27. One Hour
Hades stood up from his chair. “I think we have had a long day, well you did at least we should get some sleep. Things are moving fast, and you should rest. We are going to make you officially a queen the day after tomorrow.” He paused and looked serious but there was hunger behind his eyes as he said, “More importantly my wife.” I blushed and he offered me his hands. “Should we get you into bed.” I looked at him taking his hand and he pulled me up. My silk robe still fastened to my body.
“I am not tired.” I said softly and a Hades smiled wickedly. “What would you like to do then darling Persephone.” I loved that he called me that. It made me feel like the most precious to him, above his kingdom, above his duties, and it warmed me from the inside of my being to my very core. Nothing had ever felt so right as it did when I was in the presence of the God of the Dead.
“I can think of a few thinks.” I batted my eyelashes at him. I didn’t know if I was making a fool of myself talking to him like this. But I never felt awkward with Hades. So, I guessed I was not being foolish. Hades pulled me to him. His large rough hands slid into my robe, and I felt the warmth of him on my pale flesh. He had to nearly bend down to kiss me. There was a significate height difference between the two of us. His lips were gentle as he kissed my lips. But the heat between us was cataclysmic and I felt all the blood in my body pumping hard.
The kiss became heated. His hands fisting in my hair pulling my scalp as he moved my head back so he could get at my neck. Licking the front of it all the way to my chin and then he kissed me again. I wanted this forever, if it could always be like this. I didn’t want to worry about the war raging amongst the humans. I didn’t want to think about ruling this place with him. All I wanted was to have us devour one another until the universe ended and every soul and God vanished. His rough kiss was cut short when he pulled away, he said. “I wish we already married. Since you first came here, I wanted you to be mine.”
I smiled peering up looking at him. Why did we have to wait for the day after tomorrow? I thought. Both of us had lost a decade and even though that was nothing to us, as we were immortal, it still felt long for him. Why should he have to wait another second to have what he wanted. I had come to find out Hades rarely got what he desired. I wanted to give him that. I wanted to make his long life easier. He deserved happiness as did I.
I had spent many years, kept in a bubble, until Hades came into my life. I had fallen for him hard and fast. I didn’t know exactly when I fell but from the moment, I met him I knew he was not how everyone perceived him. He was a God who did not lie. Sure, he kept things to himself, but he owned it telling me he would tell me in time. As I looked into his charcoal eyes I could feel his longing. “Why must we wait? Call up Hecate and bring her here.” His hands slid to my waist grabbing them firmly.
“You are serious?” He asked and I nodded. “We need two Gods present to establish the wedding to make it official.” He said looking a little sad. I bit my lip. Then said. “Is Dionysios and Hermes here. You say they like to raid you stash of wine.” He was silent a long time. “Dionysios is in the Cellar, but Hermes is not here.” I smiled. “That is easy to remedy he comes when summoned, it is his job. You get Hermes and I will drag the God of wine to the throne room, just bring Hermes and Hecate.” I paused. “And Charon he will want to be here.” He nodded and spoke. “Be in the throne room in an hour.” and I nodded. He ran to the closet throwing on one of his beautiful black suits.
Once he left, I went to the closet. I would wear the dress I knew was in there. My wedding gown, Hecate had given it to me, just last night. She had created it. It was not a white dress at all, but something designed for a queen of the underworld, and I had yet to see it completely done. I found the bag it was in and pulled it out. I would need help getting ready. I only had an hour, and I knew exactly where to go. I grabbed the bag and the black strappy heals I planned to wear. Rushing out of the room I went to Lola’s room.
I banged on the door, and she opened it. She looked at me in my robe, my light red hair still wet. She looked at the bag next and the shoes. “How long do we have?” She asked. Like she already knew what was going on. “I have to get Dionysios from the cellar and Hades said an hour but that was ten minutes ago so 50 minuets.” She smiled. I liked how I didn’t even have to tell her we were having the wedding so soon. As if she expected that Hades nor myself would have waited on the planned time.
“Well get in here.” I walked in and Lola helped me with the dress, my hair and makeup. She worked fast and I knew I would still have time to get to the god of wine. “Okay look in the mirror.” Lola said and I did. I looked entirely different. I looked like a real goddess, not some child like my mother wanted to keep me as forever. Everything looked so perfect, I couldn’t even believe my reflection in the mirror.
My dress was sculpted to my body. The black lace ran down my arms and the see through fabric that it was attached to gave the illusion that the black lace flowers where on my skin. The floral lace covered my arms and ran down the sides of my back. The see through material left my back bare except for black buttons running along my spine. Until it reached the fabric right above my bottom.
The front dipped low and gave off cleavage but it was simple and elegant. I had a long train trailing behind me. My light red hair was up in a twisted bun hanging low on the back of my head. A few pieces of hair left out to frame my face. Around my eyes had a light smoky feel making my blue eyes pop and my lips were left their soft pink. I looked so different. Hecate had not given me a veil and I was thankful for that. I wanted Hades to look at me. “Okay I got to get to the cellar, go to the throne room, I want you there Lola.”
She smiled brightly and I wrapped her in a hug. “Thank you so much.” I whispered to her and in an instant, I transported myself to Hade's cellar. I was glad I had figured out how to do that. It was much faster then walking everywhere. I looked around and found someone slumped to the floor drinking straight from a bottle. “Dionysios.” I said and he turned his face to me. He had an angular nose and a crease in his clean shaved chin. He had on slacks and a purple button up that was not tucked in. He raised his brow.
“You must be Persephone.” His voice was smooth. He tossed his brown curls back. “What do you need little goddess?” He seemed so put together, but he was drinking. Then again, he wouldn’t become drunk from wine, but from Nectar. “Would you come with me to the throne room.” He looked over my body in my dress, smirking he said, “couldn’t wait to be the wife of Death, could you?” I nodded. As he stood, he said. “Hades is lucky to have such a beautiful wife. No wonder Demeter kept you from all of us, we would have fought over you.”
Weird thing for him to say I thought. “You know if you ever want to take a lover, I would be more than happy to help you with that.” My face pinched. “Don’t look so horrified little goddess. Lots of the gods take lovers. Zues has had thousands, why do you think there are so many demigods.” I replied back with a bite in my voice. “I have no desire to take lovers.” He raised his eyebrow and then said. “Just as well, you are not really my type. I prefer the monsters to fuck anyways.” I didn’t know what that meant but at the moment I had no desire to find out.
“So can we go now please.” I said getting irritated by this conversation. “Why should I come with you, I know you only want me there as a witness, what is in it for me?” I was starting to get mad. I shot a thorn from my hand, so it jutted near his throat. “How about if you do not come and be one of the witnesses, I will make sure in the future you have no more of Hades wine.” He laughed. “You couldn’t stop me if you wanted little goddess.” Maybe that was true.
I shot a thorn out and busted one of the bottles. “I may not be able to force you, but Hades would let me break every bottle in here if it meant punishing you for not coming with me now, and I will do it.” I said sternly. To make it clear I broke another bottle of wine. “Fine, just stop, this is the best reserve of wine.” I nodded and then Dionysios made us disappear and repairer by the doors of the throne room. Charon was standing there next to me. “Dionysios, go stand next to Hermes, he is by the throne.” He nodded and ran. Charon smiled at me. This was it. I was going to marry the God of the Dead.
