39. Weapons
I stood there with Hecate. “You need to be able to use weapons Persephone.” She said. “I don’t understand why though?” I responded. “Well for one, all the gods know how to fight with weapons.” I didn’t think she was correct. “My mother can’t, I have never seen here wield a weapon.” She shot me a look.
“She uses a double age axe, Persephone, and trust me she can wield it.” My mouth fell open at her words. There was no way. “Well, what about Hades what weapon does he use, or you for that matter.” Hecate responded to my question “Hades has several weapons but mostly he is known for a spear as for me I use magic, obviously.” I couldn’t help but cut in on that comment.
“Hecate that isn’t a weapon well a physical one at least.” She smiled at my response. “I can use all weapons if I had to pick a physical one, it would be a dagger. But necromancy to raise legions is much more deadly than a freaking dagger.” I was shocked that she had done that. “Alright, fine I will try the weapons. But which one do I start with?”
She smiled at me. “Well, we will start with a sword first. We need to see what you gravitate toward or have a natural ability toward. Zues favors a shield surprisingly. I think it is because he can throw his bolts of lightning behind it while he blocks blows.” I nodded I picked up the sword that Hecate summoned.
I was horrible when I began swinging it. At one point I lost my footing and completely fell over losing my balance. “Okay so definitely not a sword, try the shield next. I am going to swing but I won’t hurt you okay.” She said, and I nodded. I did try that next but like the sword I lost my balance. “Not a shield either.” When I tried the bow, it was horrible. I failed so bad and began to feel embarrassed at how horrible I was.
The next one was only slightly better it was a small dagger. “I can’t do the spear; Hecate please don’t make me try.” I said as she held up the spear. “yeah you are probably right.” she said. “Hecate I can’t do any of these weapons,” Hecate frowned, I think she understood that I was probably right.
“Hades and I don’t think we will actually be fighting so I don’t think this is even needed.” I said. “Yeah but all of us goddess and gods can wield something. We can at least do it even if we don’t ever use them.” I shrugged. “I can use the dagger kind of, or I don’t know.” I then made a joke “I am very good at hurting myself accidently with hair pains when I put them on.” She stared at me then smiled. She opened her hand and then handed me the most delicate knife, it was thin and sharp, but it was extremely light.
“Throw it.” She said, and I did and to my surprise it landed in the very center of the target she had set up for when I tried the bow. Then she had another weapon appear it was another sword, but it was much thinner. I swung it and to my surprise I didn’t fall. “Brilliant, it is called a rapier, that is the type of sword it is. You just needed something fragile apparently.” Hecate said.
I nodded likening how light it was. “I think you will need to practice with it a lot. Maybe Hades is the better person to teach you to use it because he is probably the best with weapons and with using such a light weapon he could help you know how to maneuver to be successful against something like a long sword or something.”
I nodded, “so should I take this back to the palace with me?” I asked holding the weapon. “Um yeah, but knowing Hades he will have one specifically made for you. You do know he loves spoiling you.” I blushed deeply when she said that. “Oh I do know that, you know he made an art studio for me.” Hecate raised her brow.
“Well he made an art studio but when I found out his old lovers made it I was upset so he tore it up, and now he is having it redone.” Hecate started laughing hard. “He is, is he?” I nodded. “Of course, he is such a fucking simp. He really will do anything to make happy. It is kind of cute to watch.” I couldn’t help but smile thinking about that.
“Why don’t you head back to the palace, I know you wanted to get in some meetings with the souls, well you and your husband wanted to.” Hecate said and I nodded to her giving her a hug before I vanished away and ended up in the palace. Hades was waiting for me. “Is that your weapon?” I nodded him handing him my rapier.
“It is rather delicate.” He said. “Yeah Hecate said that you should train me with it, since it is so light compared to other weapons.” I said and Hades made a face. “I can try darling, but there is no way this weapon is ever going to be able to match up to something like a long sword or spear.” I couldn’t help but laugh at that. “So why did I have to spend the whole morning then with weapons, Hecate and I could have been just casually hanging out then.” I commented.
“Are you still cool doing the meeting with the souls in the city?” I asked and Hades nodded. “I am interested to see how this goes, I have always sat the throne to do it, but we can try what you did while we fought.” I was excited to show Hades what I had been up to and how I chose to rule while we had been in our disagreement.
“What do I do with this thing then?” I held up the sword. “Here” He said taking it and then it vanished. “Where did it go?” I asked. “Armory.” “I didn’t know we had one of those.” “We do” I stared at him. Then Hades said “I will show you it later come on, if you don’t want to meet the souls on the throne we should go now then.”
