I thought… I knew I should have asked last night when I had the chance. Fuck. I felt a stab to my chest.

"Right" I said, and rolled my eyes.

"Then tell me why you're so worried about a college student" I said and she narrowed her eyes at me.

"I'm just watching out for sluts that want my man." She said and I scoffed, before standing up to match her stance. I didn't like how she was looking down at me.

"Well, I'm not a fucking mirror." I said and she froze, trying to understand what I meant.

"Wait, are you fucking calling me a slut?" She asked and I nodded.

"What? It's not a problem when you call me that but it's a problem when I do?" I asked and she huffed.

"Damn, so you are a slut and a hypocrite" I said and she looked at me in disbelief.

"Look, just stay out of my way" she said and I groaned again.

"What the fuck do you want from me?! I'm not even in your way. I should be telling you that. You've been all up in my space since I got here. Why are you determined to make my stay here hell?" I finally asked the question that had been burning my mind since I met her.

"Because you are a slut" she said hey again and I face palmed. Literally. Because how could someone be so dumb?

"Do you not have any other words in your dictionary?" I asked and she rolled her eyes.

"I do but that one suits you best" she said and I raised a brow.

"How? You don't even know anything about me" I said and she shrugged.

"There's proof everywhere. For example, what happened on the beach. If you were not such a slut in the first place, that would not have happened to you" she said and I looked at her in sheer disbelief, before walking towards her.

"Okay lady. You just crossed a line. Now, before I haul your stupid ass out of my room, get the fuck out!" I shouted at her and watched as she cowered back but then tried to cover it up.

"You don't -" she started to say but I was literally boiling over the edge.

"Get the fuck out!" I yelled at her and she huffed, a subtle attempt to mask the fear that clouded her features.

"This is not over" she said before basically running out of my room, her heels clicking in haste against the tiled floor and then slamming the door behind her.

"Fucking asshole" I muttered before falling to my knees, my eyes watering up.
I knew everything she said wasn't true but it was just too much to bear.

I cradled myself as I cried my pain away.
