13. Movie Night
“Leave me alone Hades.” I glared at him from my tub. “Why didn’t you come when I summoned you twice.” He paused and continued. “Is it because you were in the bathtub?” I stared at him and answered remembering word for word what he had texted me “I don’t want to talk to you. You are not what I need or thought you were. Sound familiar?” He looked confused. “You texted me that hours ago and I don’t particular want to inconvenience you since you told me to leave you alone.” Hades glared. “I never said that.” I snorted and looked away.
“Persephone Darling, I never texted you.” I stood from the tub my body completely bare for Hades to look at. I didn’t care as I walked past him. I felt his eyes devouring me. I grabbed my phone from the counter and handed it to him. “See for yourself Liar.” I hissed and walked into my closet grabbing a robe. “Persephone Darling, I never texted you." He then pulled his phone and showed me that he didn’t have those words that he had written. Now I was more confused. “You have one minute to explain.”
“I didn’t have my phone with me today. I was with Charon and left it in our room. I didn’t think I would need it.” I raised my eyebrow. “Well then, how did I get those texts if it wasn’t you?” He answered. “Someone used my phone and deleted it on my end so I wouldn’t know.” It was true I didn’t know much about technology. “They can do that?” He nodded. I didn’t know anything about the world. I felt stupid. Hades had no reason to say those things. The way he had been acting and both Hecate and Charon had made it clear what Hades had thought. “Do you believe me?” I stared at him.
I nodded slowly. He gave me a smile. “I still don’t know why someone would do that?” I said quietly. His face twisted. “The better question is who was in our room.” There it was again, our room. He really did plan for me to be part of his immortal life, but I didn’t get why? I didn’t understand who would send that message. There were so many questions about everything, and I felt like a child, despite my age. I only knew one person who didn’t like me and that was Mithe, but she worked for Hades.
There was no way she would go into his room. That would be a violation and as much as she didn’t seem to like me, I knew she liked her King. Nymphs under any god or goddess they served, were obedient. I had never heard of one who wasn’t. “Please come with me.” Hades said looking at me with hope in his eyes. “Hades, my mother.” He smiled. “She won’t be back for a while; my brother is furious and will not be seeing her.” I looked at him “Was it over Athena’s temple?” He looked at me. “You know about that?” I nodded.
“When I was out with Hecate today, we saw it on the news, do you know what is going on? I mean when you came here with Zues did it pertain to this.” He nodded and said “Persephone I don’t want you to worry about it. My brothers and I have it under control. Stuff like this happens every so often. Zues flies off the handle, but it always calms down, Mortals can’t really do anything to strike at us.” “Hecate said the same thing, I am surprised she didn’t talk to you about it.” His face seemed to sour. “Yes, well she should have told me many things, most importantly about you being upset. I will have to speak to her about that.” I couldn’t help but give him a small smile. “I am glad she didn’t tell you. It means she respected my privacy. And besides you can’t really do anything to her.” “That is where you are wrong my little goddess. Hecate may be a titan, but she lives in my kingdom, so I do have some say over her.”
“So do you wish to come home with me.” I shook my head. “No, I don’t. I want to stay here.” I said firmly. He frowned. “Darling Persephone, we have a deal, and you know that can’t be broken.” I shrugged. “If you want my company, you will stay here with me this evening.” I crossed my arms. I have gone to the underworld now twice. He had only been on my mother's estate once and not for very long. “What are we going to do at Demeter's estate? There is nothing here. We could go out again. You had fun being amounts the mortals.” I didn’t respond. I just stared him down. I didn’t want to go anywhere. I had been out all day with the mortals, and I didn’t want to be around them right now.
Mostly because of what some of them had done to a goddess temple. I knew not all of them hated us, but I just wanted to stay clear at least for tonight. “You may stay here if you want to spend time with me. Our deal was for you to have my company, not to go wherever you wished. So, I am telling you, we are staying here tonight.” Hades smirked. “Clear authoritative, spoken like a queen.” I felt my face go pale. There it was again. The word Queen. Did he want me to be that for him, he hardly knew me. Hades was next to me in a second. Caressing my face he said, “What is wrong, Persephone Darling?”
I didn’t want to talk about this yet. I didn’t want to know. I couldn’t allow that conversation to come about. Not now when I felt like my world had been so small. I needed more time to have this conversation. I let him caress me a little longer. “We can’t leave my room; the nymphs will see you and my mother will know.” Hades smiled wickedly. “Then we will lay on your bed, and I am sure we can find something to entertain ourselves in your room.” I blushed. “Good we can watch a movie then.” He raised his eyebrow.
“My mother lets me watch some, documentaries about places and beings but they are interesting I think.” Hades' eyes grew dark. “If we are watching a movie, we are not watching a documentary about whatever Demeter deems appropriate.” I glared at him. “Well, there is nothing else to watch in this estate.” I snapped. Hades vanished suddenly. Where had he gone? I shrugged. I was still standing there in my robe I put on after my bath. I decided it was best to dress myself.
I slid on some comfy silk shorts and a loose-fitting silk top. If Hades had wanted to leave and not watch a documentary with me. His loss. I was going to watch one by myself. I left my room to find them in the media room. I scanned them hoping to find something when I spotted one about Prometheus. My mother hated this one, but I was permitted to watch it, so I grabbed it. I liked how he had helped the mortals and granted them fire. Though his punishment seemed extreme for it. I shuddered thinking that the Olympian responsible had been in my mother's library just days ago.
I stopped for several snacks, popcorn, and three sparkling juices. I really was addicted to these things. When I entered my room, Hades was there lounging on my bed. “What are you doing here?” I snapped at him. He held up a movie case. “You don’t tell me where you are going or what you are doing, or even if you are coming back and you expect I want to still spend the evening with you?” He smirked. “What is so amusing?” I glared as I stared him down. “You are, no, one talks to me like that. Well not without consensuses that is.” “Bite me.”
He smiled wickedly. “You think you are ready for that my little goddess?” My body flushed. My stomach tightened at his words, my thighs squeezed together, and my nipples hardened beneath my top. None of these things seemed to go unnoticed by Hades. His wicked smile was across his face. “Shut up.” I said walking over to the bed flipping my hair pretending like nothing happened. I don’t know why I felt so stubborn with him. I don’t know what he brought out in me, but it was an arrogance I had never felt. Sitting down on my bed with Hades looking so out of place in my white room. “So, what is the movie?” He held up “Silence of the Lambs.” I raised my eyebrows. I had never heard of it.
