Chapter 39
JACK~~~~
"W-what?" I asked as I took a cautious step back. With Ethan outside, I knew for sure that I couldn't run away or I'd be scurrying like a rat out of here. Even if Ethan wasn't, I've seen Jimmy's speed. I know I won't be a match for him if he decides to give chase. I have no choice but to talk it out.
"I just told you," he said taking a step forward to complement my step backwards. "It's demon blood."
"Hey man, I might not be a part of this world yet but even I know that demons are bad news to werewolves," I said carefully. "Where the fuck did you get demon blood?"
"Man? When did I become your man?" he asked sternly, taking another threatening step forward. "How dare you speak to me so informally?" His eyes glowed at that instant. "Get on your knees and apologize. Bow three times with enough force that your head at least makes a crack on the floor."
"This fucking bastard!" Jay growled. "Your head would split open before you do the third bow!"
"S-shut up," I stuttered. "He seems ready to kill us right now. Let's focus all of your energy on my head right now and hope it would work."
"Consulting your wolf first?" he growled and Jay whimpered. "This kid. Have you been using the wolf-taming techniques I taught you?"
From his glare, I knew I was fucked if I told a lie. "N-no, Alpha, but there's a very good reason for it," I argued as I got on my knees. "I think Jay is still too young for those techniques. They might kill him."
"Do you dare to defy my order?" he asked still standing behind the table and not moving an inch but my chest felt tight and I gasped for breath as it choked me slowly. Even Jay winced in pain and I could also feel him weakening. What the fuck is this power?! How can he do this much with just words?!
"Stop using that goddamn authority right this instant!" Ethan yelled as he banged on the door. "That kid is a fledgling and you of all people should know that everyone around a certain radius can feel it! You are fucking killing me here!"
"Damn it, you're so noisy," he sighed and the pain was gone. I gasped for air and took as many deep breaths as I could before steadying my pounding heartbeat. Jay seems to be in better condition than me but not great either. I looked up to find his gaze still fixed on me. A condescending look like I was nothing but trash. "Oi, if you're done playing then bow."
I gritted my teeth as I cursed in as many languages as I could think of. I swore to myself that I would fucking kill his bastard.
"Now," I said to Jay and he immediately got to work. I felt my insides warm-up as power surged through my body, focusing most of it on the head. Since I wasn't good enough yet, Jay manipulates the energy output instead of me.
I hit my head on the ground as hard as I can of the first bow and I felt a little vibration on the floor even though the rebound was just as bad.
"Remember that if I don't see a crack at the third try, you would have to do it all over again," he warned. This bastard old fuck. I'm gonna fucking kill Royce wherever I see him for ever making me see this Devil in human flesh!
I bowed the same way for the second time and my head started bleeding. Even with Jay's power, I could feel the stinging headache as it hit the back of my skull hard and I was feeling very dizzy. It made me wonder if my skull was shattered. I wouldn't forgive him if it was.
"I'll kill you if you pass out," he ordered. A relaxed yet firm voice, one that doesn't recognize life as sacred. He would really do it.
The third bow was my hardest. I ignored the pain and dizziness and slammed my head on the ground as hard as I could, hoping with everything I had that I caused a crack. When I heard a cracking sound and the pain that followed after it, I was convinced that my skull had shattered. No human skull can take that much. The only relief I had was the small crack I saw on the floor. I would have suffered an even worse fate if it hadn't.
"If you're done there then stand up. We still have a lot to discuss," he said standing there with no regard for my physical condition.
I stood from my bowing position in my half-dead condition and followed him back to the table. He smiled as the blood trickled down my forehead.
"Now you look like a werewolf," he smiled. "You better wipe that pained look off your face or I'll give you more pain."
I quickly straightened up my posture and corrected my expression regardless of the pain I was feeling.
"About the goblet on the table," he said. "Drink it up."
"I'm sorry, Alpha," I said cautiously. Careful not to annoy him but enough to make him know I was serious. "I cannot accept this demon blood for two reasons."
"They are?"
"First, I don't know the effects of that blood or the reason why you are giving it to me, and secondly, I know for sure that demons are bad news everywhere."
"You seem to be quite smart," he said. "But you forget that I'm not giving you a choice, it's an order."
"Then I would rather die than become something I can't control, sir," I replied firmly.
He scoffed. "You also can't die without my permission. I own your body and soul, your life and death, and the very essence of your being."
This crazy geezer! He drives a hard bargain. It seems like I won't be getting out of this easily. It would be better to make a compromise at this point.
"At least tell me what it would do to me," I said. "Tell me what the effects are and why I have to take them. Please, Alpha."
"Hmmm, it seems like you've learnt a little bit about manners," he said. "Well since you want to, I guess I'll have to at least do that much."
"Thank you, Alpha."
"Demon blood is harmful to whoever takes it as it contains the madness and grudges contained by demons. Ingesting even a tiny bit of their blood could drive you crazy but in return, give you sufficient power. Enough power to paint the world red," he explained. I wonder where he was going with this. I already knew all of these from the movies I watched. "But it is different for a Jarred. Even though I was the one who discovered it, I know for sure that werewolves with the Jarred blood in them are unaffected by its madness. As long as you can control it with the help of your wolf, you can absorb the power and ignore the side effects. I used to be the only one who can take this but since I sired you, I think you have a chance."
"What if I and my wolf can't handle it?" I asked.
"Any wolf with the Jarred blood is fundamentally strong enough to handle that much," he replied. "As long as they don't give up, they can. That's why I taught you wolf-taming techniques. If you command your wolf too, he would never defy you. But if your woof has a choice, it could give up when it gets too hard and then you would lose. This mostly depends on your wolf and not you. Your wolf is stronger than you."
"You heard that, right?" I asked Jay. "It seems we can't get out of drinking it. This is the best deal we can get. At least we know how to handle it now. It would all depend on you."
"I won't leave you halfway even if it kills me," Jay said proudly. "Besides if you go mad then I go mad too so I wouldn't do that."
"Are you confident?"
"One hundred percent. Just drink the damn thing and let's get started."
"If you are done consulting with your wolf then spread energy around your body and drink up," Jimmy said still staring down at us.
I did as instructed and let the energy spread around me. "Here goes nothing," I said and gulped down the fluid ignoring the foul taste.
"Good," he smiled. "Go to hell."
My lungs burned as the fluid seared through my intestines and burned my insides. I yelled in agony as it felt like I was being burned by fire and my world slowly faded to black.
"I-I'm gonna die," I managed to say before everything turned to black.
