Chapter 44
Andy's POV
When we got home from the mall yesterday, I had filled Bree in on everything I had planned and we worked it to perfection. It was finally the day Rosalie was going to come over, she had texted me and said she would be coming over. She didn’t even want to waste any time, I was in Bree’s room when I had gotten the message and I showed it to her as we both laughed at her desperation.
I woke up that morning feeling refreshed and praying that day was going to go like Bree and I had planned. Everywhere was calm and quiet and it felt like this was the only moment of peace we were going to enjoy before Rosalie showed up.
I didn’t have to wait long before the doorbell rang, loud and intrusive. Bree threw me a look- half amused, half skeptical- before making her way to the door.
As she opened it, standing there was Rosalie and beside her was Peter. The stupid girl had the audacity to show up and even brought her stupid boyfriend along with her.
I swallowed. A part of me still stung from the betrayal. It was so crazy how you could go from loving someone so much to just hating their very existence.
I groaned as I watched them. They were glancing around like starved animals, eyes wide with envy as they took in the sight of Bree’s house. Their gaze lingered too long on the elegant decor and the expensive details scattered throughout. They looked so hungry for a slice of it all that it made my stomach churn.
Bree let out a soft chuckle, folding her arms as if she were welcoming actors to a show she had been eagerly anticipating.
“You didn’t say you were going to him along,” Bree said in a bitter voice as she eyed both of them with a malicious smile on her face before she composed herself.
“So, are you guys coming in, or are you just here to sightsee?” she asked dryly.
Rosalie gave her a sugary smile, the kind that I knew was anything but sweet. “Of course and I’m so sorry I didn’t mention it but he just can’t let me out of his sight. Thanks for having us.”
I stood beside the entrance, lips pressed in a thin line, and gestured toward the living room. “Come in.”
They walked in, their eyes flicking over every surface, every item like they were mentally cataloging it all. I could practically feel them calculating the worth of the space, thinking how nice it would be to have all of this for themselves.
When they finally settled on the couch, Rosalie crossed her legs and gave me a practiced smile.
“So, Andy let’s clear the air and settle everything,” she started saying, her voice sweet and fake.
“Like I said to you countless times, you know things do not have to be like this between us. We were best friends once. Are you really going to throw all of that away because of a boy?” she asked.
The nerve of this girl!
I held back a scoff, my hands curling into loose fists.
“Don’t be mistaken, Rosalie. We are not friends, well not anymore.” I said.
She rolled her eyes.
“So what? You're really going to replace me with Bree?” she asked, her eyes darting to her.
It was my turn to roll my eyes.
“I didn’t replace you. Bree has always been a better friend than you ever were.” I said.
Rosalie’s smile faltered, her eyes flashing with frustration.
“Oh” she said with a sad face and with the way she said it, someone who didn’t know about her would think she was innocent and I was the bad one.
I bent my head to the side and gave her a cold smile as I spoke up in a shockingly sweet voice.
“Yup” I said, popping the ‘p’.
Peter, who had been quiet since, just observing and listening to the conversation finally decided to say something.
“What about me, Andy?” He questioned as he sat up and leaned forward trying to get closer to me.
“We started as friends. We were good friends before we decided to date each other. Are you really going to throw all of that away too?” he asked and I laughed. Tsk tsk. What an idiot.
I turned my full attention to him, and my voice came out sharper than I intended. I didn't care though.
“You threw it all away the moment you decided to screw my supposed best friend. You made that choice, not me.” I said. With the way I stared at him, I could just as easily reach into his soul.
Peter’s previously calm demeanor turned into one of frustration, he could not keep up with his façade.
“What you keep talking about is not even that big of a deal,” he snarled.
“This whole mess was your fault. If only you had trusted me and if you weren't so nosy, this would not have happened. If you had just handed me my phone or just not picked up the call at all, none of this would be happening! You brought it upon yourself, don't you see?” He said and I let out a sound of disbelief, my mouth opened in shock.
I guess I just did not realize how stupid he was. I cannot believe I actually dated this guy.
I could not help but be amazed by his words. I stared at him as I was dumbfounded. Did this fucker really just say that? Did I hear him correctly? He really had the nerve to come here and spill rubbish trying to make it seem like he did nothing wrong. Peak manipulation.
Before I could say anything or even think of a reply, Bree got up from where she was sitting. I could feel her anger from where I was, Bree never got this angry, but when she did, it never ended up being good.
“Can you even hear yourself right now?” Bree barked, her voice full of disbelief and anger. “You sound so pathetic it’s almost embarrassing.”
Peter started to say something but Bree didn’t let him. She raised her hand up and pointed at him while glaring daggers at both of them.
“I can’t take this anymore,” she said, turning to me as she ran her hands through her hair in frustration.
“I’m done with this whole thing.” She said, looking at me and I nodded.
“I can’t bear a minute more of these two idiots.” She let out a deep sigh as she narrowed her eyes at both of them.
“Well, I guess we need to send them away then” I said nonchalantly and she hummed in response.
“What?!” Rosalie said as she narrowed her eyes at me.
“You heard me,” I said.
“You wouldn't dare,” she said and I laughed. There she is.
The real Rosalie.
“Adorable” I said and she huffed.
“Come on now, you are not really going to-” Peter started to say but Bree gracefully cut him off.
“Get out. Both of you.” she ordered.
Rosalie’s mouth dropped open in shock.
“Bree, we’re just trying to-“
“Out,” Bree repeated firmly, her voice sharp as a blade.
“And listen to me carefully, if you ever see me or Andy either together or separately, don’t you think or even dare to approach us or try to talk to us because I promise you that you would regret it.” she warned, her words sounding like she was going to go through with it.
Peter’s ego was bruised and the expression on his face morphed into one of anger. He looked like he was about to talk but the look Bree shot him had him swallowing his words.
“And I swear to God, you both should be embarrassed. I mean look at yourselves,” Bree spoke up again, her voice filled with irritation.
“This little performance of yours? Pathetic. Greedy things” she said and I chuckled.
Rosalie shot me a look. I raised a brow in response.
She was red with embarrassment.
They didn’t say anything in response. The room was silent as they shot each other a look, it was clearly obvious that their plans had failed.
They slowly got up from where they were seated, their plans ruined and their egos bruised. Without another word, they headed toward the door. Rosalie’s fake smile had slipped entirely now, replaced by a cold glare.
Bree followed them to the entrance, swinging the door open with dramatic flair.
“Have a good day. Or not. I don't care.” Bree said in a fake sweet tone and gave them a bright smile.
Immediately they walked out of the house, Bree shut the door behind and took a deep breath as she leaned her head against the door.
“Good riddance,” she said as she rubbed her head.
“God, I could not bear having them in my presence, they were such a waste of time.“ she said.
I let out a small laugh at her expense. “You handled that perfectly.”
Bree grinned, her eyes still gleaming with the adrenaline of confrontation.
“What can I say? I'm just that amazing.” she bragged.
Bree finally walked closer to me and we both laughed. It felt good to finally be rid of both of them even if I knew at the bottom of my mind that they would be back. Never in a million years would Rosalie actually let something like this go. But I couldn't care less. What was the worst she could do?
“Popcorn?” Bree asked, raising a brow.
“Absolutely,” I replied with a grin.
Some things- like good friends and a little bit of chaos- never change. And I was perfectly okay with that.
