Chapter 34
Andy's POV
The tension between Justin and I had been thick for days now, it was just two days to be exact since whatever had happened. I tried so hard to avoid him but it seemed like every time I turned around, he was there either staring at me or bumping into me. The cabin was too small, and no matter where I went, there he was. I couldn’t escape the fact that we had kissed, and now, every interaction felt strained and heavy with things unsaid.
Tonight, Bree suggested we watch a movie together in the living room. I couldn’t exactly say no without it being obvious that I was avoiding Jason, and Bree didn’t need to know that and I didn’t want her thinking I didn’t want to spend time with her. So, I agreed. We sat on the couch and Bree decided that we should watch some romantic comedy and we all agreed since it was her idea we watch a movie in the first place. I could tell Jason’s presence but I tried so hard to ignore that his eyes were on me.
“I will go make popcorn,” I said suddenly as I stood up while Bree was still looking for the prefect movie.
“Good idea!” Bree said, smiling up at me. “I could use some.”
“I’ll help,” Violet said from her seat near the window, and though her tone was casual, something about it made my stomach tighten. I definitely did not want her help nor could I deal with any of the stupid comments she made at me. But I couldn’t say no so I just nodded and walked to the kitchen.
The moment we were alone, far from the others, Violet dropped the act.
“So,” she started saying as she leaned against the counter as I reached for the corn and started prepping it to make the popcorn. “What do you think you are doing?” She asked.
“Making popcorn?” I replied as I looked at her with confusion written all over my face.
“You and I both know that you know that’s not what I’m talking about,” she let out, her Boyce filled with anger. She stepped closer, crossing her arms. “You’re still trying to hit on my boyfriend.”
There it was. I looked at her and raise a brow as I kept my expression neutral even though my heart started fearing faster.
“I still do not know what you’re talking about, Violet.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Don’t try to act oblivious, Andy. I see the way you act around him and I see how his eyes are always on you. But let me make this clear-Jason is mine.”
I swallowed, my mind racing. She still believed that Jason was her boyfriend? That was almost laughable, especially after everything he’d told me. But I wasn’t about to let her bait me into some petty argument. I was done playing games.
“Violet,” I said coolly. “Stop being delusional. Jason is not even your boyfriend.”
“What makes you say that?” she snapped, stepping even closer, her voice rising. “You don’t even know him. You just got here.”
“I know enough,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. “Enough to know you’re going too much over a man who does not give two shits about you. Whatever happened between you both is in the past, so let it remain there.”
Her face turned red with anger at my words.
“How dare you? You think you are so special huh?” She asked angrily and I just shrugged. “You think you can come in here and try to take what’s mine?”
I rolled my eyes as I turned towards the stovetop and poured oil into the pan for the popcorn.
“Look, I don’t know why you feel so threatened by me, but you need to stop,” I said to you. “You are way bigger than that.”
“Threatened?” She let out with a scoff. “You think I’m threatened by you this little thing?” She asked with a voice filled with bitterness.
“I don’t think so, I know so,” I replied as I turned towards her. “Because if it was not so, you definitely would not be acting like this.”
She opened her mouth to say something, to argue but no words came out. Instead, she clenched her teeth and stared at me with a mix of anger and jealousy. Jealousy as to why? I didn’t know. I don’t know what was in her head about her relationship with Jason and I honestly didn’t care but I would not let her stand there and spill nonsense.
“Whatever you think it is that is going on,” I spoke up again. “It is not. And to set it straight, I am not interested in getting between you both or your relationship. But you should know Jason does not give two fucks about you.”
Her face turned into one an expression of disbelief as if I had just said something stupid. She looked like she wanted to argue but she didn’t. Instead, she just shook her head, a bitter smile crossing her lips.
“Fine,” she said, her voice cold. “Be delusional, believe what you want but don’t think I don’t know what you are doing.”
I didn’t answer. I didn’t need to. I had says what I wanted to and I didn’t have any more energy to waste talking to her over something so stupid. I turned back to the popcorn and tried to finish up with it.
A few minutes later, the popcorn was done and I poured it into the bowls before I headed back to the living room.
“I’m going back to watch the movie,” I said to her, my voice calm and neutral. “You can stay here if you want.”
Violet didn’t reply, she just watched me as I left the kitchen, staring daggers at my head.
“Thank you,” Bree said as I handed her a bowl of popcorn as she dug in with her eyes still glued to the screen.
I walked to Jason and he looked up, his eyes were lingering on me for a while. I handed him the second bowl without meeting his eyes, then took my seat beside Bree. I immediately started feeling tense again, from the argument with Violet and Jason’s eyes on me.
I could still feel his eyes on me from time to time but I tried to focus on the movie as I settled in.
