Chapter 39
Andy's POV
After we walked out of the room where Jason and Violet were standing, we headed to our room to get dressed. I wondered what was happening in the room before we got there because the air was so tense and I don't think I have ever seen Jason look so pissed. I pushed the thoughts aside as I wore my clothes and went downstairs to meet Bree who was waiting for me in the car.
When I entered the car, the driver started the car and we headed to the mall. The mall was crowded but Bree and I headed to her favorite store to get what we were there for. I was sitting as I watched Bree as she went through racks on racks of cloth.
She had that look in her eyes- the one that told me she was not going to rest until she had found her perfect dress. I got up and started helping her check too, not being able to resist the happiness that was radiating off of her.
“This one?” Bree held up a short floral sundress, tilting her head as she assessed it.
I squinted. “It’s cute. Simple. And it’s just a casual date, right?”
Bree shot me a playful but exasperated look. “Andy, there’s no such thing as just a casual date. Especially not when it’s with a guy as attractive as Dominic.”
I laughed. “You’re overthinking it.”
“No, you’re under thinking it!” Bree huffed dramatically, clutching the sundress like it personally offended her.
“He’s taking me to dinner, not an ice cream truck. This isn’t just some random outing, it’s a big thing. It has to be good. No- it has to be perfect.” she said and I giggled.
“You make it sound like you’re dressing for royalty.” I rolled my eyes but couldn’t suppress a grin.
Bree returned a mischievous smile, hanging the dress back on the rack.
“Well, he might as well be royalty with how good he looks.” she pointed out.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Okay, okay, fair point.”
Bree went back to searching through the rack. She pulled out a black dress and held it to herself. She turned to look at the mirror to check if she liked it.
“Hmm, I think I like this. What do you think?” She asked as she turned to me.
I walked to her so I could look at the dress more closely. It was beautiful and daring just like Bree. But …
“I think it looks good. But isn’t it just a little too much for a first date?” I asked thoughtfully.
Bree groaned and threw her head back dramatically.
“Andy, the goal is to leave an impression. And what if I told you Dominic’s one of those guys who likes to keep things classy? What then?” she asked.
I looked at her as I arched my brow. “Did he say that?”
“No. But I just… have a feeling.” She twirled the dress around, lost in thought.
“Anyway, if I show up looking average, what kind of message does that send?” she asked.
“That you’re a normal human being?” I teased, earning a playful shove from her.
“This is a date, Andy,” Bree insisted, her tone half-serious, half-joking. “Not a grocery run.”
I folded my arms across my chest as I smiled at her wittiness. “So what are you planning? You show up looking like a movie star and sweep Dominic off his feet?”
“Exactly,” Bree said with a grin. “Now you’re getting it.”
I chuckled as she tossed the black dress aside, already diving into the next rack of clothes. Going shopping with Bree was more of a task than it was fun but I always enjoyed it because she always had a reason for why something would fit or not.
She bright out another dress but this one was shiny and emerald green in color. “What about this one?”
I gasped as I stared at the shiny dress.
“Now this, this is beautiful,” I said as I nodded my head in approval.
Bree smiled at my words but she looked at me suspiciously. “Are you just saying that to get this over with faster?”
“Maybe a little,” I admitted with a grin. “But honestly, it looks great. And it’s perfect for dinner.”
Bree held the dress against herself, giving it a little shake. “Hmm, it does feel right.”
“There you go,” I said. “Mission accomplished.”
But Bree wasn’t quite done. “Okay, but does it say ‘I’m interested but not desperate?’”
I laughed, shaking my head. “Bree it’s just a dress and not some kind of message.”
“I know,” she replied as she let out a dramatic sigh. “I just don’t want to seem like I'm doing way too much,” she added as she held the dress tightly.
I moved to her and cupped her face as I smiled at her.
“Don’t think like that. You’ve got this and you would look stunning no matter what you put on, even if it's a garbage bag,” I teased her and she laughed.
Bree gave me a grateful smile, finally relaxing a bit. “Okay, okay. I think we’ve got a winner.”
We headed toward the fitting rooms, where Bree tried on the dress to confirm it was the right fit. The way it hugged her figure and shimmered under the light? Dominic did not know what was coming for him.
“Perfect,” I said as she walked out of the dressing room.
She smiled as she turned around in front of the mirror. “I love it. This is it. This is the dress.”
We didn’t waste any more time. We took the dress to the register, and Bree practically skipped her way through the checkout line, grinning from ear to ear. I was still amazed at how excited she was.
“What time tomorrow did he say he is going to pick you up?” I asked as the cashier packed our bags.
Bree’s eyes sparkled. “Seven. He said he’d text me when he’s on his way.”
I smiled. “I can’t remember the last time I saw you this excited over a guy.”
“Well you can't blame me. He's a different breed” Bree said dreamily. “Have you seen him? He’s practically a Greek god.”
“Yeah, yeah. I remember.” I laughed. “Let’s just hope his personality is as good as he looks.”
Bree winked. “Oh, I’m sure it matches.”
After we paid for the dress, we walked out of the store and got some ice cream like she had promised me before we headed to the car. Bree was holding on to the shopping bags like her life depended on it as she walked excitedly to the car.
“Today was amazing,” she said with a big smile as she looked at me.
“Yes it was,” I replied in agreement. “A very good day.”
When we got to the car, Bree walked over to the other side before saying, “I cannot wait for tomorrow to come so I can see his reaction to my dress.”
I smiled as I shook my head in surprise, happy that she was happy. “Don’t worry, he is going to love it on you,” I let out.
“What if he doesn’t?” Bree asked with a playful smirk.
“Then he doesn’t deserve to be seen with you,” I replied her and we both burst into laughter as she agreed with me.
We got into the car and headed to the house. Bree kept on talking about her date and how she expected it to be while I listened intently and I could not help but feel excited for her.
When we finally got to the house, we both got out the car. Bree rushed over to me and took my hand as she started pulling me towards the house.
“Come on, Andy. We need to plan the rest of the night!”
I laughed, following her inside. “I don’t think you need my help for that.“
“Well, true but it would be more fun if you’re there and helping,” she replied with a big grin on her face as we walked to the house.
